Hello, hello, and welcome to March’s Ultimate Coffee Date!
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I am only 13 days from finding out where I’m going to be spending the next 3 years of my life!!!
Dave and I went to SF Golden Gate Park to decide my future a couple weeks ago. (Residency programs, if you’re reading this, I am totally kidding. We really just wanted a fun excuse for archery + to get to catch up on life together!)
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…wayyy back when, I mentioned on my instagram that my brother said I looked like a [compact] sausage in my child’s pose, and Ricardo wanted to see, so I sent him said picture and he sent this back:
Good thing I hadn’t been drinking anything at the time, or I would’ve inhaled it in my laughter. :O
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…I am really, really enjoying getting to spend time with my friends and family again. Aside from almost-a-year in 2011, I haven’t lived at home or seen my family on a regular basis since about a decade ago.
(Thanks a lot, school!)
This year was the first time in basically almost a decade that I’ve gotten to spend Chinese New Year with my family, so my parents have been super happy lately. :D! (I think my dad’s expression is because we’re actually using a selfie stick. ._. Twas my mom’s idea. )
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d ask if…you’ve checked out some of my more recent recipes so far! :D! My friends and I got together for indoor food adventures/kitchen experiments and the results were fantabulous!
There’s definitely more where that came from, so stay tuned! :P
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…being at home is awesome, but also takes a lot of getting used to.
I’m not used to having to tell my parents where I’m going anymore since it’s been so long since I’ve needed to. My mom is a worrier, so when I’ve been at my rotation for 15+ hours, she starts calling me and wondering if I’m in a ditch somewhere.
I guess it probably doesn’t help that my close-to-home rotations have all been 12+-hour shifts every day and I think she was under the impression that after the 8th hour, I’m free to go. (Nope, it doesn’t work like that.)
It’s been awesome getting to hang out with them and my friends again though, and getting to indulge in all my hobbies! I’ve missed my piano dearly. <3
I’ve been trying to catch up with everyone I haven’t seen [at all or much of] in the past 2-9 years, so that combined with the hours on my Neurosurgery rotation have been wreaking havoc on my nonexistent sleep schedule. (Kidding. I’ve been averaging about 4-5 hours a night.) WHO NEEDS SLEEP!?
…I should probably refer back to my own sleep hygiene post. ._.

Oh, I hope the nxt 13 days pass quickly for you! I sympathize with your mom – I am able to not worry about my kids when they are not home, but when they are home, that mom-worry switches back on again.

Thank you! I feel bad that I’m worrying her! :[ I’ve tried telling her about my hours before, but I think she always forgets/worries anyway.
Yay for spending more time with your friends and family! How exciting that you will find out your future soon. Love the archery pic and you do not look like a sausage :) Thanks for joining us for coffee today always great to have you!

Agreed! :D I’m super excited too–can’t wait to find out where I’ll be going! :] Thanks for hosting! <3
I can’t imagine existing on 4-5 hrs a night. Only for the young!
Actually, I did, when Chester was sick, and it made me a tired, irritated witch with a b (at least sometimes).

I unfortunately automatically wake up after 4-5 hours now. :[ On the plus side, I’m really good at falling back asleep if I don’t technically need to be up yet! But oh, that snooze button is dangerous. ._.
It’s so great that you are getting to catch up with your family. It’s so interesting to see how relationships with family can often be picked up like you were never gone. It’s such a comfort to know you can always “come home” to people that you love. I hope you end up somewhere wonderful for the next phase of your journey!!

Agreed! I’m super glad that my relationships with my friends are like that too, so it’s always like nothing’s changed. <3 That makes it slightly easier to be away all the time!
Thank you! <3 I really hope so too!
Can’t wait to hear where you will be after the 13 days. You are totally enjoying family time, I love it. I am also a worrier like your mom. Have a wonderful weekend Farrah :)

Me too! :D Thankfully I’ve been keeping super busy, so not too much time to mull over it (and since there’s nothing I can do at this point, there’s no point worrying anyway!)! :P
I think it’s unavoidable, unfortunately, but I wish I could get her to stop–I feel really bad about worrying her. :[ Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful weekend too! <3
That pic of you with the food is hilarious! Your friend must have good photoshopping skills, lol. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who’s mom is a constant worrier. Whenever I’m around her after being on my own, I get the same reaction as you where she constantly wants to know where I’m going to be and if the area is safe.

hahaha, I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw that. :P I look like a piece of nigiri!
I still get that too! I’m trying to remember to tell her when I get to different places and when I’ll be coming back (or at least somewhat-estimated times), but it’s been hard getting used to that when I haven’t had to do that in such a long time, haha.
I can’t even with the childs pose pic. And omgomgomgomgomg match day is SO CLOSE!!!!!! I’m so excited for you. It is seriously one of the days ever. When you hear about colleges, it comes in spurts between friends, but this is one time when EVERYONE hears at the same time. Joy and disappointment, all at once. I know that you will be in the joy category :D

I’m so sorry! I just rescued this from the spam(?!?) folder, but yes indeed! My first choice program was in New Jersey, and I matched there! :]!
That pic of you in child’s pose is hilarious! I know what you mean about living home again. I briefly moved back in with my parents in 2011 and it was not the same. Can’t wait to hear where you’ll be living next!

I lived at home with my parents for a bit in 2011 too! It definitely takes some getting used to, but I do love actually getting to see and spend time with them! <3

heheh, I’d love to visit sometime! <3 I find out where I'm going exactly one week from today, so fingers and toes are crossed!!
All of the family time looks amazing – especially that Chinese New Year feast! Any schools in Chicago??? Fingers crossed that you get your first choice!
Author
Thanks so much, Erica! <3 I unfortunately didn't think to apply to any programs in Chicago, but that just means I'll have to plan a visit there sometime!! :D
I’ll add filters next time to make it blend in better, haha.
Author
haha, it’s already awesome as it is! :D
That picture of you in the pose is so funny! And it must be awesome that you’re able to be back with your family! It’s always great to have those family traditions, and your New Year’s meal looks delicious!
