It’s started snowing here and I am not a happy camper. (You’d think after the past 3 years of living in snowy terrains/mountains/coasts, I would’ve gotten used to this by now, but no. My spoiled-by-CA’s-sunny-weather runs way deeper than that. :'[
But enough with that. I bought 4 winter jackets earlier this year for $80, and I’ve finally snapped out of my denial and switched out my closet’s summer clothes to winter clothes. (sigh!) Hopefully, I’ll be a-okay!
Also…GIVEAWAY WINNERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED! I’m sorry that it took me awhile to go through the entries, but all the winners have been emailed! (Please check your spam folder just in case my email happens to find its way there!) I tried hunting down everyone I could on twitter and everything! If there is no response with 48 hours, I’ll have to get rafflecopter to choose new winners! :O
This year, I’m joining in on Elf 4 Health for the first time! :D
Elf For Health great way to meet new people over the holidays, and to motivate each other to stay on track with fitness + healthy eating (especially because the holidays are pretty much the best/most prevalent time to fall off the edge). You can choose to participate alone or as an Elf! There are prizes involved!
The deadline to sign up for the first round is this upcoming Friday, at 11:59 p.m. EST! (Here are the daily challenges!)
In other news, I’m also covering Days #16-18 for the November Blog Challenge! Feel free to link up below if you’re also participating in it!
11/16: Proudest Moment
I think I have ridiculously high standards for myself, so even when I accomplish something awesome, I always feel like I could do better. It’s good for the whole continual self-improvement philosophy, but perhaps not so wonderful for self-satisfaction. If it were a period of my life, I would say it was my last two years of undergrad. When I look back on everything I was doing, I don’t know anymore how I managed to do it all anymore, but maybe that’s just because I’ve burnt out.
That being said, however, if I had to narrow it down to a single moment in my life, I would say that it’s when I found out I got accepted into medical school. :]
11/17: Meaning Behind My Blog Name
“Fairy” is in fact one of my nicknames (but was modified to “Farrie” by a family friend), but burgers are not my favorite food. (I love em’ and all, but they don’t hold a candle to salmon sashimi.) But here’s the thing! Because it’s super unique, I never had issues with fighting for my own domain name! :D?!
For those of you that have ever wondered, “fairyburger” is one of my brother’s [many] nicknames for me. I’ve chosen to embrace it. It’s random enough that I can talk about anything and everything under the sun and it’ll still technically be pertinent to my blog, because it’s still a reflection of me. This is especially helpful because I have a frightening amount of interests, none of which I intend to let go of anytime soon.
Other nicknames I’ve been christened with include:
- Black Hole (I eat a lot)
- Superwoman (I do a lot of things)
- Eiffel tower (I have a pointy head :[ )
- Ferret (sounds like my name and doubled as my science camp counselor nature name, because I’d actually answer to it)
- Double F (my initials), Ferrari (also sounds like my name)
- [Asian] [jumbo] shrimp (I have a small-ish frame, kindasorta lift a lot, and I’m Asian)
11/18: My Collections
-CD’s
I know these are technically considered to be archaic by today’s standards, but I have a pretty impressive collection of CD’s back at home-home. I love almost all genres of music (other than rap, which I don’t consider to be real music), but I especially like symphonic metal, songs I can sing to, the Romantic period for classical music, and anything with awesome piano/guitar parts in em’.
-Quotes/Conversations
I didn’t include conversations because there are enough quotes here. My friends and I grew up with a whole lot of snark and friendly abuse banter; it adds to the fun!
- “How did that happen? You didn’t even punch me that hard. You must have a lot of chakra.”
- “I’m going to have an interesting time with this decade report thing for history. Mainly because my group acts like a bunch of stoners minus the actual pot. We spent a good hour singing about the special olympics, superheroes, and decrepit fathers, devouring chocolate-covered nuts and fruits, throwing grapes, and just laughing at asinine things. Just wait until we start drawing comics about Hitler. Good times.”
- “Farrah has the JLo butt of Asian girls.”
- “She’s an internet vampire. She eats kilobytes and drains the life out of your computer while she’s talking to you online. That’s why your computer always crashes.”
- “Farrah is the kind of student that teachers would want to build a relationship with. Some students, you just teach and then it’s over with; we all move on. With Farrah, you want to continue talking to her and getting to know her.”
- “Hey Farrah, are you interested in dying? …I mean, dinner?”
- “I’ll be nice. Just don’t tempt me. Aka don’t be yourself.”
- “Try not to do anything anymore that will make the heaven cry. I want it to be sunny these few days.”
- “In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have told her, but it was fun watching her face fall fifty floors.”
-Memories
Along those same lines, I’ve been keeping journals for about 15 years, both on and offline.
- What’s one of your proudest moments?
- If you have a blog, how did you choose your name?
- What do you like to stockpile?

I had to wear my winter coat for the first time today :( Not a happy camper!
(I love that you’re called the black hole! Be proud of that one!)

I had to break it out last week (probably only because I’m weaksauce, but still), but for serious! I’m not happy either. Warm weather, please come back!
That’s definitely one of the nicknames that I’m especially proud of! :P
Despite growing up in the northeast, I’m still never prepared for winter! Today is the first *really* cold day and I’m staying in as much as possible! Good for you for joining the Elf 4 Health challenge! Good luck!

I’m definitely with you there on the staying in! Hot teas and soups + blanket huddles are making life a little better. :P
Thank you! Honestly, I don’t know how much free time I’m going to have, but it sounds like such a fun idea. :D I’ll do the best I can!
I did the Elf 4 Health challenge last year and it was SO fun! I wish I had more time this year to do it :(

I wish I’d known about it last year! I was quite the antisocial blogger until earlier this year, but better late than never!
I’m not really sure how much free time I’m going to have, but it seems like such a fun concept, I don’t want to miss out on it!
Ah! Love being in your link up!! Such a fun blog challenge and I’m soo happy you showed it to me! It’s soo much fun! I also collect quotes! I have an inspiration board on my computer that I made with the stickies app! I also have a huge Pinterest board of quotes!!

I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I like the prompts a lot! :] I’ve been toying with the idea of making an inspiration board, but have yet to actually start on it. :x I did recently start a quotes board on Pinterest though! :]
What a great post :) I chose my blog name based off my soon to be initials :) Thank you for sharing!

Makes sense! :D! That’s what I did with my very first blog! (Before I ever moved to wordpress, hehe.) Thank you for stopping by! :]
Going back up to the very top of the post, where you talking about it snowing…
Yet another reason to do one of your rotations in San Diego! It’s been getting down to a chilly (just kidding) 55* at night, but has been close to 80* everyday!

Soooo jealous! I’d love to do a rotation there! There’s a program with a sports medicine fellowship that I think would be rather awesome to rotate at, if they’ll take me in! <3
If they do and it works out with my schedule, I will likely just suck it up and find a place to sublet/rent for a month, haha. SD is beautiful. <3
OMG SO WITH YOU on the rap thing – I don’t find it at all surprising that “rap” is pretty much just a shorter version of “crap”, and I’m amazed at the “rap industry.” I listen to A LOT of genres, but this rap stuff? Just keep it away. So glad I’m not the only one!
I’m super sad I missed your giveaway though… :(

YES. <3 So true, haha. People keep trying to tell me to give it a chance, but nope. I really just can't. It's not music so much as it is an assailment of my eardrums and general well-being. :[
Aww, I'm sorry! :[ I'm in the process of working on putting together another promotion for them! Will keep you posted if it works out? :D?
That is the second time I’ve heard about this Elf Health challenge today. Sounds like an awesome way to stay accountable during all the hustle and bustle (and treats) this year.
Also, I loved getting to find out the meaning behind your blog name. I found it difficult to come up with a name too, and after a couple months changed mine to the name I have now. Fairyburger is quite the unique nickname!

It sounds like a really fun concept, and I’m notorious for going on mass food binges over the holidays, so this will probably be really good for me! :P
haha, yeah! My brother’s a creative one. I love the name you came up with for your blog! :] It’s super clever!
I completely agree with you on the proudest moments. I always feel like I could do better. I hate it. And or fluent hello that I don’t get compliments or positive feedback. :-\
And I’ve also had a diary/journal for 15 years! So cool. It’s always embarrassing to go back to read.
Author
Same here! :[ I feel like because of that, I never truly appreciate how hard I worked for something, but at the same time, that continual drive to improve myself is there, so it’s a tradeoff of sorts!
hahaha, I definitely agree with you there too! I like the consistency, but my earlier journal entries are just…very cringeworthy. I like to think of how far I’ve come since then though? :P
What’s one of your proudest moments?
-I think the one that stands out the most was the first time I coached football. We took the the league championship and we obliterated every team. I felt that I was part of a coaching staff that knew exactly what was going on and we all clicked together. At the last game, when the clock finally struck zero, we all got the gatorade bath because we knew that league championship was ours.
If you have a blog, how did you choose your name?
-I’ve been using cggtr for a long time now. The cg actually stands for childish gambino. Back in ’99, I took an online test for “What would your Wu-Tang Clan name be?” and I got that. Fast forward a decade later and Donald Glover has the same story, but he’s an accomplished rapper with the name. So I got rid of the only thing that had that name, my livejournal account.
The GTR comes from two things. One, the Skyline GTR is a famous Japanese car. It’s also known as “Godzilla.” The other pert comes from being inspired by GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) where I took the name GTR (Great Teacher Ricardo) when I thought I was going to become a teacher.
What do you like to stockpile?
-Recently? Steam games (those steam sales are really cheap). And downloading tv shows I need to watch. Also supplements. Maybe Ghirardelli Chocolate.
Author
That’s awesome! I’ve never coached a sport, but have always had super tremendous respect for people who do. It takes a lot of work and really knowing the team well! :o
haha, I unfortunately have half a bilion different blogs floating out there in cyberspace, but I guess they all work out, one way or another. Thanks for explaining your username, haha. I never thought to ask what it stood for. :P
Hoorayyyy for TV shows! I’ve been stockpiling those lately too, but whether or not I’ll ever have a chance to watch any of them remains to be seen. :x
We were surprised we only lost one game that season. On top of that, we won by an average of 30 points. It was a mixture of getting the kids to believe in the system we had in place as well as getting them to really focus on wanting to correct themselves each week. And let me tell you, telling a bunch of 15-16 year old boys to focus is easier said than done, haha.
Author
hahaha, for sure! I was a science camp counselor in high school and early on in college and got a cabin of 18 11-12 year old girls to take care of. That in itself was already a handful! :o
