It’s Foodie Friday! I’m back with another cookbook review–The Ultimate Cooking for One Cookbook! For the most part, I’ve been living alone for the past 8 years (apart from my last year of med school where I was technically homeless and moving every 2-4 weeks all over the country for rotations).
I’ll be the first to admit that I often didn’t feel like cooking because it was just for me (food is best shared, unless it’s the Davis Farmer’s Market apple juice), so this definitely sounded like an interesting cookbook to me!
This section covers a lot of helpful tips and techniques, ways to avoid wasting food (yay!), how to stock your kitchen, and what essential kitchen equipment you’ll need.
Roasted Garlic Cauliflower, Roasted Beets with Goat Cheese, Sweet Potato Casserole, Sausage Pine Nut Dressing, Italian Pasta Salad…
Chicken Main Dishes
Butter Chicken, White Chicken Chili, Sweet and Spicy Baked Chicken Wwings, Chicken and Peppers Sheet Pan Dinner, Chicken Jambalaya, Barbecue Chicken Pita Pizza…
Beef and Pork Main Dishes
Beef Stroganoff, Spanish Rice, Italian Wedding Soup (one of my favorite soups :] ), Crustless Goat Cheese and Prosciutto Quiche, Sausage and Pepper Hoagie…
Fish and Seafood Main Dishes
Baked Stuffed Fish Fillet, Roasted Salmon with Maple and Mustard, Eggs and Smoked Salmon and Pesto, Smoky Baked Catfish, Fish Tacos with Curried Broccoli Slaw, Crawfish Beignets…
Vegetarian Main Dishes
Chickpea Curry, Mushroom and Herb Crustless Quiche, Spinach Pesto Pasta, Black Bean Soup, Tomato Bisque, One-Pot Vegetarian Chili Mac, Vegetarian Enchiladas Verdes…
Although I’ve moved back in with my parents (how can one afford to live in the bay area?!), I’m all for cookbooks that can help to not waste food! I’m pretty excited to try out the recipes–I don’t think I saw a prep time over 25 minutes or a cook time over an hour!
If you’re looking for a cookbook with lots of simple recipes that don’t take 2342937 ingredients to make, this would be a great pick, especially if you live alone! (If not, these recipes are easily doubled/tripled/etc.!)
I need to check out this book. It’s so hard to cook just for myself. I do it but it’s the same thing over and over again. You look up recipes but then it says it serves 6. My freezer isn’t big enough for all the extra food.
So the recipes are for single servings? That’s interesting! I’m doing a lot of “cooking for one” these days with the hubby gone a couple nights each week (and the kids are gone, too).
This is genius! Back when I lived on my own, cooking was awful because I hated leftovers and planning. I would live on cous cous and popcorn and vegetables. It was ridiculous.
These recipes are awesome!
I am salivating already!

Yum!!! This looks amazing. I’ll just double the recipes and cook for me and my husband now that the kids are in college.
That’s probably what I’ll end up doing now that I’m living back at home! :P
It can be challenging to cook for one. I make a lot of veggie meals for myself and end up with way more than I expected

Same! Sometimes it’s hard for me to have much/any motivation to cook if I know it’s only for me. :[

Agreed! I like the idea of meal prep but sometimes it just seems like too much of a production if I’m just cooking for myself!

They are! I feel like I haven’t seen another cookbook with just single servings yet.

Thanks for sharing this book! I know a couple of people who can benefit from it as they find it hard to cook for one.
I hope they like it! I think it’s definitely gonna come in handy for me! :]
Great post! I wish this book was out when I was cooking for myself. Definitely a time and money saver
I wish I’d had it earlier this year! Definitely would’ve been even more helpful then! :P
I think the best part is the 25 minutes or less prep/cook time. I’d almost hate to ‘bother’ putting a ton of time into cooking for just myself.

Me too!! The short prep times definitely make cooking for myself moreeee likely to happen, haha.
That all looks delicious. I am ordering this book right now for my sister the Single Foodie. Lol t
Oo, I hope she likes it!! :]

Ahh! I’m glad I’m not alone–I used to live on popcorn and vegetables too just because I didn’t want to have to cook-cook, hahaha.
Ooh this would be really handy. I’m trying to cook more often, and it’s often just food for myself since I eat differently than my family.
