Malibu Farm Sunrise to Sunset

It’s Foodie Friday! My friend gifted me this for my birthday (she is a wonderful soul :] ) a while back + I’m finally getting to writing about Malibu Farm Sunrise to Sunset! :D..

I received this book as a gift + as always, my thoughts/opinions are mine + mine alone, but if you click the affiliate link to buy this book, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you!

By Helene Henderson

Genre: Food/Cooking
Pages: 304
The theme of this cookbook’s recipes = simple, healthy, farm-to-table recipes. (Aka everything that I love. <3 ) Aside from the intro + a section on cooking rules, gratitude/appreciation, and an index, there are just 5 chapters total!
The author’s hopes/goals with this book are as simple and uncomplicated as the recipes — to inspire readers to cook more at home, without recipes, and with confidence. :]

Sunrise Breakfast

I am by no means a morning person, but ever since resolving to go to Brazilian jiu-jitsu regularly (ideally 2-3+x/week), I’ve forced myself to turn into one, if only because the class times that work the best for me (if I want it to be possible to do everything else) are at…6 a.m.

These recipes look refreshing and amazing. Acai breakfast bowls, coconut berry French toast, pumpkin pancakes + crispy oats, ABC (avocado bacon cheese) breakfast tacos, pytt i panna (smoked salmon hash), vegan veggie scramble…there’s  bound to be something you’ll enjoy here!

Vegan Chocolate Banana Pancakes

Midday Lunch

This section has recipes for things like vegetable crust pizzas (e.g. cauliflower or zucchini), chicken nacho tortilla salads, poke’viche, rainbow pearl couscous with romanesco, chopped lobster salad with yuzu dressing…

Summer Tomato Salad, “Beet It, Just Beet It,” & Colossal Carrots with Carrot Lime Dressing

Afternoon Fika

Swedish Fika = “the taking of coffee or tea with snacks (that can be sweet or savory).” I love the sound of that. :] This chapter includes recipes for vegan cashew coconut cherry ice cream, caffe latte ice cream, granola coconut carrot cake, fresh mint tea, pretty in pink cheesecake…

Saffron Lemon Crème Brûlée

Sunset Dinner

Looking for something to serve for dinner? There are recipes for carrot soup with roasted tomato coulis, spaghetti squash lasagna, monster sprouts (brussels!) with hot honey dip, the street corn wedge salad with lime-cilantro dressing, grilled salmon with miso tahini sauce, sweet corn polenta, twice as nice artichokes + artichoke aioli, chicken with grainy mustard-rosemary sauce, different seasoned butters…

Skål! After-Dinner Drinks and Snacks

I had to look up what skål meant, but apparently it’s “cheers” in Swedish (+ in older forms of Swedish, it was used to refer to drinking vessels)! I don’t drink alcohol, but there are a couple different drink recipes here, including how to make a mimosa rainbow flight + a recipe for coconut horchata!

Frozen Rosé Cocktail

Snacks are, of course, a must — creamy + crispy garbanzo bean dip, crispy garbanzo beans, Swedish-style chicken meatballs with “old-school” gravy, stoplight taco trio with tomatillo avocado salsa, caramel nuts popcorn, olive oil chocolate dipping sauce…

Sunrise to Sunset cookbook by Helene Anderson

I reviewed her first book, Malibu Farm Cookbook, several years back too! This smoked salmon ricotta scramble is inspired by one of the  recipes from that cookbook!

True to her word, the recipes here are simple to follow — the recipes do not often require more than 10 ingredients, with many of them only needing 5-8.

Each recipe in Sunrise to Sunset includes:

  • Ingredients
  • Instructions
  • Serving size
  • Tips/advice on different things (e.g. how to make it vegan, how to store ingredients for easier/quicker prep, different ingredient substitutes/alterations you can make, how to decrease clean-up time, etc.)
