Banana Mango Oatmeal

Welcome to our weekly Foodie Friday link up! I’m linking up with Montana from Pretty Lil Mudder, Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama, Emily from Whatever Floats Your Oats, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl, and Cassandra from Powered By Bling, to create awesome healthy recipes each week! Today’s theme = Oatmeal! Make sure you hop around to check out all the amazing recipes in this link up and feel free to add your recipes as well!

Welcome to my mornings.

Welcome to my mornings. ;_;

Because I’m also linking up Friday Favorites (Housewife Glamour, Running 4 Cupcakes, + Fitting It All In), I’m going to digress a whole bunch and talk about some things that are currently keeping my life rather peachy before I get to the actual recipe:

  1. Fuzzy Socks – Before I moved out here, I was incapable of sleeping with socks on. In the winter months, this has now pretty much become a necessity, and I’ve accumulated a pretty wonderful collection of fuzzy socks in the past couple years! :O
    fuzzysocks
  2. Space Heater – This is pretty much my best friend right now. I’ve established a new blanket hovel in my apartment, and while it’s not as cozy as my old one because this apartment doesn’t have a tiny room that I can enclose myself in, I believe it’ll still do the trick! My first-year study buddy/neighbor suggested this Lasko 5812 Automatic Air-Flow Heater with Temperature-Regulation System (affiliate link!) to me back in the day, and this thing is full of all sorts of awesomeness. (Namely, it gets the job done, and quickly.)Much as I adore actually having a bed once more, I’ve been somewhat tempted to start sleeping on the floor again, because this would mean warmth from said space heater.

My super-cozy blanket hovel from my old apartment!

It turns off automatically if it’s accidentally tipped over, which is especially wonderful if you happen to have curious pets, or prefer sleep next to it but have a tendency to flail your limbs while dreaming. (I’m just the former, I think.) It’s wonderful for warming your feet if you’re sitting at a desk, and for warming the rest of you if you like to lie on your stomach while working on the computer like I do.

At under $40, it’s pretty affordable and much cheaper than warming up the entire house/apartment. I’ve fallen asleep a couple times with it on and have had no problems with it thus far. Two-ish years and still going strong! The cord is also heavier and more durable, so if you’re a klutz like me and happen to trip over things on a daily basis, this space heater will not give up on you. <3

    Meet my best friend! <3

  3. Hot Tea – I remember reading Rebecca’s post on Winter Teas and I gotta say, hot tea is probably one of the few things that make me more likely to be okay with winter. Green tea, peppermint tea and chai are probably my favorite teas out there! Rachel recently sent me a super awesome Trader Joe’s care package because she knows I don’t have a nearby one out here. <3 (Having a Trader Joe’s is kinda on my future relocation criteria. >_>)
I'm so excited to try these!

I’m so excited to try these!

  4. Candles – I love fruity-smelling candles! This one in particular is Cranberry Mandarin, but I also have a Fuzzy Navel one from Bee Natural (obtained from when I went to Philly!) and an amazing Red Hibiscus candle that’s a combination of passionfruit, guava and hibiscus. *-* So basically everything I love rolled into a candle. :D
Here's my Cranberry Mandarin candle! <3

Here’s my Cranberry Mandarin candle! <3

  5. Oatmeal: Especially fitting since that’s this week’s Foodie Friday theme! ;P

A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to win Susie’s flash giveaway and as a result, I received 8 different flavors of Big Slice Apples packets!! <3 I can’t wait to dream up different recipes for each of them! (Although, not gonna lie, there is a very real chance that the convenience of said packages will make me just bring packets with me to work along with a bag of granola for an instant meal option!)

As I am currently landlocked and full of cold (just in case you couldn’t tell from my list of likes up above), I figured I’d go with a tropical-ish theme, so I can feel marginally better about not being able to hang out on a warm sunny beach somewhere. :O I actually caved and turned on my heat for the first time a couple days ago. ;_;

I unfortunately don’t ever have passionfruit or guava on hand (sigh), but mangoes are lovely! The sliced bananas I meant to add in here are unfortunately un-pictured because I’m a genius and awesome at life. (I forgot about them and dug in before I realized what I’d done.) It was still good though. I’d advise you to add the sliced bananas though because yay for fruit!

Be sure to check out some of my past oatmeal recipes down at the bottom of this post! (Will this post never end!?!)

    1. I am pretty much glued next to said space heater and my foster kitty all week. :x (I don’t know how she feels about my sudden clinginess, but she has been hanging out closer to me these days!)

      Thanks again! <3

  3. Most of your favorites are the same ones I’m loving now too!! We have a tiny heater we’ve been using more this winter, especially after cold runs. If I could attach it to me, I would! Happy New Year!

    1. hehehe, I’m so glad I recently remembered that my space heater existed. I would totally attach mine to me too if it were possible (and socially acceptable! :P )!

  4. Ugh. Being sick is NO fun, just getting over a nasty cold myself. Hope you feel better! Love the oatmeal recipe- I still have that packet of Big Slice, definitely going to make this!

I adore them for making so many awesome flavors! <3

    1. hehehe, I ran out recently, so I had to go get more! Hot oatmeal is my favorite breakfast go-to in the winter!

  7. Yum. The tea looks cozy too!

    1. Thanks! I’m so excited about them! :D!

  8. Yum!! The oatmeal sounds amazing!! I eat oatmeal practically everyday, and I always love looking for new ways to spice it up! This looks so good! Have a wonderful friday and a great weekend! :)

    1. I hope you like it! I think I’ll very likely be defaulting to a billion different oatmeal recipes over the next couple months because few other things warm up my soul this well! :P

  9. Happy Friday Farrah! This oatmeal sounds perfect! The one cold weather item that I refuse to give up since moving from NY to FL are my fuzzy socks- they’re just too comfy! Nice collection :)

    1. Happy Friday! :D! Do you perchance want some cold? I’d gladly trade you some right now! :'(

I’m with you though! I’d still love my fuzzy sock collection in California! :]

  10. I always wanted to try a good space heater to see if it would knock down our electric bill some. It gets so expensive to try and heat the entire house and doesn’t make much sense when 1 room isn’t used much at all PLUS the master bathroom really only gets used at night before bed. So this might be a good option. Love the oatmeal! My 2 favorite fruits! :)

    1. It is glorious! You should definitely look into one! :D I’ve also started using it to warm up my clothes before I put em’ on in the morning! (And I turn it on when I get out of the shower so I won’t feel like I’ll freeze to death if I want to put on lotion before PJ-ing it up!)

Yay! Banana and mango are two of my favorites as well! :]

  11. Okay so first off I got STOCKED UP on all the new fuzzy warm socks this Christmas! My whole top drawer is now over stuffed with socks (yes I do have a sock obsession!)
Second…omg YESSSSSSSSSSS! TEA! After my 30oz of coffee in the morning, I make sure I just stick to tea the rest of the day. The Candy Cane Lane is so good right! I have it everyday! It is just so glorious!
And…omg, yes oatmeal! There really is just something about oatmeal comfort that is always so welcomeing!

    1. Yeahhhh fuzzy socks unite! My mom gave me several pairs last year in preparation for the polar vortex. <3 <3 I love socks as well, and...not to enable you more ,but have you ever been to www.sockdreams.com? :O

Anyway. >_> Hells yes, Candy Cane Lane! I may or may not have done a happy dance when I opened the box. <3!

Oatmeal is keeping my soul warm and alive right now. WHYISITSOCOLD. :x At least it does the trick though!

  12. Space heaters and fuzzy socks are the best things ever! Oh, and HUGE blankets! I always keep the heat in my apartment fairly low to save money, so those 3 things are a must!
Hannah @CleanEatingVeggieGirl recently posted…My 2015 Bucket ListMy Profile

    1. Same here! I actually never turned on my heat until yesterday (finally caved :'( that’s when I remembered I had my space heater and broke that out too), so I’ve definitely been wandering around my apartment in ginormous blankets, hot beverages and fuzzy socks. <3

  13. Oh my drool! That oatmeal recipe is going down SOON!

  14. Fuzzy socks are the best! Seriously, socks are the most underrated gift ever. This oatmeal sounds delicious- I especially love having oatmeal in the winter because it’s so cold. And tea is a must for me! I always keep a tumbler/mug with me so I can have it on the go, too. Happy new year, Farrah!

    1. Agreed! Since I don’t have a dresser, I only recently realized that I have a pretty formidable sock collection. But at least I’m warm-ish? :x

Hot oatmeal is my favorite go-to breakfast in the winter! :] I may have to start experimenting with baked oatmeals again soon!

Happy new year to you too! <3 Hope you have a great weekend!

  15. That mango and apple oatmeal looks so tasty – both flavors I really enjoy. Definitely pinned to try!

    1. I liked it a lot (especially because it took all of 5 minutes to make! :D ); I hope you’ll enjoy it too! :]

      Have a great weekend!

  16. Fuzzy socks!!!! Nothing better than how cozy they make you feel. You know I’m not the biggest oatmeal fan, but this oatmeal actually looks delicious….you might actually get me to eat a bowl of oatmeal, Farrah! Happy New Year!

    1. Agreed! <3 Fuzzy socks make my life so much cozier. :]

Sorry about the oatmeal-ing, har har, but January is supposedly National Oatmeal Month, so I figured we should perhaps do something with that. :P I love what you did with your recipe! :]

  17. Now this looks like a yummy nutritious recipe I can enjoy! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hope you like it! :D It was super easy to make (thankfully)!

      Have a great weekend!

  18. Yum! This oatmeal looks delicious!!

    1. Thank you! It was indeed! :D

  19. First, that oatmeal looks SO dreamily delicious. I am excited to make it! Also wanted to mention I love your fuzzy sock collection! Where do you usually get them?

    1. Thank you! :D I hope you like it! :]

I adore it as well! I wish I could tell you where they all came from, but I think most, if not all of them were actually gifts from people.

My mom sent me back here with a bunch in preparation for the polar vortex (for which I am eternally grateful), and I know she got a lot of them from a Daiso store near our house! There’s also one pair in there from Old Navy. :O

  20. This oatmeal looks so good!

Also, since your Friday Favorites seem to be centered on how to stay warm during the winter months, I highly recommend flannel sheets if you don’t have them already! I left mine at my mom’s house in Connecticut, and I’m glad I did (she won’t turn the heat above 58*, even when it was in the 20s while I was back there for Thanksgiving)!
Gloria recently posted…The Obligatory New Year’s Resolutions Post – 2015My Profile

    1. Thank you! :D I will definitely look into that! I don’t have flannel anything, but I am apparently cut from the same cloth, because my recent caving in and turning on the heat basically consisted of keeping it at a baseline of 58 degrees. :x

  21. Space heaters were my lifesaver in Winter…too bad it’s Summer now.

I’m proud you managed to be able to put dried mango in your oatmeal….mine barely lasts by the time I leave the store!

    1. Enjoyyyy your summer! I’m going to have to live vicariously through you for another couple months (sigh ;_; ).

I was so surprised that I still had any left! I think it’s because I hide bags of it in different boxes/cabinets so that I forget about it for a little while, and one day when I’m rooting around, it pops out as a pleasant surprise!

  22. That oatmeal looks amazing – I would have never thought of that combination!

    1. Haha, don’t worry! I thought I was being all original when I came up with Medical Mondays, but I was all sorts of wrong. :x I like to think that great minds think alike. :D!
