Far too often, I think we focus too much on what we haven’t done yet vs. the things we’ve managed to accomplish. I’d planned to make a 30 before 30 list but never got around to it, but I have a lot of stuff going on with my 101 in 1001’s, so there’s no time like the present–I’m mashing the two concepts into a 30 before 30 reverse bucket list! :]
30 Before 30 Reverse Bucket List
In no particular order…
Travel somewhere by myself.
To be quite honest though, almost the entirety of my 4th year of medical school was basically just traveling by myself, but as far as actual trips go…
- Hawaii (7-day itinerary)
- Asheville (Part 1 | Part 2)
- Ithaca (I’ll get to writing about that soon…)
Go camping.
- Redwoods Car Camping Trip (Coastal Trail Hidden Beach Section | Miner’s Ridge + James Irvine Loop | Big Tree Area)
- Backpacking at Laguna Mountain
I went on a handful of trips when I was a kid too, and also went camping with a friend in upstate New York by Lake George last summer–I hope to get to do this more this year!
Volunteer at an animal rescue.
I used to want to be a vet, but came upon the realization in college that I probably wouldn’t be able to put any of them down, so I went the route of becoming a people-doctor and vowed to fund/volunteer at animal rescues in the future! Not only did I volunteer–I actually ended up living at one for a while, and will be heading back there this weekend to visit for my birthday! :P
- Please Save A Cat + Friends For Life
Graduate with a B.S. in Exercise Biology and a B.A. in Music Performance (Piano).
The one caveat to the deal I struck with my dean in exchange for getting to ignore the 225-unit cap and take as many courses as I pleased as long was that I had to graduate in 4 years. I packed 110 classes into my 4 years in college and finished with over 300 units (har har)!
Run a half marathon.
Graduate from medical school.
Get into my #1 residency program.
This was how I decided to choose my rank list…and this is what it actually came down to. :P (Applying was expensive, but I managed to keep costs down pretty well!)
Win a scholarship.
I’ve won 3 of em’ so far! :D! You guys helped me with one of them! <3
Go to a place on my travel bucket list.
I went to the Fairy Pools in the Isle of Skye for my birthday last year with Rachel and Jaclyn! Will be posting about that somewhere in the near future!
Try paddleboarding.
I went while I was in Hawai’i!
Try surfing.
I took my first lesson while I was in Hawai’i (and would love to do it again ;_;!)!
Take on a new hobby.
…where do i even begin with this?
- Polynesian dancing
- Powerlifting
- Pole
- Aerial silks/lyra
- BJJ
- Salsa
- Ballroom
- Rock Climbing
Travel with friends.
Hopefully, this will continue to expand as time goes on and we all get our lives together, but last year, I did get to go on a trip to England/Scotland with Rachel + Jaclyn!
Enter a powerlifting competition.
I’ve entered two! :] At the second one, I ended up PRing with my deadlift at 275lbs and set the state record under that federation for my age group/weight class! :]
Go on a medical missions/international service trip.
I went totheDominicanRepublic during spring break for an international service trip!
Get a stable job.
My jobs throughout college were actually all related to music (working in the music library, being an accompanist + teaching piano), but I’m finishing up my second year of residency!
Start a band.
We started The Vagal Tones (heh) in our second year of medical school and got to perform in Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg! I miss our band!
Learn to cook.
…At least ~1/3 of my blog is about food. :D…
Go paintballing.
We’re hoping to make this a yearly resident tradition!
Go to a blog/food expo.
- GFAF Expo (2017)
- Expo East
Stay in a hostel.
I stayed at one while I was in Asheville and it was a super pleasant experience!
Take a cooking class.
We learned to make gnocchi at Due Mari!
Go whitewater rafting.
I’ve gone twice–in 2008 and in 2012. I’d love to go again–it’s been a while!
Learn how to play an instrument.
I majored in piano performance. :P
Go rock climbing outdoors.
Will be posting about this soon!
Start a blog.
You’re lookin’ at it now!
Find my passion.
Done! Residency can definitely be tough, but it’s leading me straight to where I want to be in my life. <3
See a show on Broadway.
My parents and I went to see Phantom of the Opera when they came to visit me last month!!
Adopt a pet.
Ninja has been in my life since 2005 and Princess Muffin has been chillin’ with me since 2014!
In the works:
Start learning about/investing in my 401k/IRA.
I’m actually meeting with a financial advisor later on this week to get my life together! :O Oh, adulting.
Visit a national park.
I’ve been to a few but haven’t blogged about em’ because it was back when I was in elementary school. It’s National Park Week starting this Saturday (such an awesome birthday present! <3!). My friend and I are gonna be exploring Shenandoah!
- Have you ever made a 30 before 30 or a reverse bucket list?
- What’s something that’d make it onto your list?

Ooh, I loveee this idea! I haven’t made a before 30 list before – but it sounds like a great excuse to do all the fun things!
I love how many hobbies you have!

hehe, that’s what made me want to make one, but since I never got around to it, I figured looking back on the fun things I’d already done would work too. :P
I like too many things! x_x hehehe.

This is AWESOME…I went to Ashville last Fall and it was beautiful, peaceful, and so relaxing. And the food there was delicious! Yep…It always goes back to the food. HA!

Aww, thank you! :D!
I’ve never made a reverse (or forward) bucket list. I’ve been to several National Parks, but not Shenandoah!

I like the idea of putting a bucket list together! I’ve never actually done it….I just think things in my head
hehe, I love making lists, so I inevitably end up with a billion different ones! :P

You continue to amaze me with your various talents and activities, not to mention your busy job! I have a lot of things I say are on my “bucket list,” but I have never actually listed them all individually. Maybe I need to get all them down in writing, hmmm?
hehehe, I have way too many interests, but it keeps life interesting! :]
It definitely helps me to have a list! I like being able to cross things off (that feeling of accomplishment! :P )!

I love this! I’m working on my 30X30 list right now; I’ll be sharing on the blog soon. However, I really like the idea of a reverse bucket list where you can acknowledge and celebrate all the things you have already done! And you’ve done a lot! Dang!

The sky is definitely the limit for you–I don’t know how you find the time to pack it all in!
I think I may sleep a lot less than the average person. :D…

Dang girl, I’m super impressed by how much you’ve accomplished by 30! I feel slightly behind in my life, lol!! On an aside, I really want to learn how to make gnocchi. :)
hehe, thanks! :D And don’t feel behind! I just like way too many things and have a tendency to forgo sleep to get em’ done, haha.
Gnocchi is [thankfully] pretty easy to make! If you want a tasty ricotta version, I put the recipe from my cooking class up! :]!

Weirdly I never thought about my future. I know that sounds strange but I never really wondered what I would do or where I would be. Ik new I wanted to be an entrepreneur and that’s about it. Then life happened, lost 100+ pounds, meet a great guy, flew around the world, I would have never guessed I’ve visited 14 countries. Your revised bucket list is awesome. I need to make a bucket list.
hehe, you’re way better than me! I definitely have a tendency to plan so much into the future that I sometimes forget to live in the moment, so it’s definitely been something
I’ve been working on! I’d love to see what’s on your bucket list! :]

A powerlifting competition. That is so cool!
It was a lot of fun!

This is a great idea. Although I guess I sort of do this when I do goal recap posts. It’s nice to sit back and realize that we’re really accomplishing a lot though.
Goal recap posts are great for this! I’m terrible with monthly consistency on those so I ended up with this! :P
