Welcome to our weekly Foodie Friday link up! I’m linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama, Emily from Whatever Floats Your Oats, Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl, and Cassandra from Powered By Bling, to create awesome healthy recipes each week!
Today’s theme = Dairy-Free! Make sure you hop around to check out all the amazing recipes in this link up and feel free to add your recipes as well!
In anticipation of the fact that I will likely be without an address and/or kitchen for the next year or so, please realize that most if not all my Foodie Friday posts from uh, now through December (yes, December 2015) were all made in April and May when I was attempting a kitchen cleanse (aka using up everything in my pantry/kitchen so moving wouldn’ t be such a pain)! The “schedule post” feature is a wonderful thing.
The base recipe only takes 5 ingredients, and is ready in 5 minutes or less! I didn’t use protein powder, although you can definitely throw some in (add more milk!) if you want to punched in the face with more protein!
But why am I calling it a protein bowl if there’s no protein powder?
I had some tofu I needed to use up, so I decided to throw it into the oatmeal!
Don’t give me that face! Hear me out!
Tofu is essentially flavorless, and takes on the flavor of whatever the hecks you throw in with it. I’ve used it in smoothies (e.g. Strawberry Pineapple Tofu Smoothie) and desserts before (Pumpkin Tofu Mousse) and they’ve always gone over really well with people! :O Hell, I’ve even thrown it into lasagna (Pumpkin Tofu Lasagna) before. :O
Adding tofu made this a lot fluffier and creamier than usual oatmeal. I’ve talked before about how I’ll sometimes throw in an egg for fluffier oatmeal (e.g. Kahlua & Cream Oatmeal)…this is essentially the same concept!
Obviously, if you have any kind of allergy to soy products…don’t try this. :O Or sub out what you can! If you want simple, I can give you simple…
But wait! What if you want to kick it up a notch!?
Simple! Just go to town on the toppings! :D Sky’s the limit!
I used Big Slice Cinnamon French Toast, sliced strawberries, dried cranberries, unsweetened coconut flakes and hemp hearts on mine! No extra sweeteners were used because I think the fruit does a great job on that. :O

Such a good idea! I’m struggling to try and simultaneously eat less animal protein AND less protein powder but still get enough protein and BAM. Tofu!
Oh but I kind of wish I didn’t read that bit about birthing babies before breakfast (alliteration ftw)…

My apologies on that part! :x I forgot that I was including that at the end of a recipe post. I’m terrible at not mentioning terrible dinner conversation topics these days!
I don’t really eat tofu but I LOVE how creative you got with it! I would have never thought to put it in oatmeal- I bet it tastes delicious!

I would have never thought to put tofu in my oats, but I am SO intrigued! A great way to bump up the protein without any powders. Love it!

Yepyep! I still have a ton of protein powder left that I haven’t consumed yet, but I figured a change of pace couldn’t hurt! :]
Wow, this is such a novel idea to me, but I LOVE tofu, so maybe I will try this out – I usually have lots of tofu in the fridge! Thanks for sharing the recipe!!

I miss tofu. I’m not allowed to have it anymore. I used it in so many recipes. This sounds like it would be so creamy.

Darn! :[ I wonder if there’s an equivalent-ish ingredient out there that would work as a substitute! :O
We get through a 10-pound bag of oats each month over here, so yeah more oat recipes please! I think I’m always the last person to join the linkup. I usually need to wait till my husband gets home to get some computer time. And now I’m waiting for the photos to load up….
