A Food Tour in Carmel

Welcome to Travel Tuesday! We’re taking a brief break from my road trip to go back to California for…a food tour in Carmel (aka one of my favorite places in the world)!

This was part of a bachelorette party weekend for one of my friends from high school! We met up the evening before to cook a delicious feast at an Airbnb near Monterey and woke up bright and early the next day for a hike. Sadly, Point Lobos had zero parking anywhere (we didn’t leave early enough), so instead, we trekked over to Carmel for the food tour!

We opted for the 3 hour one and booked our tickets in advance ($94 each). They advised us to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, since we’d be walking (not a whole ton, but still some walking around).

Carmel-by-the-Sea doesn’t actually have any addresses, so we met at the cultural center. During the walk, our local guide also showed us cool little hidden passageways in downtown Carmel + gave us great recommendations for other places to check out.

Our tour led us to…

  • Cultural Comida y Bebida (authentic Oaxacan-inspired cuisine prepared with farm-fresh ingredients!)
  • Lula’s Chocolates
  • Cafe Carmel (my goodness, the desserts here were amazing…)
  • Carmel Honey Company (raw unfiltered honey–this company was started up by a 16yo entrepreneur!)
  • La Balena (seasonal organic food served in the Tuscan tradition)
  • Trio Carmel (fancy olive oil + vinegar! <3)

The non-alcoholic drink option at Cultura Carmel! Prickly pear agua fresca!

Street tacos from Cultura Carmel!

Lots of olive oil + balsamic vinegar options at Trio Carmel!

Chocolate from Lula’s Chocolates!

We ended up going back to Cultura Carmel that evening for dinner! :]

Look at these amazing desserts! (Cafe Carmel)

It definitely provided enough food to make us all full (even me!)–we had so much delicious food! Carmel Food Tour was able to accommodate different food restrictions (e.g. I don’t drink alcohol or eat seafood-other-than-fish or pork). We had an amazing time! :]

I wanted to buy this, but by the time I went back, someone had already purchased it!

  1. How fun! I went on a food tour in December when I went to NYC. I’m sooo slacking on all of my travel posts, but I will be writing about it soon. It was a lot of fun though, and I want to try and do more of those in the future. That’s awesome they accommodated the fact that you don’t drink alcohol – I don’t either!
