Seattle Pike Place Market Food Tour

Welcome to Travel Tuesday! I figured I’d share another food tour since I love food and travel (it is a wonderful combination! <3). Soooo come find out more about the Seattle Pike Place Market Food Tour!

Although absolutely disgusting, if you’re going to be going to the Pike Place Market anyway, you might as well stop by the Gum Wall (1428 Post Aly). The city does periodically wash this off, but still gross, still unique.

Pike Place Market is a non-profit that aims to support small businesses and increase farm + food retailing opportunities. It’s home to over 200 restaurants/shops and even has affordable housing nestled within it! They’re open 7 days a week and are only closed on Thanksgiving + Christmas Day. You can find out more about their hours + how to get there here.

Our local guide was Nola! She greeted us in the atrium and started us each off with a raspberry bar from Three Girls Bakery while she told us about how Pike Place Market came to be. It’s been around since 1907 and is one of the oldest and largest public markets there is in the country.

Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt

If you’re a fan of Greek yogurt, our first stop would be a good one for you — Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt (1500 Pike Pl)! We had their marionberry greek yogurt while we were there and I’ve since gotten to try their passionfruit + lemoncurd at a different food (Yelp) event and it’s all been amaaaazing.

Market Spice

Our next stop was to Market Spice (85 A Pike Pl), where we sampled the Market Spice Tea — a delicious blend of cinnamon and orange (+ despite its sweetness, it somehow has no sugar in it at all!). We may or may not have purchased a couple pounds and are slowly rationing it on these cold (to me) winter days. They’ve been around since 1911 and have all kinds of spices, teas and blends!

Three Girls Bakery

Three Girls Bakery (1514 Pike Pl) was where we got our first snack of the day! It’s the very first business that was licensed to women in the city of Seattle and is one of the oldest businesses still at the Pike Place Market. They have lots of delicious goodies and their leftover bread (if any) is donated daily.

Pike Place Fish Co

If you’ve heard about the fish-throwing and want to see it for yourself, you gotta head to Pike Place Fish Co (86 Pike Pl)! It was founded back in 1930 and the fishmongers will throw fish purchased by customers prior to wrapping it up for them. All their seafood is 100% sustainable and the workers provide amazing customer service! We got to sample some of their smoked salmon candy + the peppercorn smoked wild king salmon and took some home with us, but if you don’t want to carry it, they can pack fish for airline travel to ship overnight anywhere in the U.S.!

Truffle Queen

Our next stop was to Truffle Queen (1524 Pike Pl)! We got to sample the truffle salt and a few super tasty appetizers including one that had pistachio cream (<3). I couldn’t resist getting some of the truffle salt (for popcorn and potatoes)! We gifted the pistachio cream to our very happy friend (the least we could do for taking us on this food tour!).

Pike’s Pit Bar-B-Que

We headed over for some pulled pork with slaw afterward at Pike’s Pit Bar-B-Que (1505 Pike Pl)! They only have one type of sauce (in mild, medium or hot), but it’s delicious!

Pike Place Chowder

Twas a plus that we were on the food tour in the sense that we got to avoid the ginormous line leading to Pike Place Chowder (1530 Post Aly, Ste 11). Nola got us each a bowl of clam chowder from here and we didn’t even have to wait. The chowder was very creamy and flavorful (and wildly popular–it has almost 8000 review on Yelp)!

Chukar Cherries

Next up, we got to try an assortment of chocolate-covered cherries from Chukar Cherries (1529b Pike Pl)! Chocolate-covered fruit is probably one of my favorite ways to enjoy chocolate, so this was definitely right up my alley as well. (They were delicious, and I love they get em’ to taste that amazing without any preservatives or added sugar!)

Los Agaves

We also had al pastor street tacos served with cilantro, onions, and salsa at Los Agaves (1514 Pike Pl). If you’re in the mood for some delicious Mexican street food combined with Pacific Northwest, this is worth a stop!

Indi Chocolate

One of the places she meant to bring us to was randomly closed for the day, so she quickly found another for us–Indi Chocolate (1901 Western Ave)! They source their cacao beans directly from farmers + cooperatives to make small-batch single-origin dark chocolate. Aside from chocolate chip cookies, they also had coffee, truffles, body lotion + lip balm, tea, spice rubs, and even soap! The chocolate orange lotion smelled amazinggg (they also had chocolate mint + chocolate rose).

Other stops where we didn’t eat anything but looked around/explored included the Pike Place Creamery, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese (you could watch it being made from the windows!), and Mee Sum Pastry (great  place for dim sum + pastries!). There’s one other shop she wanted to bring us to that had great saffron  but it was unfortunately closed that day as well — if you’re wanting to make paella though, make sure you stop at Cyrus Saffron!

Nola was super knowledgeable about the area and attentive to any dietary restrictions. She also gave us a ton of great suggestions on places to visit and other fooding options. We had a great time — definitely hoping to go on more food tours in the future!

That gum wall!! Oh my god how gross but funny. Some people spelled out words.😂 I would not be able to add to that wall but I’d definitely take a look. Too funny.
Well, the rest of your post was absolutely delicious. I want the chocolate covered cherries, the truffle salt, and that Greek yogurt sounded good too. And I want to drink more tea so maybe that too. And tacos!! Always tacos!!😋
I need to go on a food tour. They seem so fun and yummy. Thanks for sharing!

    1. hahaha, isn’t it?! I’d heard about it before but was still grossed out when I saw it. I definitely wouldn’t add to it either but it’s a novelty for sure. :P

I realized I maybe shouldn’t have posted that right before I was about to talk about a bunch of food, but…what’s done is done. :D…

Self-guided food tours are really fun (I did a tonn of those) but the guided ones are a nice change of pace, especially in areas where I’m not as familiar with everything. It’s cool getting to learn from the locals! :]

  1. Oooh Pike place market is such a perfect place for a food tour. I went here on my first ever trip to the USA (with my friend who was from Seattle…) but if I am honest, all I really remember was the fishes being thrown! I’m glad you got to try some candied salmon. I flipping love that stuff! But all these tasters sound lovely!

p.s. you got sooo close to all the hikes up here in Canada if you made it as far as Seattle! I’ll tempt you North at some point. :D

    1. Aww, that’s awesome! The fish throwing is definitely memorable, so I don’t blame you, haha. And yes! The candied salmon was amazinggg. <3

I diddd. No need to tempt! I already would love to go! *-* I just don't have enough vacation days yet, but I reallyyyy hope to. You've shared so many places I'd love to check out!!

I’ve been to Seattle but once, and I did not make it to Pike’s Place. I’ve heard so much about it, but I’ve also had people tell me that it is a bit of a tourist trap. Doesn’t see like you feel that way. Which is great news! I would love to go try all the tasty food!

    1. There definitely are lotssss of tourists there but I definitely do think it’s worth a visit if you’ve never been! (As long as you’re a fan of food + farmers markets, I think you’ll definitely find something to like there! :] )

  2. Pike Place Market is a must-see if you are visiting Seattle! I enjoyed meandering through the market and trying different vendor products. You gave us a great list of places to try.

    1. It’s definitely a fun place to explore! I feel like I still haven’t explored the bulk of it! :P

  3. I haven’t been to Seattle yet but Pike Place Market is on my list of the top things to do. This food tour will be perfect!

    1. Ooo, yes–for sure! I hope ou have fun when you go! :]

  4. YUM! I’ve been to Pike Place Market many times but never have done a food tour there. It’d be 100% worth it! I still remember eating the literally best-ever tomatoes at Pike Place about 6 years ago — I’ll never forget them!

    1. Ahh, now I’m really wishing I’d tried the tomatoes there!! Guess I’ll just have to go back! :P

  5. It’s been so long since I visited Pike Place market. And even then, we were only in Seattle for a quick overnight. We saw the fish throwing, but we didn’t have a chance to actually walk around and eat all the good stuff. This post totally makes me want to go back and try it all!

    1. The fish throwing is a classic! :P I’d love to go back to eat some more (and try out all that fresh fruit *-*)!

  6. You made my stomach turn with the gum wall! How disgusting!! However, I do love a good food tour and it all sounded delicious.

    1. hahah, I’m so sorry! In retrospect, I maybe shouldn’t have put that up right before talking about a food tour, but it’s so close to the market (and for whatever reason, such a popular tourist attraction)!

This brings back so many great memories! I used to go to Seattle a ton for work and would usually visit Pike Place. I never did a food tour but I’d love to on my next visit! Eating some chocolate covered fruit, clam chowder and BBQ would be top on my list.

    1. Ooo, that’s awesome! I hope you get to do that next! :D There’s so much good food there!!

  7. I miss Pike Place market. I would drive down quite often from Vancouver and stock up on delicious food but haven’t been able to for the last couple of years. You mentioned a lot of my favorite places including Market Spice. I always take away more tea etc from there than I need but it’s so good

    1. Ahh, that’s awesome! I can definitely relate — we bought a lotttt of tea from there but I’m still worried we’re going to run out! :P

    1. haha, very true! It was hard to resist going through without spending anything (we definitely did not succeed in doing that :P )!

  8. I need to do this Pike’s Place food tour next time I’m in Seattle!

    1. Yay! I hope you have fun when you go!

  9. I’ve only visited Seattle once, and I didn’t get to see Pike’s Place. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, but I’ve also heard that it’s a bit of a tourist trap. You don’t appear to be feeling that way. That’s fantastic news! I’d love to go try all of the delicious food!

    1. There are spots that can definitely be touristy but if you just stick to what you’re looking for/interested in finding, I think you’ll be fine! :] Hope you enjoy!
