Welcome to Travel Tuesdays! I’m taking you guys back to Scotland for a short hike in the Fairy Glen located in the Isle of Skye!
Exploring the Fairy Glen
The Fairy Glen is located over on the west side of Trotternish at Balnacnoc (“village or township in the hills”) right above Uig.
It’s mainly called the Fairy Glen because the appearance is so unusual with its scattered ponds, waterfalls, and unique geological formations. The Fairy Glen gives off a kinda whimsical + otherwordly feel–just the kind of place where you’d expect to find fairies!
(If you’ve ever wondered about my blog name, it’s because “fairy” is one of my [many] nicknames–probably due to the fact that it’s so similar to my given name!)
The Fairy Glen is actually still not super super well-known, so there aren’t really any signs that’ll direct you there. However, if you’re coming from Portree and head north on the A87 + turn right on the road before the Uig Hotel, you should find a windy single-track road that’ll bring you there.
There’s a giant rock spiral that looks especially awesome from up above, as well as a lot of manmade stone spirals–Skye locals often move the stones back each winter to try to keep the area in its more natural state). (Please exercise the same philosophy you’d use for hiking–leave no trace!)
As long as you’re not afraid of heights and/or a little climbing, the Fairy Glen offers a short walk aut spectacular views. :] It was a fun place to explore–make sure you climb up the rocky prominence (“Castle Ewan”–pictured above)!
Parking is super super super limited here, so come early, or you’ll have to park on the grass!

Ooh visiting Scotland would be fun to do someday. This really does have an otherworldly vibe and I love it. That little spiral is especially cool. I’m FINALLY going to be sharing things about my trip to London (like a year and a half ago at this point lol) on the blog. I’m aiming to start posting them in June and then throughout the summer.

Hello Travel Tuesdays!!! The Fairy Glen looks like a far far away land. had no idea Fairy is one of your nicknames. It fits you so well. I would love to seeing that Giant Rock Spiral up close and personal.

Wait! What is the fairy connection? It is also in your blog name and dog! I like where this is going!
Beautiful scenery, like a setting from Lord of the RIngs and Game of Thrones.
