Return to 101 in 1001

101 in 1001 (2011-2014)

Do you make resolutions every year? For a while now, I’ve been subscribing to 101 in 1001 instead and I think it works a lot better with my life!

Why 1001?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

101 in 1001 (2011-2014)

I think I was probably around 15 in this picture. Not too much has changed. I still love to write. :]

Note: One thing I’ve learned is to attempt to refrain from putting other people into these goals. When they disappear from your life, it makes it kinda hard to complete that particular goal. Although if you follow my logic, I was hoping they’d stay in my life, so although I should learn from this, I probably won’t.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (i.e., no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e., represent some amount of work on my part).

Start: October 16, 2011
Finish: April 3, 2014

Goal = lifestyle incorporations (continuous & in progress)
Goal = completed

This will be both a continuation of everything I didn’t get done last time (the feasible things), along with a bunch of new goals. A lot has changed since the start of 2009, some for the better, some not so much, but in any case, I was not anywhere near successful in completing everything off my last list, but I did finish the ones that mattered most to me. I had to majorly revamp a number of things on the last list, and there is no guarantee that the same will not happen to this one, but here we go again!

Self-Improvement / Health+Fitness

1. Run a 7 minute mile (less would be even better). [currently at 7:20!] 2. Be able to lift at least 1.5x my body weight. [215 in mid-April 2013!] 3. Body fat => 17%!
4. Continue lifting/strength training 3x/week. (Exceptions unfortunately apply during exam weeks.)
5. Continue running/doing some form of endurance activity 3x/week.
6. Be more open/better at communicating with others. (I think I’ve definitely gotten a lot better with this one, but there’s always room for more improvement.)
7. Try to get in flexibility training/stretching for at least 10-15 minutes each day. (Be able to do the “pancake” stretch and get splits back on both sides.)
8. Before I get annoyed/frustrated with someone/something, ask self if it’ll still matter to me in 5 years. If not, let it go.
9. Give more of a crap/Put a little more effort into how I look when it counts (e.g. interview, meeting patients). [In other words, learn to do makeup/hair so you don’t look like a complete slob.]
10. Keep following IIFYM!
