Ultimate Coffee Date: February 2020

Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date! I’ve been at my new job for 3 months already (where has the time gone!?)! I’ve been meaning to put together a “day in the life” again!

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that the whole planning-travels thing I mentioned last month has gone out the window because I’ve had two forced holidays since starting my job and am actually at negative vacation days right now (…). The vacations I wanted to go on are more likely going to be long weekends instead. (Such is life and adulting.)

In other news, work lunches have been super tasty lately! *-*

To remedy this, I decided to pick up a shift on the “call day black market” so I’ll be doing a few billion 10 minute telephone appointments from 8am-4:30pm for Presidents’ Day because…I’d really like to not be negative for vacation days. Wish me luck. :'(

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that my friend and I work in neighboring cities right now so we have a standing dinner dates every Wednesday! We’ve been eating our way through the area and trying out a different restaurant every week. :]!

This week was ramen! :]

If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…ask you if you ever hang out with your coworkers. Everyone’s super nice where I work, but I don’t think anyone actually really hangs out outside of work.

I’m sure part of it has to do with the fact that almost everyone there has kids and spouses to go home to, but hopefully at some point, we’ll change things up! I might be getting dinner with my medical assistants at some point if we find a mutually free day!

Someone painted over the cracks in the sidewalk and I thought it was really pretty! :P

I also may have found…yet another activity to partake in–7-8 weeks of ballroom dancing lessons for $40(?!)!! Lessons are 30 minutes from where I live, but…what else am I doing with my time anyway? (Aside from Polynesian, BJJ, silks, pole, and lifting?) I might as well pick up all the hobbies.

See past ultimate coffee dates here!

  1. I very rarely hang out with my coworkers due to our schedules. I have a few friends from a previous job and we try to get together a few times a year. But I guess with my current coworkers we see each other enough that we don’t necessarily plan anything outside of work.
That painting on the sidewalk is such a cool idea!

    1. haha, that makes sense! I guess it’s also a product of most of my closest friends being scattered all over the country–I gotta find nearby people to hang out with!

Right? :D! I thought so too!

  2. I have gone out with the nurse that I work with. Her boyfriend is in a Megadeath cover band and my son and I went to see them. It was LOUD and entertaining and gave us a lot to talk about after!!

I feel you on the PTO–I am part-time and I only get 3 hours per pay period. So ridiculous! So I really take long weekends more than anything else. It kinda sucks…

    1. That’s so cool! :O I wonder what kind of music my coworkers are into…I haven’t gone to a concert in a while!

Ahhh, that’s rough! I’m hoping that maybe after the first year, I’ll accumulate more days and it won’t feel like I can never take a vacation, but totally with you that this lack of vacation thing sucks, haha. ._.

  3. I don’t know how you do it all — must be youth! So go do all the hobbies. Wish I could interest my hubby in ballroom dancing. I’m not a good dancer, but I think it’d be fun — and good for our brains! — to learn.

Trying new restaurants is always fun. :)

I’ve been working from home (or not working) for most of my adult life, but most of my husband’s friends did come from work. Since we never had kids, the kid thing was sometimes a barrier.

    1. I just have way too many interests! :'(!

Aww, it’d definitely be a fun activity to do together! I am by no means graceful but I’m trying to get better! :P

I’m in the same boat! I don’t want kids ever and most people here have kids, so that definitely makes things harder to plan/schedule!

  4. Wednesday dinner dates sounds fun! Negative vacation days not so much

    1. Agree! I think once I start getting put on call on the weekends, I’ll start accumulating vacation days again and won’t be in the negative, so I guess there’s that!

  5. So sorry you had to use your vacation days for non-vacation things. I used to hang out with my coworkers when I worked (before I retired). We had a standing happy hour date for Fridays after school at a local brewery. It was a lot of fun. I hope you can find some coworkers to hang out with.

    1. All good–hopefully I’ll start accumulating hours soon! *-* That sounds like fun (and thank you; I hope so too!)! I used to have a lot more hangouts with my fellow residents when I was in residency so I feel like part of me is just really missing that camaraderie, hehe.

  6. Ugh. Sorry about your travel plans. That’s no fun. Adulting is awful sometimes.

My coworkers are my pugs. We eat lunch together almost every day and it’s magical. Especially when they try to trip me because I’m not getting their kibble fast enough.

    That Ramen looks delicious.

I have to say, those telephone medical appointments are great. Mr PR had to use that service once when he thought he had pink eye (this girl does NOT play about pink eye) and it worked out well (he didn’t have it!)

    1. Agreed! I miss not having to adult, haha, but some aspects of it are pretty nice.

I would love to have your coworkers! :p I don’t think that’ll ever be possible for me though unless I somehow end up completely phone-based, but that sounds so nice. :]!

I’m glad it worked out well! I’ll see how this one goes and if it isn’t too bad, I may just pick up a bunch of shifts to rack up more vacation!

  7. That ramen bowl is beautiful! I love your mug haha ;).

    1. haha, thank you! It’s my friend’s, but it’s my favorite one to use when I’m at his place!

  8. I love the idea of trying a new restaurant with a friend once a week! That Ramen looks delicious!! Love your coffee mug too :-)

    1. hehehe, thank you! It’s been so long since I’ve lived in this area that I feel like I haven’t explored most of it now. There are so many new places!

  9. I don’t hang out with co-workers as much as I use to, but we get together at least once a year for a Christmas dinner and gift exchange. The younger people at my work hang out all the time. We really have a family-like atmosphere, probably because of the long hours we spend together.

    1. Yay! I’m all for family-like atmospheres at work–makes work a lot more bearable, hehe. I’m hoping I’ll get to hang out with some of my coworkers outside of work at some point!

  10. How do the forced holidays happen? Do you not get scheduled to work, or do you need to take off for personal reasons? Either way, it sounds sucky, lol. I do things with some coworkers but mostly we just want to get home to our families.

I’m so glad you made it to the coffee date!

    1. Basically I would’ve had to tell them I was fine with working on that day and have them put me somewhere to work or else it gets counted as a forced holiday, but since I started so late, I wasn’t able to request them since that would’ve been done early last year…so now here we are. :'( So sad, haha.

Thank you for hosting! :] It’s my favorite linkup!
