Welcome to Travel Tuesday! I think the first time I ever happened upon Chihuly’s works of art was when I was in Las Vegas during a weekend day trip with another medical student I’d befriended.
Chihuly Garden and Glass
Address: 305 Harrison St, Seattle, WA 98109
General Admission: $32 for ages 13-64*
Hours: 10am – 7pm (but double-check as there may be changes in hours in the wintertime!)
*There are discounts if you’re a King County resident, senior, or youth, and it’s free for kids 4 and under.
The Chihuly Garden and Glass is an exhibit that showcases the works of Dale Chihuly, a local artist to the Pacific Northwest (born in Tacoma, just ~34 miles away from Seattle).
It opened back in 2012 and features 8 different galleries as well as a centerpiece glasshouse as well as a garden. Overall, it’s a bit on the smaller side. If you take the time to read more about the different displays, though you can expect to spend 1-2 hours here.
There is a glassblowing presentation/demonstration that periodically occurs outside throughout the day outside and is run out of a trailer. If you get hungry, they also have an outdoor cafe!
Tips:
If it’s your first time in Seattle and you’re staying for a few days/love museums, aquariums, etc., you might want to consider the Seattle CityPASS! It’s $109 and includes admission to the Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, + 3 of the following:
- Argosy Cruises (1 hr Harbor Tour)
- Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP)
- Woodland Park Zoo
- Chihuly Garden & Glass
(I haven’t purchased one of these before. It seems like a convenient way to save some money + knock out several things if you’d planned on going to some of these already though!)
If you only have time for a couple things, you can do a package deal for both the Space Needle and here for $57 (somewhat cheaper if you’re a senior or a kid under 13, free if 4 and under)! They’re literally located right next to each other so you only need to park once!
- Have you ever been to an art exhibit?
- Have you ever seen any of Chihuly’s works?

This glass garden is gorgeous! I’ve actually never seen anyone do glass blowing. I am curious about it. I wonder how long these pieces take to make?
I hope they are partitioned off. I’d be so nervous about knocking it all down. I’d have to hold my bag real close. 😂
Thank you for sharing! I’ve never been to Seattle. One day I have to go!
I have no idea how long those huge pieces made but the vase we saw them do was pretty quick!
Oh, you are absolutely not alone. I was so, so scared I’d turn and knock something over, haha. I definitely held my bag close and kept a distance. (There are some partition-y things but I’m a klutz, so anything’s possible! :'( )
I hope you get to go sometime!! :]
The garden with the glass works is really beautiful! I didn’t know about this artist and it’s work is so original! Moreover it must be very difficult to work with glass! Thanks for letting me discover it!
Thanks for checking it out! It was really cool to get to explore — I didn’t know this could be done with glass!
It sounds really beautiful. I’ve never been to Seattle, but I’d like to go at some point. I will need to keep this article in mind.
Aww, yay! I hope you get to go sometime to visit! :]

We were so glad we got to the Chihuly Garden and Glass when we were in Settle. The burst of colours and artistry were stunning. I will have to check out the Seattle CityPass the next time we visit. Some new things there we have not done yet. And we could certainly enjoy a return Chihuly visit!
Aww, yay! That’s awesome that you’ve been there too! I’d love to go back to Seattle too–there’s a lot I haven’t gotten to do yet!
Wow that is so gorgeous! I love colored glass and I would definitely want to go to one of the glass blowing demonstrations that they have there. Thank you for telling us about things that are kind of off the beaten path in Seattle!
Ooo, you’d love it here then! It was really cool to check out all the displays. :] Hoping to find more cool spots soon!

I’ve visited Seattle so many times and STILL not visited Chihuly Garden! I’m gutted that I haven’t visited yet because it looks so beautiful! I’m definitely going to be there on my next visit! Thanks for the great guide!
Aww, I hope you get to go there during your next visit! :]!
This place looks so cool! I have never been to Seattle, but I will add it to my list :) Thank you for sharing.
I hope you get to go sometime! It’s a fun city! :D
Chihuly’s work is amazing. I visited the gardens years ago and found it a highlight of my stay in Seattle. I was also amused by his ‘collections’ on display in the on-site restaurant.

Chihuly is one of my favorite artists! I’ve seen pieces of his work in Seattle and Tacoma but I’ve yet to visit this garden and exhibit. Last summer I visited his huge exhibit in Oklahoma City that was so impressive. Adding this to my list when I’m in Seattle next!
Ooo, that’s cool! I’ve yet to visit Oklahoma City but hopefully one of these days! Hope you have fun when/if you go! :]
So gorgeous! I loved seeing the Chihuly Garden exhibit in Denver. Thanks for sharing this information!
Ooo, I didn’t know there was one in Denver–I missed it while I was there!
Chihuly glass is so cool isn’t it! I have seen some of their works before, but I think I always like them best when they are surrounded by nature- like that blue glass in the gardens. Love it.
You always find the best things to visit Farrah!
