If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I finally went and saw a physical therapist yesterday! He was super cool and gave me a realistic program for me to follow to hopefully get my butt back to doing the things I want to do. (I just gotta commit to actually being consistent with it + not increasing the weight too quickly now…)
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I went backcountry camping in a yurt earlier last month! It was a fun adventure as I’ve never been camping in the wintertime before (I am a total wimp when it comes to the cold…)
The yurt had a wood-burning stove though that kept us very nice and toasty even though Maya (the dog) decided that my blanket was her blanket and gave us a wounded expression whenever we tried to take it back from her.
I eventually gave up and just hugged her since she was warm, haha.
My friend’s car broke down when we were on our way down from the mountains (prior to us having cell service again). Thankfully, we’d taken 2 cars up and managed to limp his car back to civilization + we all managed to eventually get home.
I had fully expected that we’d be actually backpacking in the backcountry since the friend I was going with typically goes on pretty intense hikes. (Prior to last year, the shortest hike I’d ever been on with him was 11 miles + the longest hike I’ve ever done in a dayHiking Rose Peak in Sunol is also with him.) I considered it glamping since we got to sleep indoors and cook meal-meals/ate really well (e.g. instead of dehydrated meals). I’ve still been meaning to make my own dehydrated meals for future backpacking since the ones they sell are so darn expensive! (Just one out of my 2398407 projects…)
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’m getting scuba certified! :] I had my orientation yesterday evening and have a couple pool sessions followed by a Monterey trip later on this month! I’m super excited (and hope I learn/remember everything…) — I feel like it’s gonna open up an entire new world to explore!
We used to camp a lot but now we go on our boat, eat out in a restaurant and then sleep at home. It started with a tent and then sleep on the boat at an island. Eventually sleep in the boat at the marina with heat or air.
That’s exciting about scuba. I’ve snorkeled but I’m not a water person. I don’t even like to swim.
That sounds like fun!! My brother’s planning on doing a boat diving trip at some point in the next couple years — I’m kinda hoping I can learn enough to get to where he is (at least in terms of certifications) so I can tag along! :P
I hate the cold in getting out of the water but I love the ocean! :]
Yurts always look so cool! Even smallish dogs have a way of hogging the entire bed. Seriously, how does a 16 lb dog (in our case) push 2 adults almost out of the bed? Although really his most annoying habit is getting under and then out from then under the covers . .
That backcountry camping experience looks like it was fun! Might be a title too rugged for me LOL. Hope your PT helps give you some ideas. Thanks for joining!
You are so adventurous! The yurt looks as rustic as I would want to get. I’m all about the outdoors, but I do like creature comforts. Much like your pup!
Aww, thank you! :]! I’m really excited! There are some dive medicine trips I’ve found that sound super cool (but I’m getting way ahead of myself as per usual, haha — I should start with getting through this class first! :P ). Farrah recently posted…Ultimate Coffee Date: March 2023
Goodluck getting your scuba certification. I tried doing that years ago when I was a teenager but it didn’t work out. If I’m glamping in needs to be in an RV….ha! Although your little place looks cozy.
I’m not a fan of camping or even “glamping,” but that yurt looks pretty cozy! That sounds like a fun trip. And yes- scuba diving will definitely open up a whole new world to explore! Of course I’ve never done it- but I’m sure it will be amazing.
Hope the PT helps- it usually does.
hehe, truth be told, I didn’t plan that well for the trip so I didn’t completely know what to expect but it was a lot of fun + nice to get off the grid for a bit! :]
So cool! I would love to do a yurt, but the husband would be a hard no. My son is going on a pretty intense 7 day trek this summer. I am super excited for him and am helping him train.
Your camping experience looks so fun! I’ve never camped in the winter but in a cozy yurt? Yes, please!
And congrats on your certification! I did scuba diving once and it was so fun! Janelle @ Run With No Regrets recently posted…Ultimate Coffee Date – March 2023
Ah I thought you would have to dig a trench or something to go winter camping. That looks nicer.
Water is cold. Oof. Good luck w certification. It’s worth it if you go somewhere tropical and warm to use your certification. Sadly I still have old gear packed away in one of those rolling scuba suitcase like thingies. Collecting dust.
haha, I’m glad I didn’t have to! :P We did work on splitting firewood and stuffs though to replenish the wood pile!
Thank you! I’m excited about warmer destinations (e.g. Hawai’i/southeast Asia), but Monterey/Carmel = one of my favorite places, so I’m excited for that too (other than the cold)!
How fun you stayed in a yurt, and were able to stay toasty and comfortable. I’d totally just end up cuddling the dog too. LOL
And I have not been diving, but large bodies of water freak me out. LOL Good luck on the training!!!

Hope that PT gets you back on track.
I’m drooling over that dessert.

I have never been diving — have fun!
hahaha, the smallest ones always have the biggest personalities! :P My 5lb cat can sprawl across a whole queen-sized bed! :P
I’m excited!! :D

hahaha, totally understandable! The pit toilet left much to be desired, but it was a fun experience!
My PT guy was super cool! I’m happy to get the okay to start lifting again! :]

The yurt looks like great fun! And, the food amazing!
I remember how fun & exciting it was to get scuba certified, way back when. I know you will have great adventures!

I think it would be so fun to stay in a yurt. And yay for learning to scuba dive (I would be petrified, though)! I look forward to reading all about your under water adventures and seeing your pictures.

I would have snuggled the dog and the blanket, quite happily.

That yurt looks so cozy! I would go camping in the Winter as long as a yurt is included. :-)

It definitely made winter camping more enjoyable! :P I don’t think I would’ve found it as fun without it!
That’s awesome! I’m super excited! :D
