It’s been awhile since there’s been a Tofu appearance on my blog! He’s settling in quite nicely and our friend’s dog, Korra, is chillin’ in the back! :P
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I finally got my knee looked at by a doctor yesterday! I’m proud to report that my knees are not arthritic (I didn’t think that was the case, but it’s cool to have that confirmed). I just need to schedule PT and hope for the best! (I may also have a new climbing buddy!)
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that one of my gripes with work = the lack of respect for our boundaries. While I definitely agree that giving our patients a comfortable/safe/nonjudgmental environment is important, I’d like to believe that being respectful should be a two-way street.
Some time ago, one of my patients sent me an angry email asking me why I was ignoring her pain. (I had ordered x-rays for her, given her a treatment plan, and asked her to follow up with me 8 months before and she hadn’t contacted me since.) She threatened to bring her “burly male friends in to intimidate [me].” Is she still my patient? Yep.
Last week, a couple patients complained about me because I didn’t schedule an appointment with a specialist for them within a timeframe that was acceptable to them (they wanted it within the week for a completely non-urgent concern (acne) + I have zero control over the specialist’s schedules). One of em’ cited this as discrimination (…).
Despite the above though, I’d say about 95% of my patients are super lovely and make my days go by a lot more smoothly.
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that in a couple months, I’m going to be camping in the world’s largest cave system in the world! (It’s so ginormous that it actually has its own ecosystem in there!) The group we’re going with sent us a list of recommendations for shoes and I was somewhat dismayed to see how expensive they were…
Thankfully, I usually also like checking to see if there are kids’ version as well! As luck would have it, they did, and it was on super-sale.
I managed to snag these for…$32! The cashier did a double-take when he rang me up!
Wow the cave camping trip sounds like an amazing adventure! How great to find a kids’ version of the shoes you need. A big boo to rude patients. I can’t even imagine.
Sadly, I guess people like that are everywhere. :[ I’m thankful that most of my patients are really awesome though! Farrah recently posted…Ultimate Coffee Date: February 2023
Ugh on the patient complaints. Around here it’s impossible to see a specialist sooner than 6 weeks. Most of mine are booked out for months unless it’s an emergency.
It’s brilliant that you can wear child-sized shoes! Sounds like it will be a real adventure.
Yep! It’s the same over here as well — I tried to be helpful + offer alternatives where they could be seen quickly but they ended up getting more pissed, so alas.
Ouch to the knee! I fell on the trails last summer and subluxed my kneecap. Sadly, I still have episodes of pain, but I just do my resistance band exercises to activate my VMO and I’m good to go again. I know enough to be dangerous, lol
Oh, do I feel you on those patients. I’ve had a few parents who can’t get their kids in with their PCP right away and say they’ll see ‘anybody’. I’m ‘anybody’ and they come in with a list of chronic, non-urgent complaints and demand for me to test ‘everything’. I address their immediate concerns but remind them that they need to schedule a follow-up with their PCP for the lab work. Of course, they get mad and complain. Because we’re like Burger King, they want it their way…lol. Like you said 95% of the patients are nice and that sure helps.
Ahh, I’m so sorry to hear that! (This is the slowest response in all of history, sorry — totally thought I’d already responded!) Totally with you on knowing enough to be dangerous, haha.
The Burger King thing is definitely accurate, haha. ._. I’m super thankful that most everyone is nice — the ones who aren’t = the ones tend to be the ones who end up taking up the majority of my time and still aren’t happy/satisfied with anything I’ve done. That is awful about what your patients are doing! I am glad that not everyone is like that. That is great news about the knee!

I’m super glad too! I would probably quit if everyone were like that. :'(!!
Thanks! Hoping it’ll get better soon!
