Ultimate Fitness Getaway

This week’s [optional] theme for the Fit Dish link up (hosted by Jill Conyers @ JillConyers.com, & Jessica Joy @ TheFitSwitch.org) is on…the Ultimate Fitness Getaway.

Wanna know how I made that hip hei? I made a tutorial! :]

So where would I go for my ultimate fitness getaway, you ask?

I love warm weather, beaches and sunshine. (Can you tell I hail from California? >_> ) The warmer weather (it’s supposed to be in the upper 60’s and low-70’s all week! <3) here has definitely lifted my spirits lately though! I was getting a little tired of all the grey!

I very much miss traveling, but if I could go anywhere, it’d be back home to Twirly Girls (my review of the studio is here!). They’re preparing for their annual Lovely Rita Fundraiser right now to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation to support Rita, and I really wish I could be there for it!

If I had more monies left over, I would go to Hawai’i, which I don’t have any pictures of because it has been a decade + 2 years since I was last there (someday…), so I will instead share with you a pretty beach picture from when I went on a medical service trip to the Dominican Republic.

I’d love to join a halau and learn hula + Tahitian forreal, and what better place to learn than in Hawai’i?! <3 I have a friend who’s preparing for the Merrie Monarch festival right now, and the pictures she’s been posting makes me all sorts of jealous, as that happens to be one of my many pipe dreams. It’s considered to be the most prestigious of hula competitions! :O

(In case you’re wondering, the Merrie Monarch festival is a week-long cultural festival that takes place in Hilo, Hawai’i, and is dedicated to the memory of King David Kalakaua, who was the last king of the Kingdom of Hawai’i, and a strong supporter of the arts, especially music + dance.) There is a residency program in Hilo and I’ve been heavily considering applying there, but they have a very strong preference for in-staters, which I obviously am not. ._. I’m mainly planning on applying to programs in states that I would love to live in/wouldn’t mind living in, so we’ll see where I end up next year?

Relson Gracie also happens to live in Hawai’i (r’member when he offered me a job and I had to turn it down?). He stopped by in Kentucky a couple weeks ago while I was in West Virginia, so I made an impromptu trip back for a women’s self defense seminar that he was teaching.

womensseminar

He’s accepted the fact that I gotta finish med school, so he said that I should go visit/train over there once I graduate and have more time. :O

Might I also add that he was reviewing how to choke someone out and had us all practice on him…

…and then we all went out for sushi and he paid for my dinner! :O! Whatta wonderful soul.

    1. I’m super happy too! Apparently, he’s planning on visiting again in June, so I may get to see him before I run away from Kentucky for my 4th-year rotations all over the country!

I felt so bad that all of us were choking him, but I guess what counts is that he’s okay despite all of that! (Hooray for tapping out, haha.)

I am all in if we ever plan a mass blogger meetup in Hawai’i! <3
