So I’m a week late in posting this, but life has been somewhat of a whirlwind lately, and this is the first weekend where I haven’t gone anywhere, soooo I finally get to catch up on life and tell you about last weekend! It’s going to be rather picture-heavy, because…whyyyy the hecks not!? (Linking up with Her Heartland Soul for Weekend Snapshots!)
One of my dearest friends from med school was getting married in Maryland, and for once, I could actually attend! I met her in my first year in med school, and we share a major love for food + dance. I picked out the perfect card last year, but in the midst of my moving all over the place, it is…somewhere…so I found another one. (<3)
I missed getting to hang out, dance, and do potlucks/go on food adventures with her since we weren’t in the same region last year, so I may or may not have stayed on this end of the country for my rotations in August so that I could go to her wdding, har har har. (Also because hello, Little League World Series + a super-awesome rotation!) She and her now-husband have one of the cutest how-we-met stories ever, and they’re absolutely adorable together!
I have a friend being a super-genius at Hopkins at the moment (aka doing research in Neuroscience), so I figured I’d make it a 2-in-1 trip and visit him as well, since we haven’t seen each other in years-ish. This involved a lengthy discussion:
So! I drove down to Maryland on Friday afternoon and brought him food because I get free Subway and because he was housing me and all that goodness.
He said that most people just bar-hopped for fun there, and we know how much of a fan I am of that…so I figured if we went, I’d find some entertainment if we trolled everyone by having him feed me the cheesiest pickup lines on the face of the planet. (After all, once upon a time, I got his number by parodying this lovely skit.)
In retrospect, I should have said yes to the pizza, because apparently, he meant from scratch and not of the boxed sort (darn!). We also didn’t end up going anywhere because there was so much life to catch up on.
The next morning, we walked to the farmer’s market and got breakfast at a little diner nearby, then went to hang out on the pier for a little while before walking back to his apartment so that I could drive off to Annapolis for my friend’s wedding!
I am unfortunately really short, so I couldn’t get very many super-awesome photos, but…I did what I could!
I didn’t make it to the after-party because I wanted to get back to Baltimore at a semi-decent hour. The friend I was staying with lives in a semi-safe(-ish?) area, but it’s a lot closer to the unsafe areas than I’m used to (considering that I’m grown somewhat accustomed to super-friendly small towns where it’s completely normal to leave everything unlocked).
We proceeded to continue “the bummiest weekend he’d ever had” (usually, he just works in the lab on the weekends too) and decided to have a mini-jam session. :D! This proved to be slightly difficult because our musical taste doesn’t overlap too much (sigh), but we did what we could, and hopefully I’ll learn more by next time. :]!
- Imagine Dragons – Demons
- Imagine Dragons – Radioactive
- OneRepublic – Counting Stars
- O Holy Night
- More Than Words
- Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
- Coldplay – Yellow
- Jack Johnson – Sitting Waiting Wishing
- Karen O – The Moon Song
I also really like just listening to him play, so here’s a stealth-recording of The Lumineers’ Stubborn Love, which has been looping in my head for the past several days! I like his version better than the original, haha.
- How was your weekend?
- What’s one of your favorite songs?

your friend and your texts are so funny ;) “Sammaruied” or however it’s spelt my heart was a classic – I loved the wedding photos and the theme, so glad you could be there for your friends special day! AS for the free subway, how do you do that? haha I’m so curious!

hahaha, our conversations over texts tend to be fairly ridiculous! I’m so glad I could be there too! :]!
The free Subway is because of the hospital I’m at right now! :D They feed me for free because they’re awesome! <3
So, are those photoshopped lightsabers or those sweet real fx lightsabers?
Author
hahaha, they are photoshopped, but they did have lightsabers later on at the reception! :P
Annapolis is such a cute area – PERFECT for a nautical theme! She looked beautiful, love that dress!

hahaha, I knowww. You can tell we were desperate to find songs that we both knew, huh? :x Although Christmas In July was just last month, so there’s that…
Love the details of this wedding–perfection for someone in the Navy. Everyone looked gorgeous but most importantly like they were having a fabulous time. That was our major goal–to get married to the right person, not break anything that wasn’t insured or have anyone get hurt, and then to have a freaking AWESOME time. Also, no traditional music.

Agreed! :D Getting married to the right person is definitely the most important goal, and the rest are great as well! :] I think a lot of people get really tied up with the whole wedding planning thing and go so overboard with it that they lose sight of the real reason behind it even happening. They played The Imperial March at the end, so I like to think that counts as not traditional music! :P
this is so much fun!!!!

Thanks, Julie! It was an awesome weekend! :]!
That wedding looks awesome. I love the hashtags- we got married 4 years ago and it’s so different now because that stuff wasn’t around as much then, I don’t even think we had pinterest? If so, no one much used it like now. So it’s fun seeing how weddings evolve. You look great and it looks like you had an amazing time too!

I have no idea when pinterest came around, but things have definitely changed a lot!! I’m thinking that if I ever find someone awesome enough to want to get married, I may just elope with him. The planning seems way too stressful! x_x
What a lovely wedding! I love the mini bottles of kraken – so cute!!!

What a beautiful wedding weekend! I remember you saying that it is hard for you to make it out to weddings while in med school; glad you were able to celebrate this one!

Thanks! :D It’s the first one I’ve been able to go to since med school started, so I’m super happy that I finally could make it out to one! :]
This sounds like the coolest time, the lightsaber photo made me do a double take! So glad that you were able to make it to their wedding! And your description of just hanging out and playing/listening to music with you friend makes me miss lazy times spent with good friends when you don’t have to be “on” and thinking about everything else going on in life. Those are good times. I miss my college buddies.

I miss that so much too! *-* I lived with my best friend for all 4 years of college and we added in two of our closest friends in our last year–those were the best times! <3
