Trail of Ten Falls in Silver Falls State Park

Welcome to Travel Tuesday! I think you know by now that I love waterfalls, so I’m bringing you on another waterfall hike this week–the Trail of Ten Falls in Silver Falls State Park!

Distance: 8.7 miles (loop)
Elevation: 1194 ft
Difficulty: Moderate
Duration: ~4 hours
Trailhead Address: 44.87698, -122.65468
Parking:
Large lot available ($5 for day use!)

Silver Falls State Park is the biggest state park in Oregon (9000 acres!) and has over 24 miles of trails that can be used for hiking/biking.

The Trail of Ten Falls is a fairly family-friendly hike (at least for portions of it — we saw a bunch of kids of varying ages on the trail, but they may not have gone for the entire thing). As the name suggests, this will lead you past 10 different waterfalls (4 of which you can walk behind!). If you’re all about pretty waterfall hikes, definitely check this one out!

I didn’t include photos of every single waterfall since…well, you gotta see this for yourself! Be aware though that it is an extremely popular trail, so if you’re looking for solitude, this wouldn’t be it (unless you get far enough along on the trail).

We went here during the summertime but it’s probably pretty any time of the year (possibly best in the spring when there’s the most water)!

We did a clockwise loop starting at South Falls. (You can also choose to start from the North Falls Trailhead though.)

The majority of the trail is shaded with trees! Be sure to bring water with you though since it can still get kinda hot, especially if you go in the summer! It’s a great day trip from Portland (road distance-wise, it’s ~59.4 miles away).

I loved this trail! I did this hike two years ago. All the waterfalls were so beautiful. I agree with it being a moderate hike.

  4. Silver falls looks like a beautiful place to hike. Hopefully I’ll make it there on my next trip to OR!

  5. I was all about chasing waterfalls this past spring! They never get old, I’m just mesmerized by them.

  6. Oregon is on my bucket list for next year and this trail looks amazing! I like that it’s a pretty good length and the views are so pretty!

  7. Amaaaazing! This is such good value if you think of the effort to waterfall ratio! I mean, you get more than one waterfall for each mile that you walk! Plus, I always LOVE it when you can walk behind waterfalls. This is the kind of adventure that makes me sooo happy! Perfect, even on rainy days.
