Welcome to Travel Tuesday! Sedona is one of my favorite hiking destinations in general, but I think I’ve found one of my favorite trails ever in the West Fork Trail. <3!
Distance: 7.2 miles (out + back) Elevation: 820 ft Difficulty: Easy Duration: ~3 hours Trailhead Address: 34°59’26.5″N 111°44’34.6″W
Parking: Lot available ($10 pass required*)
*The $10 pass can be used to get you into a few other places, including Allen’s Bend/Grasshopper Point + Red Rock Crossing Trail!
The West Fork of Oak Creek Trail is located in the “Call of the Canyon” recreation area and is one of the most popular hikes in the Coconino National Forest (for good reason!).
This is absolutely perfect for summer as it’s nice and cool and often shaded by the surrounding trees + canyon walls.
The trail itself is pretty easy! There are about 13 different stream crossings during this hike (can be done over stepping stones and logs, but be careful as it may be slippery) though!
There is an option to continue into the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness! The entire stretch is ~14 miles and requires wading + boulder-hopping, and likely some swimming as well (depending on what season it is). If you want to do this, be prepared for an overnight trip!
I’d love to hike this trail in every season (and to also do the extended hike someday! *-*)!
This hike is busiest in the summer and on weekends. Dogs are allowed as long as they’re leashed!
Hopefully we’ll get to wade/explore more next time!
Looks like a beautiful trail. Love when there is lots of water. I backpacked in Sedona and found it just so beautiful. Like Canyonlands or Zion but easier to get to. And such a spiritual place.
You always find such gorgeous trails! I looove the way the light shines though the leaves on those trees. It looks like such a good mix of keeping cool in the shade and seeing some cool scenery and rock faces. Josy A recently posted…Snowshoeing on Vancouver’s Local Mountains

I haven’t been to this part of the states yet, but from your photos it looks like there are some great hiking trails to hit up while you’re there! Thanks for the great tips!
There are a tonnn over there! *-* I feel like I could spend ages in Colorado/Utah/Arizona and still not explore it all! Farrah recently posted…How To Prepare For a Cross Country Road Trip
