Family Springtime Celebrations: Easter is April 1. Passover begins March 30. Whether or not you are celebrating either holiday, show us your favorite family recipes for springtime celebrations.
(This post was originally published on 1/20/14!) Yesterday was technically the first day of spring but apparently we’re under what’s considered a state emergency in terms of the weather and all the state offices are closed…which means that for the second time ever since the start of residency, I get to have a snow day!! :O! (I’ve worked every single one prior to this.)
I’ve been over winter though before it even started though, so as happy as I am to have a snow day to catch up on life, I’m also very much ready for warmer weather so I can start my outdoor explorations again. *-*
I had something like this back in October while I was in San Diego [many years ago] and have been wanting to recreate it ever since. When I went home over break, I managed to locate acai smoothie packs at the local Sprouts (I am in love with that store; I think I’ve become a total hipster in terms of food. sigh.), so I got creative with whatever we already had at home.
This was my first attempt and I probably added way too much coconut water (it’s so expensive outside of Asian markets ;_; ). I believe this shall improve with time though! :O

This looks so good. I feel like I’m completely addicted to coconut at the moment, so I’ll definitely be trying this out. Thanks! X
I hope you like it! I adore coconut and my mom recently sent me a care package with more smoothie packs (yay! :D!) so I’m definitely going to be experimenting with making more acai bowls soon! :]
Love all the fruit goodness in there! Acai bowls are so good

Oh, this looks yummy with all the berries in there! I have never seem acai smoothie packs in the store…are they very common?
They’re not super super common but health food stores (e.g. Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and the like) tend to have them! <3!

Hi Farrah! I used to make Acai Bowls all the time but somehow I stopped, you just inspired me to get back on the Acai Bowl train. Enjoy your snow day! I wonder if the hospitals get busier during storms. I love the addition of black berries, and clementine :)
Thanks! It was definitely a nice break! :] (+ yay for fresh fruits!)
They can sometimes, but it does also tend to cut it down to just the actually-necessary ED trips!

Acai bowls are almost always too pretty to eat! You did a great job and I’m sure, with time, you’ll get it just how you want :)

I’ve never had Acai before- can you believe it?! Ha! It is a fruit though and sadly that’s a no-go with me. But this bowl certainly looks like a quick and healthy alternative to other snacks one could have!! :)

I’m not a fan of all the snow, but I am definitely a fan of acai bowls! It took me a while to figure out the right liquid ratio – you’ll get it soon too!

yay snow day for you! my mom is a nurse and all growing up she always always had to trek to work – no matter what – as far as the smoothie bowl – I have SEEN acai packets but am uncertain IF I would like them – it’s a fruit, but I am unsure of the flavor….but I AM OVER WINTER WEATHER TOO – hang in there :)

Yeah, that essential personnel status is rough! x_x (My mom’s a nurse too! <3!)
I wish I could describe the overall taste to you, but I've only ever had it mixed in with other fruits, so I'm actually not sure what it tastes like on its own, haha.
