Ultimate Coffee Date: March 2024

Welcome to the third Ultimate Coffee Date of the year! I don’t have a whole ton in the way of updates this month, but sometimes no news is good news?  Let me know what’s been going on in your life! :]

Ultimate Coffee Date: March 2024

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d ask you if…you ever wonder about what life would be like if you’d chosen a different path, so to speak. I can’t imagine pursuing any other career than a family doctor, but I have so, so many interests/hobbies that sometimes often I wish I could take a break for a bit just to pursue those for a while + then come back to my regular job, haha.

To be fair, I know I’m very blessed to have a stable career with a fair amount of job security (everywhere is always, always hiring because no one wants to do primary care), but one can  dream…

Magnolia tree outside the hospital I sometimes work out of!

I got a really nice review from one of my patients the other day along the lines of:

“(Dr. F) is one of the best Primary Care doctors I have had at [____]. She is kind, compassionate and an authentic doctor. [____] is very fortunate to have her and I even luckier. Please take good care of her and don’t burn her out. [___] is very passionate about her profession and dedicated to her Oath. Please recognize her. Thank you.”

I have been feeling quite burned out lately, but this was super, super sweet and it really made my day. <3

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…last weekend was absolutely beautiful here! I was catching up with a friend over a hike/walk through Golden Gate Park and brought along a Tofu!

I shared an update with his rescue and they were so happy! :]

We hiked over 7 miles and after he overcame his initial nervousness with seeing more people than he’d ever seen in his entire life, I think he had the time of his life.

He was so tired when we got back home, haha. This photo took a lot of maneuvering to get since he was sleeping on top of my right arm.

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…there’s not much going on in my mini-book-review round-up this month. I’m in the middle of a lottt of books right now, none that I’ve actually finished, except for…

  • The Magic All Around, by Jennifer Moorman – Sometimes all you want on a cold dreary/rainy day is to read (in my case, listen) to a cozy witchy story on finding life again after loss + navigating grief. It’s centered around family relationships, searching for your own path, and finding love. If you’re on the market for a whimsical feel-good read set in a charming small town, this will be perfect for you!

It is soup weather lately! This coconut noodle soup from Burma 2 is amazingggg. <3

  1. I made a career change over 15 years ago so at this point I am set. No more dreaming or thinking about a different job. I do think about retirement. :-) And sometimes I do think about what my life would be if I had made better choices in high school and college. But I guess those choices led me to where I am not.

    1. hehe, I think about retirement too (mainly just…would like to do it early, lol — or work part-time)!

True true, I like to dream up possibilities but my voice of reason usually kicks in + tells me that if anything along my path had changed, I might not be where I am today.

  2. My husband is retiring soon, so I can’t help but think about what I want to do with the rest of my life! It will be weird working while he’s not, but I’m not ready to retire yet.

I guess patient reviews can have a positive side when they are nice! I have no doubt you are a great doctor, but it is important to hear that from others.

    1. I have a billion plans for things I’d like to do if I ever get there! :P

Thank you! :] I generally avoid looking because the last time I did, they were 1-star reviews from patients who were upset that I wouldn’t give them what they wanted (vs what they actually needed). The new patient feedback system they have is nice though; some of these comments are legit what get me through my days sometimes.

  3. Yay for that kind patient review. You they went out of their way and that means that you extra deserve it. Also that coconut noodle soup looks divine!

    1. <3 It definitely brightened my day!

I need to learn how to make it! It was so, so good! *-*

  4. What a wonderful review from your patient! It’s always nice to hear that others appreciate our hard work.

It’s great that Tofu is adjusting so well. What a cutie!

    1. Agreed! :]

I’m so glad he is too! Hoping to bring him camping with me at some point! :D

  5. What a great review – it must have felt amazing to get that kind of feedback from your patient!

    1. It definitely made my day!! :]!

  6. What a lovely review from your patient! I’m sure that was so uplifting. Tofu is so cute. I’m glad he enjoyed the hike! I left my “career” job when I had kids and since then only do jobs/projects that bring me joy. I’ve gotten criticism for it from some but it’s my life and I have no regrets.

    1. Me too! Hoping to drag him on more with me, hehehe.

That’s so sad that people feel like they need to comment on others’ lives — what matters is that you’re happy + I’m glad you’re able to work on jobs/projects that bring you joy!

  7. How much do I love that you named your dog tofu!? Like Marcia said above-I left my career when my kids were born and never looked back. So thankful I had the opportunity to do so.

    1. hehehe, I’m glad you like the name! :D He’s all white (with slightly light tan ears/stripe on his back) so he looks like a very lightly fried Tofu. <3

I'm glad you were able to do that! <3

  8. Tofu is SO cute.
    That soup. Yum

    1. He is!! <3
