Tis the last day to enter my Nektar Naturals giveaway!
I don’t have any new recipes for you today because planning/scheduling my life is a mess (of sorts) right now.
Before I moved from the bay area (or if you want to get all technical, CA -> NJ -> CA -> WV -> KY), I don’t think I’d ever even heard of(?) mason jars. (I know, I know.)
But mason jars are where it’s at. You can use them for so many different things! I’m gonna share two old recipes with you–greek yogurt parfaits + chia pudding!
Wayyy back in the day (about 5 years ago), running was actually a semi-regular part of my life for about 1.5 years. I had just graduated with a degree in exercise biology and (nerd alert) thought it’d be cool to be able to track my progress and calculate my maximal/target heart rates and all that goodness since I was going to be running a half marathon, so I got myself a heart rate monitor to keep track of what I was doing. I had the Polar FT4, which I used for most of my runs until I moved across the country for grad school and lost all my running buddies.
Somewhere between all the moving, my Polar FT4 ran out of batteries and I also stopped running, but…I somewhat recently decided to pick it back up again, because I am currently living a rather nomadic lifestyle, and running is one of the most portable hobbies I can do at the moment! (Note to self: don’t go from zero cardio to a technical 10 miles without building up to it.)
I was contacted by BeetsBlu a couple weeks ago about reviewing their heart rate monitor. Since my heart rate monitor is ~3000 miles away in some unknown location, I was game to try it out!
BeetsBlu Heart Rate Monitor
You can download the BeetsBlu app (see below) for free from iTunes, or you can pair it with another app. I am a creature of habit, and back when I used to run, I used to use MapMyRun, so I checked that out with it, and it worked well!
I figured it’d do me some good to also check out the app associated with it too though!
You can see your heart rate, heart rate zones, history, set your age + weight, and also input your resting heart rate, or set it to only show your fat burning activity, so I thought that was pretty cool!
Pros
- Lightweight, comfortable + easy to use
- Variety of compatible apps on iPhone 6
- As far as HRMs go, it’s very affordable
Cons
- If you’re a hardcore runner/endurance athlete and looking for something more high-tech, this might not have all the features that you’d want, but for me at my current state, it works!
- (I currently cannot speak for the durability and the battery life since I’ve only had it for a couple weeks, but…so far, so good!)
Check out BeetsBlu on social media!

Love using heart rate monitors for training! Such a great way to really analyze your training!

Yes indeed! :D!
Looks like a good option – I use a basic Fitbit Zip which just shows a mostly accurate step and mileage count, nothing about heart rate or pace!

I had a fitbit, but somewhere between all the moving, I don’t remember where the battery went! x_x
I have a heart rate monitor with my ancient gps watch, but I’ve never actually used it! Lame!

hehe, I feel ya! Sometimes I’m too lazy and don’t want to have to add to my fitness routine, even if it’s just one step more. (The struggle is real…)
I keep hearing about this beats thing! I need to check it out already.

It’s pretty darn awesome! :D
I’m a firm believer that some foods taste better in mason jars. Smoothies, overnight oats, chia pudding. I use a heart rate monitor for all cardio and HIIT workouts.

Oh, I definitely agree! :D
HIIT workouts would be awesome to track with a heart rate monitor! :]
Those mason jar recipes look awesome! YUMMERS!!!! And, I have been wanting to try out a heart rate monitor for so long. That one looks really good, and I like the apps. I remember when I first got my GPS running watch, and how it changed my fitness with running. Although I am scared, I know tracking my heart rate could be a game-changer for my fitness. Ooooo de lolly! Thanks for the inspiration! : ) #fitfamlove

Thanks! <3 I think tracking my heart rate helped me with my running consistency back when I used to--hopefully this'll help me to start it up again and keep at it! ;P
I never really use a heart rate monitor – unless I grab on to the rails of the machine at the gym…… But this beets blu looks very interesting and I got me a new phone so…. Time to download – ALL THE APPS! lol!

This sounds really interesting, Farrah! I’ve used a heart rate monitor for some time, but then it kinda stopped working. The strawberry chia pudding looks so delicious!! :-)

Thanks so much! :] I’ve kinda been missing my old heart rate monitor, so this one popped up at a rather wonderful time!
I use the HRM that came with my Garmin but I recently got headphones that have an in-ear HRM and I just need to pair it with an app. Thanks for the reminder! This looks neat.
