Welcome to Week 5 of the Spring 2024 One Room Challenge! If you’ve never heard of this, it’s a bi-annual challenge that takes place every spring + fall. Participants pick a room to transform + share their progress throughout the course of 8 weeks followed by a reveal on week 8!
One Room Challenge: Home Office/Hobby Room (Week 5)
Goals
What I thought I’d be doing:
- Week 1: Intro
- Week 2: Decluttering the world (+ before photos)
- Week 3:
Organize bookshelves/tea shelf + fix up reading area - Week 4:
Organize craft space + cable management - Week 5: Organize bookshelves/tea shelf, fix up reading area + organize craft space/cable management
- Week 6: Lighting + wall decor
- Week 7: Painting + tea trolley revamp
- Week 8: The Reveal!
I ended up missing weeks 3 and 4 due to…work (still hanging by a few threads lately but really hoping things will improve soon). A few of my patients recently told me that they specifically chose me because they felt the older doctors were more likely to be burnt out. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that age sadly has nothing to do with it and I too am very burnt out. :[
But, in the spirit of celebrating what progress I have managed to make, here are some of the mini-upgrades as of late!
- All my books (including all the library-sale finds + Little Free Library finds) = shelved!
- Yay for utilization of my pegboard for organization! I also put up 3 prints from previous travels! On the left is Toketee Falls in Oregon, middle is from part of the Point Lobos Loop Trail (this is also the photo that won me a free annual California State Parks pass!), and the right is from my Rae Lakes backpacking trip! :]
- Tea shelf is less of a mess than it was — I still need to get drinkin’, but at least there’s some form of rhyme or reason (at least to me) for where everything is now…
- Although I said I wasn’t going to buy anything new, butttt I scored a lot of nice coupons from Michaels that essentially made this cart and its accessories a grand total of…$30. The color is “Dusty Blue,” although it looks more like the Mint in this photo.
- Almost done with one of my koi lanterns! I still need to decorate the other side, add the head, and put in the LED lights but…yay for progress!
- Have you fallen behind on your room challenge/project at all? I like to think I can’t be the only one…
- Do you have any home projects you’re working on?

Thanks have added Togetee Falls to our Oregon trip this summer.
Not just doctors are burned out, patients are too! Our health care is broken in the USA, too much money going to insurance companies and office workers. Medical insurance used to be like car insurance- everyone bought their own. It was affordable and the competitive market kept costs down. It went sour when corporations wanted to add medical insurance as a perk and got Congress to make the expense tax deductible.
It should not be linked to employment.
Love your posts, missed you Week 3 and 4.
