Welcome to another Travel Tuesday! I’m taking you with me today on my very first hike (on the Ledges Trail!) at the very first national park I visited on my cross-country road trip–Cuyahoga Valley National Park!
Ledges Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Distance: 2.2 mile loop
Duration: 1-1.5 hours
Elevation: 105 ft
Difficulty: Easy
Admission: Free
Parking: Free
Trailhead Address: 41.223860, -81.510150
There’s a large parking area with a shelter (Ledges Shelter) located next to it. As you start the trail, you’ll come across a grove of hemlock trees.
I went counter-clockwise, but you can go either way! If you go left first (clockwise), you’ll come across the Ice Box Cave first, so named for how cool it is inside the cave. Unfortunately, it’s no longer open to hikers because so many bats were dying from White Nose Syndrome (a fungal infection)–limiting hikers prevents lethal spores from being tracked into the cave.
There are some steps and the trail does get a bit rocky every here and there, but all in all, it wasn’t too difficult. (NPS does rate the Ledges Trail as “moderate” though, and it isn’t wheelchair-accessible.
The Ledges Trail will bring you out to an overlook area, which I would absolutely share a photo of if I could find a good one in my camera (…)! I may have been too preoccupied with eating my lunch. But all the more reason to go visit, right?!
P.S. Please do not try to climb the rocks!
- Have you ever been to Cuyahoga Valley National Park? (Did you know there was a national park in Ohio?! :O )

Oh, that trail looks beautiful! So scenic and tranquil ;-)
It was super pretty there! :]
I’ve never been but it’s close enough that I definitely could make a weekend trip out of it. I just may have to do that, it looks like a beautiful hike.
Ooo, I hope you have a chance to go sometime! Check out Blue Hen Falls too if you like waterfalls! It’s pretty close to this trail. :]
Wow it looks so beautiful there. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us!
I wish I’d gotten to explore a little bit more, by a giant thunderstorm came by and kinda cut it short. Definitely better than nothing though!
No I have not been there. Looks like you really visited some beautiful spots this summer
There were definitely bunches of em! 🤩
I’ve never been there, but it looks absolutely beautiful! Shame about the bats :(.
Agreed :[ I really hope they’re doing better!

I love checking out new trails, this looks so beautiful!!
Same! I’m hoping to do a lot more exploring now that I’m done with residency!
I’ve never been there. Looks like such a great place to go. I love that the hike isn’t too difficult. Would be fun to take the kids.
It definitely seemed like a kid-friendly trail!
My husband and I decided that we’re going to try to get outdoors more this fall. This may be spot to visit. It looks gorgeous. Its 6 hours away from me. We may need to take a road trip.
Ooo, I hope you have fun! Looking forward to following along with you on your adventures if you end up writing about them! :]
What a great adventure! I miss hiking! We haven’t done any this year since we have the babies!
I did more this year than I have in my entire life, hahaha. (The road trip definitely helped with that!) You’ve been super busy so that’s definitely understandable!
It looks like a nice escape from reality!
Yes indeed! It’s nice getting to escape once in a while!
Nice Pics. I never thought there was a national park in Ohio. Reminds of some trails in Connecticut.
