Guess who’s the new secretary for my school’s ACOFP (family medicine club)?! :D
I’m really excited. :] I hope we can do more in terms of volunteering and working with people in the community. I know having a free clinic here isn’t realistic, but I think doing blood pressure clinics, screenings and more on preventative medicine/patient education on ways to modify dietary and lifestyle habits would be rather helpful.
We also got our peer evaluations back today. I’m actually really flattered by the stuff my group wrote about me. :O They seem to think that I have my shit together, and I think I was actually the one most critical of myself. (I guess that tends to always be the case though. My friends call it modesty. I call it honest self-reflection.)
I apparently tend to second-guess myself a lot (this is the main contributing factor as to my overall shittiness as a test taker :[ ) and they’ve basically all picked up on this. hah hah hah… I guess I’ll need to work on changing that. Dr. Bridges said that some people were very, very brutally honest on this, so I’m pretty happy that I managed to escape unscathed.
“What is the single most valuable contribution this person makes to your team?”
- “Farrah is always well prepared and takes the time to explain questions when the rest of the group is unsure when she is very well knowledgeable in the question’s answer. This allows the group as a whole to be more trusting of each other and allows us to work well together.”
- “She is always able to come up with what she believes is the answer to the question and prompt questions that help discuss whether her answer is correct or not. If she gets the question wrong she is able to understand the explanations of others in the group and then respond to the comments that are made with her own knowledge from studying.”
- “Very friendly and can explain answers in a helpful way without making us feel like we are stupid.”
- “Farrah is a good listener and tries to understand other peoples’ argument.”
- “knows her stuff. tends to be right on the most controversial questions.”
- “Farrah provides useful insight from what she has studied and is able to verbalize and explain correct answers fairly well.”
“What is the single most important way this person could alter his or her behavior to more effectively help your team?”
- “I would like to see Farrah exert herself more. She seems to know her information well, but second guesses herself more often than not, which in my opinion hinders the group because there has been a time or two when she had stated the correct answer, but wasn’t more vocal about it and the team went with a majority answer and was wrong. This I feel would make the team function more cohesively.”
- “Sometimes she is quiet and allows for other to discuss the question, even if she knows the correct answer. Sometimes she should speak up more in order for her opinion to be heard.”
- “Nothing really – maybe just fight for your answers a little more because you always understand the material!”
- “I don’t see any significant changes that need to be made per say. As a group, I think we do a good job in making sure everyone is comfortable enough to speak up if they need more time or if they don’t understand something. Everyone brings something different to the table and we work very well together. It’s true that a lot of the times, the same few people lead the group discussions, but I don’t see anything wrong with that because the quieter people will also speak up if something doesn’t seem accurate. In a way, I feel that we complement each other. For instance, some people like to work at a faster pace and speed through the questions, but then others will ask them to slow down. To me, it feels like everything balances out. It’s also nice that we have strengths in different areas; this helps a lot during the TRATs. And, I think we’re so successful because everyone puts in the effort and works well with everyone else. I really can’t think of anything I would want “changed”, our differences really make up the group dynamics and we balance out well. It would be odd to have a group where everyone is the same and that probably wouldn’t be beneficial. Everyone is professional, friendly and positive! I’m glad to be working together with everyone and I couldn’t have asked for a better team! Thanks!”
- “this one time in particular sticks out to me when you were right about an answer most of us didn’t know but you backed down and 2nd guessed yourself. I know it happens to all of us from time to time we doubt what we know but trust the logic behind your method and maybe by explaining your thought process to the rest of us we just might learn something ;)”
- “Farrah could speak up a little more during group discussions, other than that she is a great peer!”
It’s gotten a hell of a lot colder in the past couple days (as in, snowed nonstop yesterday and made shoveling the ice and snow off my car this morning before the quiz full of all kinds of fun; I was clearly not made for cold weather living; brown adipose tissue, where art thou?!). I was (unrealistically) hoping that winter would just bypass us, but that was definitely just completely wishful thinking. I think we get a low of 10 degrees next week. Good thing my space heater arrived the other day.
I stocked up on groceries today. $16 bought me…
- 1 bag of blue corn tortilla chips
- 1 bag of golden delicious apples
- 1 bunch of bananas
- 3 carbmaster yogurts
- 1 loaf of honey oat bread
- 2 packs of guacamole w/o weird crap added into it
- 1 container of wheatberry salad
- 1 container of fresh mozzarella balls
I also finally filled Cordelia up again. I love her, but access to her gas tank sucks complete butt in the cold (aka it freezes over and the button doesn’t work, so I have to pry it open with keys and cringe every time because I don’t want to scratch her up). I’m trying to average almost a tank of gas each month ($50/month for transportation doesn’t seem too steep, although I have to say, I really miss living in Davis and being able to bike everywhere). Winter hibernation, commence!
