After the joy that was this winter (do you know how many patients I had coming in with worsening eczema? :'( ), I’d like to put that shiz behind me and move onto happier things, like warmer weather, and convincing my skin that it is a-okay to be alive and happy again! (Alright, I’m exaggerating. My skin didn’t completely hate on me but that dryness really was not fun.)
I received 2 complimentary products in this post in exchange for an honest review. As always, all thoughts/opinions are mine and mine alone. If you use the affiliate links to make a discounted purchase, I receive referral points at no extra cost to you.
My Spring Skin Care Routine
Step 1: Cleanser
I’ve been using Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost line because the Alba Botanica cleanser I’d been using was possibly drying me out. (I should’ve thought about that before as it does have charcoal in it, so not sure what I was expecting! That being said, I’m surprised it took as long as it did to start drying my skin out–it may come to be more useful in the summer for me since it’s so humid here!).
I’ve been alternating between the cleansing gel and the gentle cleansing lotion and truth be told, can’t really tell the difference between them in terms of function/efficacy. Both live up to their name in being very gentle and hydrating cleansers and they’re very affordable (~$6-8). The only downside is that although hyaluronic acid is advertised as the key ingredient in this, it’s one of the last ingredients in the lineup. It still does its stated job as being a moisturizing cleanser and I like that it comes in a pump form (more hygienic)!
4/5, $6-8 at drugstores or $13.84 for a 3-pack on Amazon.
Step 2: Toner
This Good Things Deep Pore Cleanser + Toner Anti-Blemish in Fig + Wild Strawberry apparently lasts forever, so I’m still using this right now!
Step 3: Exfoliant
Now that my skin can handle it again, I’m back to the BHA (last product mentioned in the post) every 2-3 days or so!
Step 4: Ampoule
The MISSHA Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule is a less expensive dupe of Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (~half the cost). It contains bifida ferment lysate, which is supposed to help improve skin elasticity, as well as niacinamide, retinol, ferments, and hyaluronic acid–all ingredients that my rather dry skin tends to love. This ampoule has a ginormous list of ingredients, so I wasn’t sure if the small concentrations of each ingredient would be enough to be effective…but my skin seems to reallyyy love this! The bottle has a ring around the inner lip of the bottle top to prevent excess product from the outside of the dropper as it’s pulled out of the bottle–yay for smart packaging! I’ve been using ~2 drops per night–a little definitely goes a long way!
4.5/5, $36 on BeautySesh.
Step 5: Serum
Whether or not it’s “correct,” I kinda think of serums and essences as the same-ish thing. INNISFREE’s Jeju Lava Seawater Deep Essence is supposed to smooth/moisturize skin whilst having anti-aging benefits on the skin via botanical extracts from Jeju that are loaded with antioxidants to help prevent free radicals from aging the skin prematurely. I’ve been using it both as a daytime moisturizer and after the ampoule in my nighttime routine just to be extra nice to my skin. This is hydrating as well, and has a very faint scent that’s reminiscent of citrus(?). I think it serves its purpose as a moisturizer well, but can’t speak much for the anti-aging properties as of yet–I was asked if I was old enough to drink and people usually don’t believe me when I tell them how old I am, so you can interpret that however you’d like.
4/5, $35 on BeautySesh.
(If I feel like my skin still feels super dry after all this (winter was kinda crappy :[ ), I layer on Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel for even more hydration!)
Step 6: Eye Cream
I’m still using my Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb right now and lovin’ it! You can check out my review of it from my winter skin care routine post!
Step 7: Spot Treatment
Still using topical tretinoin for acne scars!
Step 8: Lip Balm
I may be using these MyLipStuff balms until the end of time, but the flavor I’m currently using is Horchata! :P

The Hydro Boost Water Gel sounds really refreshing. I don’t switch up my products a lot, but I should…I just don’t really have much of a skincare routine. I think I focus on it more over the summer so I’m not burning or drying out, etc. Thanks for the product ideas!

I don’t switch up toooo often unless I find something that hasn’t been working well or I run out of another! But I hope these help! I’ll probably be rollin’ one out for the summer too in a couple months! :P

My skincare routine is soap and genetics? I have a blemish spot treatment that I use when necessary, and moisturizer I always forget about (it’s probably expired by now….) And always lip balm, of course!

haha, that’s awesome! Those blemish spot treatments are gold! *-*

Thanks for the reviews.
I wear more sunscreen products in the summer/spring but that’s about it.
I’m definitely stepping it up in the sunscreen realm these days too!

The expensive Rodan + Field products I have purchased have gotten me through 2 very dry winters without getting dry skin. I hate to love F + F products because they are pricey, but I really think it works for me!

haha, I hate it when I find something I absolutely love that’s super expensive! :'( But yay that it worked so well for you over these past 2 winters!!

Thanks for the product reviews. I have dry skin year round so I’m always looking for any products that will help my skin retain water and looks refreshed.
I feel ya–my skin’s definitely on the dry side as well. I need to drink more water! ._.

I love spring and summer. I love feeling the new birth of plants and the warm weather coming. I love seeing the changes and I love being able to run outside and to plant my garden.
Agreed! I’d love spring a littttle bit more if not for the allergies, but hopefully they won’t come back and I can just enjoy! *-*

Sounds like an awesome skin care routine! I’ve been trying to step up my routine with serums and masks, but I get lazy.
I definitely get super lazy too, but part of my motivation lately has been that I need to use em’ up before they expire (and before I buy anything new)!

I don’t really change my skin care routine come spring. I love the warmer weather come spring.
I’m definitely loving the warmer weather too! <3

I do love spring, but I could do without the pollen.
I’m a fairly soap and water kind of girl. my skin is really sensitive and I can’t play too much with different products or I break out.

Me toooo. My car is covered in a layer of pollen right now. :[ Hoping that a rain will wash it off nicely, haha.
That makes sense! I’m glad they have so many options now for different skin types!

I mostly use Neutrogena products, but just cleanser, moisturizer and make-up. I never understood the purpose of toner, although I do have some!

I like using it especially for if I wore makeup or sunscreen–I feel like it helps to get the last of what my cleanser didn’t manage to take care of!

I’m a Cetaphil or CeraVe kinda gal. I recommend both to my patients all the time and you know what? Good stuff.
Cetaphil and CeraVe are both great! I recommend it to my patients all the time too, haha. (As does the dermatology office I’m at right now!)

I have extremely dry and mucho sensitive skin, so I have always had to use “better” products for my face. My skin is horribly dry in the winter, so I have to moisturize even more…which is why I LOVE summer because my skin actually has some moisture of its own!
I feel ya! Summer is definitely less terrible to my skin as well (also because I’m on the east coast instead of the west right now–helloooo humidity!)!

I’m always trying to find the right products for my skin, so I always find it interesting to read what other people are using. Thanks for sharing your products and routine!

Anytime! I’m always curious about different products so I figured I’d finally start writing about the ones I’ve tried (partially also so I can remember how much I liked different ones, since I have a tendency to like trying new things on my skin, haha).

my favorite part about spring is just being out more! and I tend to wear less makeup on my face because I’m not hiding winter anymore (I use an SPF daily but still get a few freckles when the sun hits my face). Admittedly I’m TERRIBLE when it comes to a skin care routine. When I was younger I used #allthethings and now that I’m older I’m just kind of “meh” about it all. Luckily I don’t have a lot of wrinkles and I don’t have a lot of scarring from acne when I was younger. I get a bit of dry skin around my nose (odd) but that’s it. So really, the only thing I change is foundation in late fall /winter less in spring/summer. Daily washing with a gentle cleanser, a daily moisturizer (whatever I have on hand or was given to me) and SPF 30.

Me too! I’m so glad the weather’s finally gotten better (for the most part)! I’ve been getting slightly better about using a daily SPF but definitely could use some more work on consistency. I tend to freckle too when the sun finds me, hehe.

I definitely change up my skincare routine with the seasons. In the winter my skin gets so much drier so I’m all about moisture rich products!

This sounds like a great line up of products for a very reasonable price. I haven’t changed up my skin care routine for awhile now, but since its working I don’t want to take any risks in messing with it.
