Friday Favorites: 12/12

I’m linking up today with Friday Favorites & Fit & Fashionable Friday! Buttons are at the bottom if you’d like to check them out! :] Our theme for Foodie Friday this week is healthy hot beverages! With luck, I’ll be posting that somewhere this evening. I had a slight mishap with my apartment complex and was scalped for over $100 in unnecessary fees, so I am actually pretty dispirited right now. :[

This is my first time linking up with Friday Favorites, so I thought I’d include a mix of things I’ve always loved,  favorites from stuff that happened this week, and awesome finds!

  • Super comfortable workout clothes
I’m clearly in complete denial that it’s basically winter. (I guess it helps that I only really work out indoors…)Also, I’d just like to share that I actually really hate taking selfies (unless I have a cute animal around), but I especially hate taking them at the gym. It makes me feel like a total narcissist, and also like I’m just there to camwhore instead of actually working out. :[ Someone talk me out of this mentality please. :[
No Limits Tank & CaprisThat being said, I got that tank top from Chase Infinite last week and I love it! I ran my fastest mile to date in it the day I took this picture! The RBX capris were from Gabe’s, and I love the pattern on em’. :] I really wish I could just live in workout clothes. It’d make life so much easier!
  • Being fed free lunches for the past two weeks. The cardiology office has definitely been helping me to keep my grocery budget down! I got to order whatever I wanted, so I got to keep it healthy too! :]
    Free lunches
  • Tissues & cough drops with pep talks printed on the wrappers. Being sick sucks. My preceptor almost sent me home on Wednesday because I sounded like I was dying. ;_;
  • These articles on nutrition & healthier dietary habits! There’s a practical guide to eating healthy, eating healthy on a budget, grocery shopping tips, smart snacking…pre- and post-workout nutrition…good stuff!
  • Pictures of adorable pets growing up!

I did a spinoff with Ninja. (These two photos are 8.5 years apart!)

  •  Earning my first stripe in BJJ!
What with my super-wonderfully unpredictable rotation schedule, I don’t get to make it to classes as much as I would like (which would be twice a week for back-to-back TKD + BJJ classes). I missed a seminar with Rhalan Gracie last week because my preceptor for Cardiology is a magical human being who works for billions of hours on end. o_o His patients absolutely adore him though, and I can definitely see why. When I finally made it in again on Monday, Phil gave me a new belt and my very first stripe! <3 (In BJJ, stripes are kinda like an intra-belt recognition of your progress and skill.) I was completely shocked, but ecstatic! :] He told people to be nice to me, because I’d been sick last week, and we immediately moved on to positional sparring/mount escapes. I managed to not get murdered, and when we were rolling after class, I even managed to escape two arm bars and a couple mounts/chokes!I need to get a mouthguard though (+ learn to back down and tap out…). I forgot how we ended up the way we did, but I ended up landing on the side of my head while I was rolling with Brad. ‘Twas rather painful.

First BJJ Stripe!

  1. Yay for your first stripe! I remember earning those back in the day. I loved karate, and I was a little too good at sparring, if you know what I mean. I love love those capris, btw.

    1. :D! I think I’m developing a reallyyy terrible habit of never wanting to back down. My friend almost snapped my arm yesterday in an arm bar because I wouldn’t tap out. (I was still trying to worm my way out of it. ._.) sigh!

I was so, so happy that they were in my size! There was only one pair and it was for $15. I couldn’t not get them. <3

Ahh you make me want to go try BJJ again! I did a class once and it all just felt a little too scary for me (getting thrown around by big sweaty men…eek!) and congrats on your stripe!

    1. Thank you! :] It’s definitely a lot of fun, and people there tend to be really nice (at least in my experience). They should be able to tailor it to whatever level you happen to be!

For a while, I was always the only girl, so by default, I’d always be rolling with guys at least 50 lbs heavier than me. (Makes life a billion times easier when you actually roll with someone your size though!) They just practice their technique on me so it won’t be so unfair. :P

  2. That alcohol-free bar sounds really cool. And free lunches are AWESOME. Also, I feel so awkward when I try to take a selfie. I’m totally fine posing for someone else who is taking a picture but I get nervous pointing the camera at myself, haha!

    1. Same here! I never know where to look! At the camera? At the mirror? Oh, the choices. D: I’m fairly gifted at making awkward facial expressions, hahaha.

  3. Congrats on earning your first stripe! Love all your new workout tanks too! :D And look at you winning #allthethings ;)

    1. I have a tendency to judge myself when I do, haha. (e.g. “What are you, Farrah, a narcissist?! What are you doing?”)

  7. Congratulations on your stripe!!! We do use them as well in our karate school, but we have to actually go through grading exams. I think I’d prefer being handed it “out of the blue”. Next up is my black belt … somewhen in 2015.

    1. Thank you! :D I definitely love the “out of the blue” more so than testing for it. I feel like I’d get really nervous and just blank out. :x

I think I glimpsed somewhere in a comment you wrote that you won a competition? :D? Congrats! I hope you get your black belt soon! <3

  9. Congrats on your first stripe!! My boyfriend used to do it but hasn’t gone in a loooong time. Also, that cat you’re holding is adorable! I love cats but am unfortunately allergic to them :(

My favourite things this time of the year: hot drinks and comfy sweaters. Fave hot drinks: tea, hot apple cider (with not too much sugar), turmeric tea, and hot water with lemon! One of my accomplishments this week: staying mindful and positive!

    Have a great weekend, Farrah!

    1. Thank you! :] I had a 2-month long hiatus because I went home for a month and then had a self-induced crazy schedule in ER for another month. I’ve slowly been getting back into the swing of things though! :]

I’ve definitely been loving hot drinks and comfy clothes too, and hooray for staying mindful and postiive! :] I need to try making turmeric tea! :o

Hope you have a lovely weekend as well! <3

  10. A bar without alcohol would be amazing! I know most folks would think is crazy but I’m with you sista!! And being fed free lunch? Yes, please! I’m into hot chocolate this winter. Wouldn’t a chocolate beverage bar be awesome?! Hmmm this weeks accomplishment was just getting my butt out of bed!! ;-) have a super weekend!!!
