It’s the last day to enter our ginormous Choctoberfest giveaway, so make sure you do that before checking out the rest of this post!
I got a giant bundle of awesome goodies from Just Hemp Foods somewhere over the week. (If you recall, I’m currently technically homeless, but my friend is graciously letting me use her address to receive mail and packages, so I didn’t see this til Friday night.)
Look for Just Hemp Foods at your local grocery store or on Amazon, and connect with them on social media!

Saturday was Taste Of Our Town (TOOT), so I went back to Lewisburg to help out with the Please Save A Cat booth. We had healthy, homemade treats for the pets…
…and sold out of those in under an hour. :O Linda made 3 different varieties (sweet potato, salmon, mackerel), and they were definitely super popular!
We served Hot Mama’s White Bean Chicken Chili and grilled chicken strips (regular, BBQ, or buffalo) for the humans!
If you haven’t heard my spiel for Please Save A Cat yet, it’s a no-kill cat rescue that feeds and houses 86 cats.
We run on donations, and Linda goes to local animal shelters to take in cats whose due dates are coming up, as well as strays, and pets of deployed military personnel, so that they’ll have someone to look after their pets while they’re off overseas.
If you’d like to donate, or want to send in cat food/litter, warming mats, cat beds, etc., every cent helps! I’ve been volunteering here for the past 2.5 years, and can personally attest to the amount of love that these cuties receive! <3
While I’m on the subject of animal rescues, I’d also like to bring some attention to one of our Choctoberfest sponsors, Rescue Chocolate!
They’re an artisan chocolate company that donates all proceeds towards animal rescues, and they have allll sorts of different flavors, from peanut butter to peppermint, or even [fake] bacon! All their chocolate is 100% vegan and kosher. Here’s a list of the rescues they’ve helped thus far!
If you are in need of some eye candy along with that, they also have a Tails of RescueMen Calendar (with 2 bars of chocolate) available. There are few things that melt my heart more so than cute guys with their dogs (or cats <3). (My newest favorite IG discovery is @dudesandpups; don’tjudgeme.)
Connect with Rescue Chocolate on social media!

All that was also partially to explain why I didn’t have another recipe to share til today! But here it is! A super quick and easy protein smoothie to jump-start your morning!
Chocolate Hemp Cherry-Berry Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup chocolate non-dairy milk
- 1/4 cup frozen cherries
- 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 tbsp Just Hemp Foods 50% Hemp Protein Powder
- 2 tbsp vanilla Greek yogurt (optional)
- 2-3 tsp Just Hemp Foods hulled hemp seeds
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients other than the hemp seeds and blend until smooth.
- Top with hulled hemp seeds and enjoy!
- Have you ever tried Just Hemp Foods?
- Are there any no-kill shelters or animal rescues around you? I originally started volunteering at Please Save A Cat because if I helped out at a kill shelter, I’d end up bringing all of them home with me.
- Have you heard of Rescue Chocolate? They make vegan, organic chocolate and 100% of their proceeds go to animal rescues!

Agreed! :D!
Love rescues! Glad you did well at the booth with the treats. Pet lovers love to give their furry babies treats. :)
I’m going to check out the chocolate company, I’m a vegan and being able to help animals while getting vegan sweets sounds like a win win!
The smoothie sounds yummy, I’ll have to make it soon with some chocolate almond milk.
