Welcome to the 4th Ultimate Coffee Date of 2022! (Happy April Fool’s? Are you planning on playing pranks on anyone?)
Ultimate Coffee Date: April 2022
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’ve sadly been slacking on my blog again. It’s gotten extra swamp-like at work lately because of a metric we’re supposed to meet where if a patient calls about something they deem urgent, we have to force-book an appointment into our schedules within 48 hours.
While patients having access is good thing, things that have been deemed as “urgent” has spanned from a 10-year history of mild intermittent foot pain to paperwork they want filled out that day to someone wanting to know where they could get crutches. I got 6 of these requests in the span of 4 hours yesterday afternoon, so I was not a happy camper. I’m really, reallyyyy looking forward to having a week off later this month.
(In an effort to not be a total downer, I recently got a new medical assistant assigned to me and she is absolutely wonderful!!! She makes my life a lot better than it could be.)
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’m headed off to Yosemite after work today for a short getaway (I have work again on Sunday, haha)! Looking forward to reconnecting with two of my closest friends from college and escaping to nature at least for a little bit. We’ll be hiking the Mist Trail!
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’ve been glancing more closely at houses lately on Redfin. I’ve wanted a dog since I was super little (when I met my first golden retriever) but I need a fenced yard.
Since we’re paying rent anyway, it’d be really nice to get to funnel that into something of our own instead. Housing prices in the bay area are frighteningly depressing though, so I’m hoping we’ll somehow get super lucky and find an amazing deal and/or a miracle can happen. (One can dream, right?) Fingers crossed!

- Have you been feeling burned out lately?
- If you own a house, did you use a realtor? Any house-buying tips for me? What questions did you ask if you did? We’re meeting with one over the weekend because we have zero idea of what we’re doing. ._.

I hear you on work. Last week, I received a message from one of the coders who asked me to spell out my URI instructions in my plan. That way she could upcode the visit. SERIOUSLY? It has been more interesting at work though, with every virus known to man making kids sick.
Enjoy Yosemite! i’d love to go back. Sounds like the perfect escape.
The amount of hoops we need to jump through for things not related to patient care is absolutely ridiculous. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this too! I wish the people making decisions were people who actually see patients — I feel like that’d make a big difference in the type of things they make us do.
It was a beautiful escape!!

Good luck with the house hunt! I hope you find what you’re looking for. You can have a dog without a fenced in backyard — been there, done that — but it isn’t easy. Especially with your work!
Enjoy Yosemite. It’s such a beautiful place.
I personally try to avoid drs as much as possible (no offense) so I don’t get the people who go at the drop of a hat!
Thank you! With the hours we work (+ wanting to adopt one from a rescue), I think the fence is gonna be a must (we want a big dog, hehe :D ). Fingers crossed that it’ll get to happen!
None taken at all! I just feel bad about these because a lot of them are frivolous concerns that they definitely could’ve just scheduled an appointment for, but in this culture of “everything needs to be done right now immediately at this moment,” it’s not happening. I feel like we’re running an urgent care on top of our regular practice.

That is exciting that you are on a house hunt. I totally see you with a big dog. Thanks for stopping in for coffee
I can’t waitttt. Hopefully we’ll find something in the next couple years! (Still hoping for prices to drop drastically, haha.) Thanks for hosting!

Oh yes, houses in your area are crazy expensive! Good luck- it would be amazing to get a dog.
Your work sounds really hard and stressful. I’m glad you have some time off coming up! And we’ll of course want pictures from Yosemite : )
It hurts to look at the prices, haha.
Thank you! I’ll share some at the next coffee date! :]

Enjoy your time in Yosemite! I like that painting. I hear ya on house prices. I’ve been looking for years and still nothing. Now it is worse because they’re much more expensive. Good luck!

Thank you! It’s been so, so expensive lately. I keep hoping the prices will crash but alas!

That sounds like a misguided goal at work — at least without someone screening the requests. Hopefully it will be reevaluated and ditched soon. Did the person who wanted crutches come in for an appointment? That makes no sense.
Yosemite sounds like a good antidote to it all. Enjoy!
Right? I really hope it gets ditched soon (or at least that we get compensated for it? I feel like they’re making us run a [poorly managed/staffed] urgent care alongside our regular practice). ._.
It was definitely a nice break!
I also have been slacking on the blog posts.
Good luck on the house hunting, prices are so crazy.
Have a great time in Yosemite. I bet this is a perfect time of year there.
Hopefully we’ll get back to em’ soon!
Yosemite was gorgeous! It was definitely a nice/much-needed break.
While my job (at a signage company) is nothing compared to your workload, I do experience a lot of “emergencies” from our sales reps. We implemented a “Rush request” policy awhile ago to expedite getting pricing requests back to the reps if there were special circumstances (with management approval). Of course, that just means they try to deem anything an ASAP crisis…which then pushes back on all the previous “non-ASAP” stuff. I’m glad you have a great assistant to help you. I love your painting!
Thank you! It is unfortunate that the culture now is “everything needs to be done immediately” even if it’s nowhere close to an emergency, especially when everything everywhere is so short-staffed already. It makes dealing with actual emergencies more difficult since we’re still forced to address the non-urgent things in the same timeline. Hoping for positive change!

I’ve been a bit up and down with my blogging. I’m trying to schedule ahead, but we’ll see. We do what we can, right?
That urgent request for an appointment seems a bit insane. I mean, in theory, it’s a great idea, but someone needs to be able to say if it’s actually an emergency or not!

Very true! I keep saying I’ll get back into it but life has been so busy lately! :[
Agreed! Some kind of actual triaging process would be much appreciated.
