I’ve been keeping a journal pretty much for the last 17 years. It started in regular notebooks and migrated to online journals (this used to be one before I switched to blogging!), and I’ve been using planners for about that much time as well.
Using A Bullet Journal For Productivity
A friend once told me that one of days that I deemed “unproductive” was more than he accomplished in an entire year. Not gonna lie–I didn’t think that was true, but I was kinda flattered.
I’m super type A when it comes to planning things, making lists, being productive/efficient, and all that good stuff. It’s the only world I’ve ever known, and also probably how I manage to get so much stuff done in a day. I’m all about making to-do lists and scheduling out most (if not all) parts of my day.
I started bullet journaling halfway through the year, so I tacked it onto my workout journal that I’ve been keeping since 2009 (when I first started lifting!). (In case you’re wondering, I lost it for a couple years, hence why it still had so many blank pages.) This is how I’ve been using a bullet journal for productivity!
My weekly spreads consist of:
- Dailies
- Schedule (work/social/etc.)
- Exercise
- Studying/Practice Questions
- Mini To-Do (if time-sensitive/deadline approaching)
- Mini Calendar
- Sleep Tracker
- My daily goal is ~5 hours.
- Habit Tracker
- I use this to track things I’m trying to do daily or every few days, for instance…
- Studying
- Exercise
- Skin care
- Blogging (e.g. social media shares, commenting)
- SPF
- …I really need to incorporate a water tracker too.
- I use this to track things I’m trying to do daily or every few days, for instance…
- Blog Posts
- Drafts I’m working on for the week
- Posts scheduled for the week
- Pending sponsored posts
- Weekly To Do List
- “Brain Dump” (things I learned/studied)
This is an example of my workout spread–it was while I was doing the Gixo Fit Approach challenge, so there wasn’t any lifting depicted in here. :O
What I really like about bullet journaling is that you can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. You can incorporate as many elements as you want, or go with more of a minimalist approach. Secretly, I’d love for mine to be perfect, but I’ve accepted that that’s just not possible, so I just roll with it when I mess something up.
Target’s $1 section has all kinds of fun knick-knacks for bullet journal stuff (e.g. post-its, stickers, washi tape). I’ve also raided dollar stores, Daiso, and Jo Ann’s for supplies as well.Since I’m likely going to start up running again once I fix my self/curbside-diagnosed patellofemoral syndrome vs. plica syndrome, I’m probably going to need to start a tracker on that as well for the upcoming year! Planning tends to fill me with a lot of joy though, so it should be fun to design! :P
- Do you use a planner?
- Have you ever tried bullet journaling?

Yay, thanks for linking up with us! I really love the idea of a bullet journal and seeing how other people decorate and use theirs. I’m going to use one for next year, but more for reading/entertainment purposes. I still have the Happy Planner for 2018 that will be good for a lot of other things. My planner this year just got overloaded, so I think spreading it across a few different planners will be nice. I mean, not for everyone I’m sure, but it works for me. LOL I tend to keep track of what I eat in mine; I should really do a water tracker!

Thanks for putting together the linkup! :D I love seeing how people decorate their bullet journals too–it always makes me want to be more creative, but life usually gets in the way of that, haha. I’m still trying to figure out what works for me!

Yay! I hope you like it! I’m still tweaking it every few weeks–I love that it’s so customizable! :P
This post brings about my love for my agenda book. I have had one ever since high school. Even though I can write all my thoughts/day planning/ideas/make lists in google documents or calendar I always find myself going back to using my agenda book :) It makes me feel more productive.
Awesome post!
Agreed! They definitely help me to feel more productive + stay organized!!

I have a planner and a bullet journal–I tend to use the planner more for meetings, appointments, to-dos, and the bullet journal more for keeping track of things I actually want to remember in the long-term. Now that the baby has gotten some gifts, I was just thinking of starting a page to keep track of who gave what, because I know that’s something I want to remember! (“Your Aunt Rebekah/Great-Grandma/Uncle Manny gave you this!” and all that sort of thing)

When I started my bullet journal, I was kinda trying to figure out whether or not I wanted to do a planner or a bullet journal, but decided to combine them to hopefully-lessen the complications.
That’s a great idea! I need to start a page for gift ideas for my friends/family! :P

I would love to be this organized, but I’m just not. I am trying though ….
I definitely have days/weeks where I fall off the organization train! It’s a work in progress!

I never thought about tracking my water intake, or my exercise in my planner. But, it’s a great idea, to write down goals (I think). Thanks for the post.

Anytime! I fell off the wagon on the water tracking, but that’s definitely one that I need to work on!
Oh I love seeing how you lay out the week. I love the mini calendar too–such a good idea to have the month at a glance like that. I’d like to do more daily tracking as well, I probably could use it with water drinking and steps.

Thanks! I really need to work on the water one–I’m the worst with that!
This is so awesome! I love how you are using it! I have a bullet journal as well, and mostly just use it for monthly goals, and extra things that don’t fit in my planner very well like seasonal bucket lists, gratitude logs, etc. I love how organized you are with yours! I am hoping to get more organized again next year. I’ve had more downtime this year which has been great, but am feeling a little too busy and overloaded right now! XO – Alexandra

Thanks! :D I like the idea of seasonal bucket lists and I’ve been wanting to add in a gratitude log as well! :] I just started a new one since I finished off my old one and fingers are crossed that I’ll be able to stay organized! I feel ya on the overloaded-ness right now! x_x
The neatness of your journal is making my type a heart happy ???
I have a Filofax planner with a tonne of different sections that I love – but I’ve always wanted to try a bullet journal

Aww, thank you! I definitely have pages that aren’t anywhere as neat, but figured I’d showcase the ones that were a little more put together, haha. ;P
Having the option of different sections definitely makes me happy! :P!
