Toledo Botanical Garden

Welcome to another Travel Tuesday! I’m taking a slight break from hiking to share the Toledo Botanical Garden with you! I’ve visited only a couple other botanical gardens in my life (the one in UC Berkeley and the one in Rutgers, but I may have to add these to places I need to visit as well. :P

Toledo Botanical Garden

Location: 5403 Elmer Drive, Toledo, OH 43615
Hours: Daylight hours year-round!
Admission: Free! (Except for certain special events*)
Parking: Free!

*Crosby Festival of the Arts, Jazz in the Garden, and Harvest Market Dinner require admission fees! Please be aware that the garden does close at 2 pm on Thursdays from mid-July through the end of August because they have Jazz in the Garden concerts! (They open up again at 5:30 pm for admission to the concert!)

The Toledo Botanical Garden has a lot of paved paths, although there are some gardens that will require traveling through uneven terrain (e.g. dirt/gravel). Pets, bikes, skates, scooters, and skateboards are not allowed here!

The gift shop + visitor center is open from 10 am – 5 pm daily and they also have a Hands-On Studio that’s open to the public with a bunch of different workshops, including…

  • Batik + Rust Dyeing
  • Wool & Spinning
  • Knitting-to-Felt
  • Needle or Nuno Felting
  • Making musical instruments (stoneware rattle, ocarina, rainstick/drum)
  • Art journaling
  • Collage art
  • Jewelry making
  • (Etc.!)

Sadly, there weren’t any workshops going on while I was there, so I didn’t get to try it out, but maybe someday when I’m back!

There are a number of different areas, including a rose garden, vegetable garden, herb garden, pioneer garden, woodland garden, perennial garden, and an Artist’s Village garden. (You can check out a map here!)

Check out a short virtual tour of the Toledo Botanical Garden, located in northern Ohio--it's free to the public! #botanicalgarden #toledo #travel #ohio

  • Have you ever been to a botanical garden?
  • Do you have a green thumb? I wish I did. Not sure what I can classify myself as–my tomato plant got savaged by raccoons, so it wasn’t really my fault? :/

    1. Right?! I really wish I could’ve gone to the art journaling class! I’m making a travel bullet journal right now to document my trip so I feel like I need ideas! :P
