Welcome to Foodie Friday! I’ll be linking up with Annmarie from the Fit Foodie Mama + Esther from Chocolate Runner Girl–this week’s theme = Kitchen Cleanse! I’ll be sharing a recipe for…4 Ingredient Campfire Donuts today!!
If you’ve ever noticed that I haven’t ever shared a recipe that involves frying anything…well, it’s because I don’t know how to. But that changed recently when I went camping a couple weekends ago with my friend! We made donuts over a campfire with just 3 ingredients!!
I got to break out my cast iron Dutch oven (at long last)! I’ve been looking for excuses and reasons to use it more, so what better way to start it off than with this super simple recipe?!
You also don’t actually have to cook these over a campfire–over the stove would be perfectly fine, but we happened to be camping in Ithaca so WHY NOT. <3 This recipe makes 40 mini donuts and we may or may not have finished most of them within the span of…less than 1.5 days. Let’s just say they’re slightly addicting, shall we? (I’m probably going to attempt to make these in other flavors soon…)
Two cans of biscuit dough cost all of $1.38–I’m fairly certain that this means I’ll never buy donuts again (not that I really ever did to begin with, but still!)
4-Ingredient Campfire Donuts
4-Ingredient Campfire Donuts
Equipment
- Dutch oven
Ingredients
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- 2 cans of refrigerated biscuits 10 in each
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Mix the cinnamon and sugar together in a large ziploc bag and shake to mix.
- Heat oil until little bubbles start forming and it's just about to boil. Pull apart each biscuit in half and roll into 2 round dough circles, poking a hole into each.
- Deep fry the donut biscuits until both sides are golden brown, and repeat with the remaining dough.
- Remove each donut, leting the excess oil drip off, and then add to the bag and shake until the donut is coated.
End-of-Week-ish Recap!

I love cinnamon sugar donuts — I get one even when I got to the shops with fancy donuts. I hope you bring these over for coffee tomorrow. ;-)
They’re definitely one of my favorites, haha, I need to make more! :]!

Even though they are fried, I would totally eat on a camping trip! Need the extra calories for all the hiking and adventuring, right?!

hahaha, yes!! They were delicious! <3
What a neat way to make donuts! I have an air fryer and you’re supposed to be able to make them in there as well. I’ll have to give your biscuit method a try!

Ooo, you’ll have to let me know how that goes! I don’t have an air fryer but I’ve always been curious! :]
I don’t really go camping but I’d love to try to make these donuts at home!

I have never attempted to make donuts…. but with the refrigerated dough, it looks easy!
I’ve only ever done baked donuts, so this was definitely a first for me! It’s gonna have to happen again though because it was (surprisingly) super easy! *-*

Yum! I pretty much love all donuts, but this is a genius idea for a camping trip!
We used to have a mini donut fryer when I was a kid and those were truly the best donuts in the world.
They were such a tasty treat to have on the trail! *-*
Ooo, that sounds awesome! I’ve never used one but I can definitely imagine all the delicious treats that’d come out of that! *-*
Yuuummm! What a delicious idea!
I hate frying things because of the oil splatter but I need to make some donuts!

I usually never fry things either but these ended up turning out really well (thankfully)! :D! I feel ya on the oil splatter though–I was worried about that!
