Welcome to the last Ultimate Coffee Date of the year! I’m sure I say this every year, but this year went by fast! 2019 has probably been filled with the most change thus far: finishing residency, going on a 2.5-month long cross country road trip, starting out as a new attending… It’s definitely been eventful!
Ultimate Coffee Date: December 2019
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’ll probably write a post to how I’m adjusting to life as a new attending soon, but for now, I’m just gonna say that everyone has been suuuuper nice and supportive. I’m working with a really great group of people, my boss is awesome, and I’m learning something new every day!
I actually have an office! With a window! And my own MA! :O!!! My boss got me a plant for my desk and assured me that it was (a) hard to kill, and that (b) even if it dies, it is definitely not reflective of my tenure there.
In the interim, I started a new tag on here for attending life. I thought it only fitting, since I have one for grad school, med school, and residency.
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that one of my closest friends was living with me for the past month while my parents were in Asia. We’ve been joking that she’s my trophy housewife and she’s been cooking all kinds of deliciously amazing meals. <3 Her dog and one of my cats have been sunbathing and playing (kinda) together! :] It’s been super fun and I really miss her! :[

In my pockets of free time, I’ve been trying to write and schedule more posts into the future because after 6 months, my schedule is going to ramp up to the max. I’ve also been trying to balance that with going to BJJ and Polynesian practice as well as pole, silks, and lifting. Free time? What’s free time? (I’m very good at filling it up…)
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d…tell you that I’m performing with the Awesöme Orchestra Collective for their End of Year Concert this weekend in Berkeley! :] (I mentioned em’ at the last coffee date!) I’m just gonna be singing for one of the pieces (the song is from The Land Before Time <3), and I’m super excited to hear em’ play The Wind Waker Movement from the Legend of Zelda Symphony!
See past ultimate coffee dates here!

- Do you remember how your first day at your new job went? (Technically, residency was my first real job, but it felt more temporary because I knew I’d only be there 3 years.)
- What did you do with your first paycheck?

It’s been a great year for you! Glad your job is going so well. I started at my current firm in 1992 so my first day is a distant memory!
Thank you! I’m really glad too! That’s awesome that you’ve stayed at yours for all this time! Fingers crossed that things continue to go well—I’d like to not have to look for another job! :P
You have your own office? How nice! I remember those days…unfortunately, my employer, a huge group in Chicago, has moved to the ‘pod’ concept where we all sit in a giant workspace. No privacy and it is a bit difficult to concentrate. After 2 1/2 years of it, I’m used to it. It doesn’t mean I like it! Thank goodness I like my patients…
I love the blog revamp! Happy holidays!
Technically I share an office but it’s kinda nice having the company! We had a pod-ish concept in residency (mainly just because they couldn’t really afford to give anyone offices) too–the privacy definitely helps a lot! *-* I’m glad you like your patients!
And thank you! It was actually completely accidental, haha. I updated and it murdered my theme, so I made a new header and did a bunch of tweaking, so here it is now. :P Glad you like it! :]!
Sounds like your new attending position is off to a great start. So sweet to give your paycheck to your parents. Thanks for catching up over coffee today

I really like the people here, so that definitely helps! :]! Thanks for co-hosting! :]
Congratulations on your own office. You worked hard to get where you are! The food from your Christmas potluck looks yummy! One of the things I miss about being retired is no potluck lunches anymore.
I didn’t know you lived in (near?) Berkeley. My son lived there for about 5 years and I absolutely loved visiting him. One of the highlights for me was going to Chez Panisse!

Thank you! :] It was super good! How about potluck meals with friends? :D (Those tend to be some of my favorite get-togethers, hehehe.)
I’m somewhat close (about 40-ish minutes away if there’s no traffic)! I haven’t gone to Chez Panisse yet…I”ll have to check it out! :]
Great post! Your pug is adorable :)
hehe, thank you! :] She belongs to my friend but I’m super glad she got along with my cats! I think one of my cats actually misses her!
Great to hear things are going well! I’ve been at my current job over 13 years…and can’t remember my first day LOL
haha, I hope to make it here at least 13 years! :P!
You’ve had such a busy, but awesome year!
Congrats on getting your own office! :) I’ve been at my current job for 8 years and I can actually (shockingly) still remember my first day there!
Agreed! :D!
haha, I think I will remember mine too in the years to come! :]
Congrats! I spent my first paycheck from
the Navy to purchase my first car – only the down payment of course.
Nice! I’m hoping mine will last forever–I don’t want to have to buy another one! :o
You’ve had a year of wonderful changes! Congrats on that first paycheck. It’s been too long to remember mine. How wonderful your kitty and your friends dog are getting along! So cute. Have fun with the concert!
Thanks so much! :] Heading off to rehearsal later today!
What an exciting year you’ve had! I love the picture of you with your first check – so fun! I put my first paycheck in my savings account so I could buy a car when I graduated from college.

hehehe, they said I made it look like I won something (which it kinda felt like I did? :P ). That’s awesome! I am…very-very slowly trying to pay off my student loans and save up for a house! *-*
I’m so glad your year has been so wonderful, much deserved after all of your hard work. That is so exciting that you got your first paycheck too :-)

Thank you! :] I didn’t know where to go to pick it up, so it’s a good thing my boss happened to stop by the admin office when he was taking me for a tour!
I have had many first days and I don’t think I remember any of them. Maybe that’s a good thing?
Cats & dogs at least just tolerating each other is a good thing!
I wish you luck with your concert & your job. It sounds like you’re off to a great start & your boss sounds great, too — that’s half the battle. Let’s just say my boss in my first job after college wasn’t great — he wasn’t horrible, but definitely didn’t give me any plants. :)
haha, perhaps!
I agree! I think Muffin partially believes she’s a dog so she’s always gotten along with them better than she does with cats (sigh).
Thank you! I think the concert went well! :] I hope you have a better boss now!
2019 has been a special year for you! I’m so glad that things are going so well with your new job! I love that you gave your parents your first check – that’s so sweet!
It definitely has been! :]
I heard my mom secretly telling one of her good friends! :o I didn’t know it’d mean so much, but I’m glad I could make em’ happy!

Well obviously that pug is the best and I am not surprised you miss it!
I love that you’re settling into your new role and your new office! You look very at home at that desk!
So exciting about your performance! Are you going to be able to post a link after the show is over?
She’s such a cute dog. <3!
hehe, thank you! I'm definitely getting a little more familiar with things now!
I'm super hoping that someone recorded it! No one I knew went and wasn't performing, but I'll try and find it somewhere! I recorded the audio so if I figure out a way to attach that to a photo to post, I may end up doing that! :]
