Hi everyone! What’s been going in your life? Pull up a chair and come catch up with life with me for the Ultimate Coffee Date!
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’d tell you that I’ve been super missing Hawai’i (check out my travel posts for recaps–more on their way soon!), so I was overjoyed to find a place close to me that has all kinds of smoothie bowls!!!
I tried a pitaya bowl for the first time. I’m not usually a fan of dragonfruit (I try it every time I’m in Hong Kong, so basically on/off since the age of 7)–or I guess “indifferent” would be a better term. I’ve always wanted to like it since it looks so cool and has an awesome name–I guess I just needed to have it in a smoothie bowl! :P
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’d tell you that…I got to see one of my closest friends/main study buddy throughout most of med school a couple weekends ago!! He is part of the HBLer’s + 1/Vagal Tones (more on the cast of characters in my life here), and we pranked our friends and each other all throughout med school.
Truth be told, I’ve been somewhat worried about his well-being because he’s doing his residency in General Surgery, which isn’t exactly known to have the friendliest of conditions.
We played catch-up on life and he had some stuff to work on, so he set me up with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on N64 and logged cases, stopping periodically to save me as I blundered my way through Hyrule. Then we went to chill at his friend’s apartment (he had a pool!) and had delicious sushi for dinner!
(In case you’re wondering, there were four people involved with this dinner, not just us two. But you better believe I probably could’ve finished most if not all of this on my own if not for financial restraint.)
I ended up crashing on his couch since I didn’t feel like driving home and I made us dumplings the next morning and stored the extras in his freezer because I’ve been concerned about him reverting back to his pizza days. I may or may not have binge-watched 6 episodes of Stranger Things in one sitting whilst fueled by snacks from Trader Joe’s. <3
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I got to go to Boyce Avenue‘s concert earlier this week!!! They were amaaaazing. <3
I discovered them about 8(?) years ago on youtube and never thought I’d get to see them live, but they happened to be playing 45 minutes from where I was working and the patient I’d been following ended up having to get a c-section in the early afternoon, so I actually got to go!!
I also discovered a new artist that I really like! Leroy Sanchez went right before Boyce Avenue and he has an incredible voice.
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I’ve been growing green onions in my kitchen! I got the idea from Linda the last time I went back to visit because we’re both rather interested in homesteading and learning to live at least somewhat more sustainable lifestyles (and just saving money in general).
She had this amazing organic basil all ready for me to take back to New Jersey with me, but…I neglected to bring it back, so I guess I won’t get to grow that after all. So sad. ;_;
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…we’re currently tied with the PGY2’s (second-year residents) in terms of how many times our class has collectively hung out this year (aka twice). We’re hoping to beat them by the end of the year, but our clashing schedules makes this pretty darn difficult! We’ll find a way though!

Sad to say that the last concert I actually paid for was Queens of the Stone Age back in 2014. The last concert I heard was Outkast, because they were performing for the Treasure Island music fest, when I was still living there of course.
Should I count my brother’s band? I feel like its cheating though, haha.

There there. :o Before this one, the last time I went to one was in November of 2012, I think, haha. I went with my neighbor to see Steel Panther (ah, glam metal) in Baltimore.
I feel like you should be able to count that! :P
How’s your job + Union City treating you?
I first had acai and Pitaya bowls in Hawaii as well and I was immediately hooked! I try to make them myself but they are so much better when someone does it for you! No place quite like Hawaii. Thanks for joining for coffee today

haha, I kinda agree–I can technically make my own, but sometimes it’s hard to get that perfect consistency! I love it there so much! <3
I failed at growing basil – maybe I should try green onions! Thanks for linking up!

Thanks! I need to find more plants to grow! :D
I haven’t been to Hawaii since my honeymoon and I totally wasn’t into smoothies then. I would love to go back to eat something that looks like that! Yum!

I hope you get to sometime! <3
I think I’ve had dragon fruit once, out somewhere. I love the color of that smoothie bowl though! And that sushi boat looks amazing!

It was so pretty–I figured I’d give it another chance and I’m really glad I did! :P
Oh wow what a sushi boat!!!! It’s amazing how they make it look so pretty!
I plan to start watching Strangers Things next! Umm the last concert I went too was Trace Adkins I think or maybe it was Toby Keith. I should remember it was this Summer! Have a great weekend Farrah!

Forreals! <3 I adore sushi, haha.
Stranger Things is such a good series! I have trouble remembering fairly recent stuff too these days–there's just so much going on! :O
I hope you have a good weekend too! :]
Oh my the last concert I went to… It has been so long that I am not entirely sure. I believe it was probably Shinedown. I used to go to concerts all the time but as I have gotten older I don’t enjoy the crowds. I grow a garden each year! I love it! I grow peppers, cucumbers, green beans, radishes, carrots and strawberries. I have a very small garden but it keeps me very busy.

I can definitely relate! I don’t like being in crowds of lots of people, but had to make an exception for Boyce Avenue, hehehe. :]
That’s so awesome! I really want a garden someday, but currently not too possible since I live in an apartment in a city. (Someday… *-*)
I can so relate to the difficulty in getting your class together. When I was doing my Athletic Therapy in undergrad it was so hard to have everyone (even though there were only 15 of us) free of clinical duties, classes, jobs and team responsibilities all at the same time. Christmas break was pretty much the only time and I distinctly remember falling asleep at one of those social events because I was just so burnt out. I wish you well with your internship, it will be so worth it in the end!

haha, yeah! It’s kinda mind-boggling how hard it is to schedule mutually free times to hang out! (There are only 15 of us in our residency but we’re all only mutually free one day out of the year, and only because that’s scheduled as our retreat day, haha.) Somedayyyy, we’ll have free time again!!
I have not tried dragonfruit, but t does look cool! I have some aloe vera growing in my house right now. It’s a pretty easy plant to keep alive and it looks neat plus it serves a purpose!
Author
Ooo, aloe! I’m going to have to look into that! :D! Thank you!
I’ve never actually had dragonfruit before – or a pitaya bowl but both look pretty awesome!
We loveeed Stranger Things and can’t wait for the next season! Binge watching it is a must though… I think we finished it in two nights hahaha.

I had it when I was in Hong Kong about…15(?!) years ago but was somewhat indifferent about it at the time, but I think that indifference has finally changed! :P
hehehe, I definitely finished that series wayyy faster than I meant to! Can’t wait for season 2!
It sounds like things are going well! It’s always great to catch up with old friends. I haven’t been to a concert in awhile, but I would have been geeked out to have eye contact with one of my favorite artists! I’ve definitely got fangirl tendencies, LOL

Indeed it is! I was glad to see he was doing okay! :O
hahaha, me too! This is probably why I can’t ever meet my one and only celebrity crush! x_x
Looks like so much fun and that smoothie bowl… drooling!!

For reals! I want another one but trying to save money, hahaha. Oh the dilemmas in life!
Check out that sushi boat… I swear my husband could eat the whole thing by himself.
The last concert I went to was Rick Springfield last year.
Author
haha, I probably could’ve too if my wallet had been able to afford it! :P
