Music Inspiration For Your Power Playlist

It is cold as crap, you guys. :[ I woke up yesterday morning to find that it was 28 degrees and that my car had been iced over during the night. I didn’t feel like waiting for it to defrost and couldn’t really chisel it off my car, so I walked to the hospital. Yayuh.

In other news, I’m writing about last week’s theme of A Power Playlist, because I was super busy and didn’t manage to post last week, so here we are!)

Playlist is a little misleading because I listed a couple genres vs. actual specific songs, but…it was hard to decide, okay? :[ Hence, why this is music inspiration for your power playlist, if you want to get all technical.

Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

Back in the days of EXB, we did all sorts of crazy labs with us as the subjects. For the “bike-til-you-puke” test (aka Wingate test, which is used to measure your peak anaerobic power), I chose this as my motivational song! :o

Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey

Once upon a time (about 5 years ago), when I used to run, I decided to run the Nike Women’s Half, also known as the first and only half marathon (or really, any race) I’ve ever run. My goal was to finish it without dying (way to aim high, I know, but I was studying for the MCAT at the time, so cut me some slack). I don’t remember what mile I heard this on, but it helped me to push through!

nameonnikewall

Several of my facebook friends ran it over this past weekend, and it’s kinda actually making me wanna run it again, because it was a good race, even if I did murder my knees in the process. (Someday, I will get back to running…)

Name In Lights – Sarah Leichtenberg

I’ve talked before about how much I liked Make It Or Break It (still kinda sad that it got cancelled :[ )–the music from the show definitely played a part in that!

Symphonic Metal

I know this isn’t actually a song, so much as it is an entire genre of music, but…aside from songs with awesome piano and/or guitar instrumentals, it’s quite likely my favorite genre of music, so I’m throwing it on here. <3 My favorites are Nightwish and Within Temptation. but one of my newest finds = Fairyland!

Crushed & Created – Caitlyn Smith

Hey look! Another song I like from MIOBI! :O

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme – Dubstep NOW! UK

My friend plays this sometimes on her playlist for the group exercise classes she teaches at my base site’s hospital gym! :] I’m normally not the biggest fan of dubstep, but this is an exception!

You Better Believe – Max Morgan

So almost half this list is actually from the MIOBI soundtrack. I swear I didn’t plan it that way, but…I really like their music? This one has a pretty fun-lookin’ playground workout along with it! Good luck. (Bars were my nemesis.)

Instrumentals

…This is also more of a genre, but uh. Don’t hate. :] Some of my favorite artists include…Bond (e.g. Libertango), Escala (e.g. Finding Beauty), and William Joseph (e.g. Within).

RPG Battle Themes

The orchestral versions of my favorite games (e.g. almost anything from Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia…) make my ears happy (especially Mystic Quest’s Doom Castle!).

While we’re on the subject of instrumentals and RPGs, I also want to introduce Aivi Tran‘s music to you! :D She graduated from Davis as well, and is a pianist and composer who writes music for Cartoon Network (specifically, Steven Universe). I’m still super super sad that I couldn’t play for her senior recital, but I was swamped at the time (ladies and gents, my life) and didn’t think I’d be able to do it justice. imisspiano.

One More – Superchick

Make It Or Break It is also how I discovered the band, Superchick. This one’s one of my favorite songs by them! (Others include Beauty From Pain, Courage, and Stand In The Rain.)

  15. I can’t thank you enough for putting this together, with the vids and everything! And, my fave tunes are from movies I have seen – it allows me to visualize the movie while I workout, and since I am a visual person, that’s extremely powerful for me. Can’t wait to add them to my playlist, and gymnast floor routine music is some of my faves!!!! Squee. Take care Farrah! And the first pic? PRICELESS
