Welcome back to Travel Tuesdays! I know I keep popping in and out with these, but I’ve been on the strugglebus in terms of balancing everything lately, and you know real life (aka residency) always has to be prioritized above most other things!
This isn’t a super-expansive post on Rutgers Gardens, but it does touch on a number of the things it has to offer (I did an outdoor photography workshop there last-last weekend with the Rutgers Go Outdoors group)!
Outdoor Photography Workshop at the Rutgers Gardens

Rutgers Gardens is a botanical garden located in New Brunswick, NJ, and is open 365 days a year!
Address: 112 Ryders Lane, New Brunswick, NJ 08901
Parking: Free!
Admission: Free!
Hours: 8:30am til dusk (year-round)
If you want to go on a guided tour of the gardens, they’re available from Monday-Saturday!
M-F: Adults $10, Seniors (65+) $8, Children $5
Saturday: Adults $12, Seniors (65+) $10, Children $5
I’ve never done the guided tour since I usually just wander everywhere on my own (or with friends). There’s a map available as well! For the outdoor photography workshop, we mainly went through the bamboo forest (one of my favorite places in NJ–I discovered back when I was in grad school!) and the pollinator garden (…I think).

You can see what’s in bloom each month. There are also a variety of different classes available on gardening, flower arrangement, wreath decorating, etc., and also cooking classes! It seems to be a pretty popular date spot as well, haha.
On Fridays from May through December, there’s a Farmer’s Market there from 11am-5pm. (Thus far, I’ve never gotten to go because I’m always working. :[ Maybe when I’m on night shift…?)
In the summers, they often have outdoor yoga! I managed to catch a session back when I was in intern year on night shifts!

Please note that alcohol isn’t permitted there. There are also no public restrooms in Rutgers Gardens, so plan accordingly!
P.S. If you’re there to take professional photos, you’ll need to purchase a photo permit for $125 (covers 1.5 hours), but if you’re just there to visit and take casual photos, have at it!
- Have you ever visited a botanical garden? Where did you go?
- What’s your favorite plant/flower?

Thanks! It’s always fun to explore these gardens! :]
Looks lovely! Interesting on the fees for professional photographers. I’ve been to the Botanical Gardens here in D.C. and in Denver.
Ooo, I haven’t had a chance to check either of those out yet, but I hope to at some point! :]!
Looks like a day well spent! What a beautiful place.

It definitely was! The fact that it’s free definitely helps too, hehehe.
What a gorgeous place to walk and explore. The classes sound so nice too.
I’m hoping I’ll have the chance to take some of the classes sometime!
