Welcome to Foodie Friday! I’m linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl + Jess from Hello To Fit to create awesome healthy recipes each week! We’re doing another throwback theme–Copycat Recipes, so I made a copycat Orange Julius smoothie!
Neurosurgery hours last week were pretty unintentionally brutal (I’m doing the rotation for interest vs. as a sub-internship), and I’m fairly convinced that neurosurgeons never sleep, but I’ll get to that in a different post!
For now, we’re just going to celebrate a small victory: the fact that I actually managed to make a new recipe for Foodie Friday this week! (It’s crazy-simple and quick, but aren’t those the best types of recipes anyway?)
I haven’t had an actual Orange Julius in a while, but I decided to try to make it healthier–this tastes just like an orange creamsicle, so if that’s something you enjoy…read on! (If you’re not a fan, you can skip to the bottom for other things I wrote this week, or check out the related links for other copycat recipes? <3 )
I think I erred on the side of more milk than orange (oops), so if you want it more orange-y, adjust the orange:milk ratio accordingly!
Copycat Orange Julius Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup orange juice (or juice from 2 oranges)
- ~1/2 cup your choice of milk (I used vanilla soy)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tsp Nektar Naturals honey crystals
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth!

Will you get actual Orange Julius and compare?

No time to go out, haha, and I think the real one is a little too sweet for my liking!
Mmmmm, I haven’t had one of those in a long time, I used to love going to Orange Julius!

Same! I used to always get a banana split to split (haha) with my mom at the mall! :]
I haven’t had an Orange Julius in ages– this looks just as yummy, and much better for you!

I cut down the sweeteners by a ton because I’m not as big of a fan of supersuper sweet things, hehehe. :D!
Oooo! I have a story about these! So I was a Latin nerd in high school and in Latin club and we would do Orange Julius sales to raise money! Hahaha! Except….since I don’t do dairy….I never actually had one myself :P

That’s so cool, hahaha. :D We did Jamba Juice and chocolate sales back in high school! :P
Can you believe I’ve never had an orange julius smoothie?! Guess I will have to give yours a try! :)

hahaha, we’ll have to trade! I’ve actually never had a shamrock shake! :P
When i was growing up, the only connection that I had to Orange Julius was the SNL skits! I don’t like creamsicles, so I’m not sure about them, but I would be willing to think about it.

I didn’t know about SNL until somewhere in college, I think. (I was banned from TV at a very young age. ._.) I think I used to not like creamsicles too, but I’m not sure why–I definitely like em’ more now! :P
I have always been a fan of orange julius. I think the only way I would slightly alter this recipe is add some ice and greek yogurt to make it more of a smoothie consistency. Perfect for Summers!

Ahh! That’s what I meant to mention! (This lack of sleep is getting to me, ahaha. x_x) We never use ice at home and I was out of greek yogurt, but those would be great additions! Off to edit my post, hehehe.
Delicious smoothie! I am a fan of anything orange:)

Me too! Yay for citrus flavors! <3
I haven’t had a real Orange Julius in so long, either, but my mom used to make a killer copycat version using frozen orange juice concentrate. Now that I’ve seen yours, I don’t think I’ll be able to get it out of my head. Thanks for the recipe!

I was actually originally going to use that since we almost always have some in the freezer, but it was nowhere to be found, so I had to improvise! That would’ve been super tasty too! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have an awesome weekend!
What a delicious looking drink! I haven’t had one in years but my favorite thing from Dairy Queen was always a Chocolate Extreme Blizzard. Super delish! If I could copycat any recipe it would probably be these delicious cheese sticks from a local pizza place. They are soooo good!
Author
I need to try making their blizzards! :O
If you ever do try making those cheese sticks, please share the recipe! :D! They sound delicious!
Oh yes please! I worked there for a couple days as a teenager and they were so good! I’m going to have to whip one up! Happy Foodie Friday!

Oh Dairy Queen! I used to love their peanut buster parfaits! I don’t think I’ve ever had an orange Julius before- I’ll have to give your version a try!

I have not had Orange Julius in so long! We have one in our mall sharing with a pretzel place, but I just never think to stop. But, like you, the real one is a little sweet now and I would prefer a tamed down version. Orange creamsicles are the best. Ever had the Dreamsicles or orange creamsicle ice cream bars by Mayfield? UGH! SO GOOD!

It’s been ages for me too–the only one I know of is also at our local mall! :O
….I need to go get an orange creamsicle now, haha. Random cravings! *-*
Yes, please – that looks amazing. I actually have a few oranges that I might need to go juice to try this. Orange creamsicle for the win!
