Ultimate Coffee Date: January 2020

Welcome to the very first Ultimate Coffee Date of the year! I feel like I just wrote December’s last week! Last month seriously went by super quick!

Ultimate Coffee Date: January 2020

I discovered a boba place near my house that’s actually open pretty late! <3!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’m in the process of planning out my travels for this upcoming year! Currently on the docket are…

  • Arizona (extended weekend trip)
  • Yosemite with Rachel/Jaclyn (extended weekend trip)
  • Pacific Northwest road trip with 6F in the fall
  • Hiking the Enchantments trail in WA (extended weekend trip)
  • Glacier/Grand Teton/Yellowstone National Park? vs. Acadia National Park?
  • Colorado for a wilderness medicine conference in July? (~1 week) vs. primary care sports medicine conference in August? (Or in September in Lake Tahoe…?) So many decisions…
  • I’d love to visit my friends from residency again too at some point (but when… :'( )

I accrue almosttt 1.25 days of vacation per month that I work, so I might start picking up weekend shifts when I can so I can accrue additional time off. (We’ll see how this goes…)

This was from my office’s holiday party last month! :]

My MA asked me to keep her posted on my travel plans so she can try to plan to be on vacation at the same time. :P

Here’s to more travels, adventures, good eats, and pursuing hobbies in my free time this year. <3

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that although things in life have been going well lately, how I’ve been feeling has been pretty sub-optimal. Nothing’s inherently wrong at the moment and I have awesome friends and a great support system. There’s just a lot in my personal life that I’ve been mulling over/feeling conflicted about lately.

I’ve missed being home-home, but in being away for so many years, a lot has changed here. I’ve made a lot of close friends and been adopted into a number of different families that I really felt the absence of this year. It’s most likely a touch of seasonal depression. Hopefully, once the weather starts to improve and I start seeing a little more sunlight again, it’ll pass.

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…ask you what fitness goals you have for this upcoming year. I kinda want to do everything, so I’m having trouble fitting everything into each week.

See past ultimate coffee dates here!

  1. All that travel sounds nice! We went to Yosemite a few years ago when I ran Big Sur. It’s amazing and I’d love to go back. I don’t have anything on the calendar until March. I was considering a CME in February in Florida but I don’t want to go by myself!

    Happy New Year!

    1. Ooo, that’s awesome! I should put Big Sur on my list for a weekend trip now that I’m living back in CA again!

I feel ya! I’m probably going to most of my CMEs alone but I’m trying to see if I can corral random friends I haven’t seen so we can have a reunion of sorts at the CMEs! :P

  2. That’s a LOT of travel! I’d say Yellowstone over Acadia (but then I’ve been to Acadia, although have been trying to get back that was decades ago). We love to travel, but it’s been hard the last few years. We do have plans to visit Portland in the summer, but that’s about it right now.

I definitely suffer with SAD. Recently had bloodwork, and while my Vit D was better than expected, it was still lower than the low end of the range. I used to take it, but had stopped, so now I’m taking it again!

    1. haha, I have no guarantees that I’ll actually get to go on all of them, but I’m for-sure planning on the PNW road trip, Arizona, Enchantments trail, Yosemite weekend trip, and visiting my friends in NJ! :P

I’ve never been to Portland but people keep telling me I’d love it there–I should check it out sometime! Im’ pretty sure my vitamin D is also probably at least kindasorta low–I need to go get some supplements! :P

  3. Your travel plans sound awesome! I hope you get to take all of the trips. National parks are absolutely wonderful destinations. Yellowstone is awesome, but then, so is Acadia. Tough choice!

I’m sorry to hear about your blue feelings. They are common this time of year, I know, but it doesn’t help to hear that when you’re down. Increasing the running/fitness activities may help.

Hubby and I leave the middle of this month to take a trip to Florida to visit my sister and BIL. I’m very anxiously awating that. And in March, we go to Morocco!

    1. I hope so too! Fingers and really all of my limbs are basically crossed! :P

For sure! I’m trying to convince myself to get out of bed and do more things, and when I’m successful in that, it definitely helps!

That sounds awesome! I hope you have a fun and safe trip! :]

  4. You sure do have some great travel plans on tap for this year! Can’t wait to follow along. Thanks for joining for coffee

    1. Thanks! I’m super looking forward to em’! :]

  5. You have some fun trips coming up this year! As of now I am planning to go to GA and KS. My mother and I want to go to Mexico in March so I just need to buy the tickets. I love to read and am hoping I can do more of that this year.

    1. Ooo, that sounds like fun! I hope you have safe/fun trips out there and that you get to do more reading this year! I’d love to read more too!

  6. Lots of exciting travel coming up! The hubs and I just returned from a few days in California & Arizona…but he’s already booked another trip for March–>Florida. Happy 2020!

    1. Ooo, nice! I hope you had a lot of fun! That’s awesome that you already have another trip planned too! :] Happy 2020 to you as well!

  7. I’m in awe of all your traveling adventures in 2019 – they all look like so much fun!

    1. It was definitely a ton of fun! I hope I still get to do a good amount of traveling this year too! :]

  8. You had such a great year of travel and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the new year! I had some big travel plans, but with my leg, I need to reign back on all that until I’m comfortable getting around by myself. It’s one of the worst side effects of this whole mess.

    1. I’m excited for it! :]

I’m so sorry about your leg though. I really hope you’ll recover soon/quickly! <3!

  9. Your travel plans sound like fun! We don’t have any big vacations planned yet – I’m itching to get away for a bit. My son will be a senior this fall so I’m sure we’ll spend part of the year visiting college campuses…hopefully someplace warm ;)

  10. I really want to go to Acadia! I love the other options, but I also see them pretty regularly, haha. I would say don’t try to do all 3 in the same trip unless you have over a week though…

    1. Hmmm, I’m not sure I have enough vacation time this year to take that trip then. Maybe I’ll table it for 2021! (We shall see! *-*)

  11. Whew! Lots of exciting travel plans for you. While I am very well traveled internationally, I’d LOVE to get to some of our National Parks. We loved Acadia in Maine and of course the Grand Canyon. I hear you on feeling “off”. I feel like I’m struggling with a tough of SAD as well.

    1. I feel ya! I think I’ve been to a lot of places internationally but never really explored the US too much yet, so I’m trying to change that up! *-*

Fingers crossed that it improves for the both of us soon! I’m looking into maybe getting one of those lights for light therapy, hehe.

  12. Nice! I love looking ahead and planning travel for the year. Our year will likely be less but I’m thinking a few UK trips will be happening (as it’s a cheap flight usually and I have friends where I can stay). Chicago of course and Malaga to see my parents. Your list sounds amazing… I’ve been to both Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons but I was young and hardly remember the trip.

I am sorry you are feeling a bit out of sorts. As a foreigner in my resident country I go through feelings of not belonging and loneliness or at least a feeling that I’m “missing” something. I don’t think it’s the same that you are going through but just wanted to say I do think it is seasonal/ cyclical when you are away from home-home.

As for fitness goals, I’m laying low for a bit as far as that goes and just aiming to stay fit , healthy and injury-free. I’ll reassess after a few months.

    1. Ooo, that should be fun! Wishing you safe travels, and I’m glad you’ll get to see your parents! I moved back home so I’ve seen my parents more in the past month than I have in the last several years combined.

That definitely makes sense! I definitely had some of that when I was away from home-home for the past 13-ish years but now that I’m back, there’s a lot to get used to and so much has changed that I vaguely feel like I don’t belong here as much anymore(?). (I’m honestly not sure; I haven’t given myself much time to sort this all out, hehe.)

Those are definitely important goals! I’m hoping to do the same!

  13. This is such a cool concept. Coffee date but blogging it… “if we were having coffee/tea today id…” so simple but it honestly blew my mind.

    1. Thanks! It’s one of my favorite blog link-ups! :]

  14. I have not been to Yosemite, but I have been to Acadia several times. I live in Maine just 2 1/2 hours away from it. It is absolutely gorgeous and Bar Harbor the town there, is one of my favorite places! Let me know if you have any questions about Acadia!

    1. Ooo, thank you! I’ll definitely have to add Bar Harbor to the list then! :] I’m trying to figure out the best time to go (fall seems to be it, but I’m slightly worried about crowds, haha).

  16. You’ve had so many changes, it’s a lot to get used to or re-used to. And all the changes are supposed to be good, so I’m sure that makes it harder when they’re hard. I bet you will find your groove soon. Love all your travel plans. I’m not that ambitious but am working on a few get-aways.

Thanks for joining the coffee date!

    1. That’s true! I hope I’ll find it soon too! Some days I feel like I’ve gotten it down and other days…not so much, hehe. I guess it’s a part of life though. :]

      Thanks for hosting! :]

  17. Awww, I’m enjoying my Vienna latte while catching up on my blog comments & came across yours! I see you are planning a trip to my homestate of WA for some hiking?? So excited for you going to the Enchantments…do you have a permit yet? I haven’t backpacked that one yet but hope to do so soon…it’s a beautiful place! Don’t forget to spend some time at the Bavarian town of Leavenworth nearby! It’s my favorite during fall/winter!

    1. I am! I think they’re opening up for permit requests in mid-February so I haven’t gotten one yet. I think the chances of actually getting the camping permit = suuuuper slim so we’re probably gonna try for the day hike! I’ll definitely add Leavenworth to our list of places to check out while we’re there! :]!
