Worst Habits + Favorite Things

11/08: Worst Habits

    • Being impatient with my family
This is what needs the most work. :[
    • Always-always-always having food in my mind
I wonder if I'd qualify as having a compulsive eating disorder... :x

      I wonder if I’d qualify as having a compulsive eating disorder… :x

…and speaking of food-related things, have you entered my Venice Kitchen Silicone Baking Cups giveaway yet? :D?!

    • Trying to do everything
I’m wayyy better than I used to be about this though, and I’ve learned to multi-task and say no!

(But what if I really identify with this!?)

(But what if I really identify with this!?)

  • Talking myself out of the correct answer on tests
    Yeah, don’t do that. Self-doubt sucks. :/
  • Talking about how I’m feeling

11/09: Best Physical Feature

  • …Well, considering that my butt has inspired my friends to give it its own name…I guess I can’t very well pick any other body part, right? :O

11/10: Few of My Favorite Things

Please Save A Cat | facebook
So while we’re on the subject of volunteering…if you’ve been here for a while, you probably know that this charity is very, very near and dear to me. I started volunteering here back in the spring of 2013, shortly after I started volunteering at Friends For Life, Inc. (a local dog sanctuary in town). I actually moved in and lived here for a couple months last spring/summer. People never know how to react when I tell them I’ve been living at a cat shelter.Linda is one of the most awesome ladies I’ve ever known, and I’m honestly blessed to have her as a friend.

She’s kinda adopted me as the daughter she’s never had, and is honestly like a second mom to me. <3 We have over 80 cats, 4 dogs, a ferret, and (most recently,) 5 guinea fowl! <3 She has a full-time job on top of taking care of all of this awesomeness each day (they get their litter boxes and water changed twice a day), and when the shelter is not at max capacity, she’ll go to neighboring shelters to adopt cats that have run out of time. She also takes in pets for deployed military personnel, so they’ll know that their pets are receiving lots of love and care until they return. :]

While I was still living in the area, I’d try to go in at least on the weekends to help out whenever I could. If you’re not already supporting a charity when/if you purchase things on Amazon, please consider shopping through smile.amazon.com, and choose Please Save A Cat (Maxwelton, WV) as your charity to support!

Ethel & Farrah

This is Ethel, one of the resident “circus cats!” (She can leap through the air and land perfectly to perch on your shoulder…so long as you don’t move and mess up her careful calculations.)

  • Music
Music Performance was one of my majors in undergrad, and for a time, I actually did consider pursuing it as a career…but then I started my internship at PHAC and completely fell in love with working with all the patients there. I also didn’t want to make a career out of my favorite hobby, because I didn’t want to risk losing my passion for music from depending on it to pay the bills.
  • Food
(…Does that really even need to be said?)
  • Margaery Tyrell or Daenerys Targaryen’s hairstyles

    Margaery Tyrell

While I’m at it, I also really like her dress.

  • Writing
Fun Fact: This blog has over 800 entries, and is not the first online journal I’ve ever had!
(I kept paper journals and a [couple] livejournal[s] for a decade before moving over to wordpress.)
  • You can probably tell from my Pinterest that I have a thing for…all things blue, pretty dresses (even though I never have reason to wear em’), knee-high boots, and cute workout clothes
  • Pyrography
I discovered this back in 8th grade woodshop! <3 (In other words, I burned in that chocobo below is from 12 years ago.) The flower and the turtle (“honu!”) are more recent, mostly because I found a random wooden box and decided it was too plain. :O

11/11: Outfit of the Day

So this one’s kinda hilarious to me because if it were socially acceptable to do so in my [future] profession, I would totally live in t-shirts/tanks and yoga pants/sweats. My idea of dressing up these days is if I’m wearing jeans. That being said, I tried to look slightly more put together the other day for church, and as I was heading back up to my apartment, one of my neighbors told me I looked really cute, and that she’d seen me around before and that I was already dressed really well.

My mind did an instant flashback of my outfits for the past month. I’ve been exclusively wearing scrubs or sweats/t-shirts since I’m on my ER rotation right now, and I was gone for the previous month for my rotations. What could she possibly be referring to? :O For the record, I stole all my scrubs (the stethoscope too) from my mom. Her favorite color is purple, in case you were wondering. :O

I also can’t button the last button on my white coat because I have a billion things in my pocket, har har har.

OOTD

Princess Muffin's back!

Look who’s back! <3

  1. I need to work on my patience with my family too! It’s a hard one!
    Pyrography…that is so cool!

    1. It really is! I always end up feeling so guilty because they’re arguably the ones that deserve it the least. D: I’ve gotten better in that I now actually apologize for being a terrible person though? ._. Baby steps.

  2. Patience is for sure something that I need to work on. I always get stressed out on being late for something. I love volunteering as well! In high school (when I had more time) I would volunteer at a dog shelter and walk dogs every Saturday morning with one of my best friends! It was always a great time especially since I love dogs! I’ve never heard of the charity to help save cats but I’ll for sure have to look into that!

    1. Same here! I’ve kinda been terrible about that lately because I live really close to the hospital. (There’s some kind of correlation between how close you are to something, and how long it takes you to actually get out the door. I think it’s the false sense of security. ._.)

That’s awesome! :] When I was growing up, I wanted to volunteer at the local animal shelter for the longest time, but they had a minimum age requirement of 16. …and when I finally turned 16, they change it to 18. Broke my heart. :'( I guess I’m making up for all of that now! :P

  3. Booties, cats, scrubs, and bad habits. Love this post!

Holy crap, I hella forgot about livejournal, haha. I’m so glad I deleted mine, though. Talk about cringeworthy. The only thing I miss were my short stories, though. Those were fun to do.

    1. I feel ya. I made all my early posts private because my junior high posts were frighteningly cringe-worthy, and I didn’t want anyone else to be able to see that, hahaha. The only plus about those is that I get to look at how far I’ve gone since then. Silver linings!

  4. I don’t think that loving food is a bad habit! I love love love food! It’s an awesome habit :-) But as far as bad habits go…being impatient! I’ve been checking the website for Tough Mudder (obsessively) daily (sevral times a day) for the pictures from the event (even though they said they wouldn’t be ready until Friday! I also did this the week before said event for the course map. Patience is NOT a virtue I have.

Now that I’m into running, I go for comfort. I used to dress up and wear heels, but now they’re just so uncomfortable! On my days off, I can be found lounging in one of my race shirts and yoga pants :-)

Favorite things: Mud runs, writing, reading, surfing the internet for random crap to keep me entertained, social networking, basically I’m an introverted extrovert!

    1. I’m glad you think that way too! :P I feel like my love for food impedes on my life sometimes, hahaha. I think I have patience only for a very select group of things. (Mostly animals and cute grandparents.)

I feel you on the race pictures! I was like that with these pictures I took with one of the Marines’ kids at an event I did last year. He was absolutely adorable, and was my biggest fan ever, so I really wanted a picture of that, but alas! :[ (That’s another reason why I was really bummed out about the event being cancelled this year. :[ I was hoping I could get a picture on my own camera, haha.) SIGH.

I totally agree with you on the comfort. I’m really not looking forward to the end of my ER rotation because it means no more wearing what’s essentially pj’s to work. Noooo!

I like that term! I’m somewhat like that too! :P I feel like I need to do a mud run at some point in my life (or an obstacle course race), just because it looks like a lot of fun. :] I can’t wait to read about your experience with Tough Mudder! I hope I can do that sometime (perhaps after I’m done with med school ._.).

  5. Too funny. I love and relate to bad habits #2 and #3. My husband jokes with me at breakfast asking where we will eat lunch and dinner. Like you, I’m also getting better at the third item on your list. I have learned to say no and to delegate.

    1. haha, that’s me! :] I plan my meals throughout the day while I’m eating my first meal (or uh, the night before :x ). Learning to say no and delegating work has definitely been monumentally helpful!

  6. I may also have compulsive eating disorder…when I am hangry food is the only cure, haha!
Annmarie recently posted…Gambling with an Injury: All In or Play It Safe?My Profile

    1. haha, definitely! I think it’s also partially because of this cold weather that I feel the need to constantly be eating [to stay warm?]. Perhaps it’s for winter hibernation. :x

  7. Oh yes…patience is such a hard one. And girl…I think about food 24/7 too!

    1. I like to think that as long as I’ve at least recognized it as a problem, I’ll have room to improve from there!

Glad to know I’m not the only one!

Those monthly questions seems like fun. I’m also a little bored, so I wanna answer those three:

What’s one of your worst habits?
-Procrastination. I would love to do anything else that is not something important. Is that a work project? Darn does craiglist look like fun to browse on. Room a mess? Start playing that game you haven’t played that’s not suddenly really interesting. Want to play that game you bought hella cheap on Steam and it seems sorta interesting? Reddit.

What are some of your favorite things?
-Sushi. Oh, should I keep going? Alright. I certainly like to drive. A small windy road, a convertible roadster, preferably a female co-pilot, and some clear skies. Also Doritos, sporadic walks, and sleeping in.

When choosing clothes, do you go for style or comfort?
-Both, actually. I usually go with a comfortable polo and some proper fitting slacks. I also go with casual sneakers for the most part, but since I started work in San Bruno, I haven’t walked as often, so I might go for a bit more style.

    1. hahaha, aren’t they? :P They kinda remind me of the surveys I used to do in LJ! I’m doing another couple questions/prompts today! Your procrastination one sounds a lot like the “scumbag brain” meme, hahaha. I’m like that too, although I have not ventured into the world of Reddit (mostly because I’d likely be sucked in and it’s a bad idea because I already have enough things to distract me from school).

Sushi is effing awesome. *-* I also miss sleeping in.

I’m really going to miss getting to wear scrubs every day. :'( What is this having to dress up and look professional madness?

Reddit isn’t bad, but I’m having a hard time remembering how I used the Internet before it, haha. Still way better than 4chan.

This professional thing is still weird to me. I’ll eventually change to button ups, but that’s after I defeat my stomach fat once and for all.

        1. I lose a whole lot of time on imgur and on blogs in general, so I dunno, man. ._. I’m not sure how I ever functioned anymore without Google search. I should probably go on a technology ban at some point just to cleanse myself of this dependency issue.

sighh. I’m not looking forward to next week for solely that reason (of having to dress up and all that goodness). Maybe I’ll finally actually be warm though!
