Visiting the Tucson Botanical Garden

Welcome to Travel Tuesday! I’m still (virtually) in Arizona but this time, not on a hike! What whatttt. We’re headed to the Tucson Botanical Garden today! (To clarify, this is to recap a trip from the summer of 2019.)

Admissions: $15 (adults), $13 (students, seniors 62+, military), $8 (children 4-17), free for members/children <4

I was visiting a friend in Tucson while she was finishing up residency so we got to explore this on one of her days off! :]

The Tucson Botanical Garden covers 5.5 acres and is mostly outdoors with the exception of the Butterfly Magic exhibit. Make sure you bring sunscreen, water, a hat, and potentially also bug repellent!

There are docent-led garden tours, an edible garden tour, and two different audio tours available too!

They also offer a variety of community classes, including garden meditation, hatha yoga, indoor vegetable gardening, Mexican Panaderia classics, learning about insects/birds…there’s something for everyone!

They have a cafe with lots of tasty-lookin’ foods! Their menu uses local, sustainable ingredients (sourced from the garden when possible) and are homemade from scratch! (We had room for some pretty delicious popsicles despite being full…the dessert stomach is real.)

Things to note:

  • No smoking allowed (including e-cigarettes).
  • Do NOT pick or collect any plants/plant material.
  • Leashed dogs = allowed between June-September. ($3 for day admission or full-year membership for $20! There are dog bowls and clean-up stations scattered throughout the garden.)
  • Some wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the gift shop.

Aren’t these reusable bags adorable!? <3

    Hi Farrah,
have you always taken pics and “notes” about your trips in the past? (or is some of this info recently researched/updated) about the sites? Do you usually just take pics on the phone or use a DSLR of some sort?

    1. Hello! I usually take pictures and over the past 5-ish+ years, I’ve taken notes here and there — they tend to be up to date at the time that I write the post (but I do have a tendency to write and schedule posts farrr into the future, haha). Most of my photos are taken on my phone! I did get a DSLR but am still learning to use it. :D.. One of my goals = learning astrophotography!

  4. I always try to visit a botanical garden when I visit a new area because it shows the flora and ecosystem of an area. This one is lovely. The plants and the sculptures are beautiful. I like that you can bring your dog too. Mine would love to sniff everywhere there!

    1. I’m sad that I didn’t do that before, but that’s (one of the reasons) why I love it too! :D Hoping to go to more in the future!
