Hi everyone! What’s been going in your life? Pull up a chair and come catch up with life with me for the Ultimate Coffee Date!
If we were having coffee/tea today, I’d tell you that…between my OB rotation and my FM inpatient rotation, I snuck off to Boston to spend the weekend with one of my childhood friends! We’ve known each other since 4th grade and haven’t seen each other in 3(?!) years. (We actually had to consult facebook/my blog to see when we’d last met up, but I believe it was when we went to Sausalito.)
It’s been ages since we’ve both even been in the same time zone. Back in the days when I used to run (Farrah…running?! Was there really ever a time!?), she was my running/training buddy for the one and only half marathon I’ve ever signed up for + completed. Our splitting off to different time zones might actually be why I stopped running (sigh).
We plan our travels by way of food and Google documents, so we spent Friday evening chilling on her couch and cathing up on life over pizza and Gilmore Girl reruns (who’s watched the revival?!? thoughts? :O!)–twas very reminescent of our college days on the evenings where we had practice sessions for our a capella group.
The last time I went to Boston was to hang out with another childhood friend for Thanksgiving 5 years ago…so we had to be sure to pack Saturday with a ton of activities–we ended up walking 12 miles that day!
We had chowder for lunch at Quincy Market and walked through Boston Common…
We had dinner at Atlantic Fish Company and stopped at Mike’s Pastry for cannolis (yay for dessert)! No photos of the food because of dim lighting/the fact that we inhaled it all so quickly. Sunday morning was breakfast at Dempsey’s (yay for Irish Eggs Benedict!). :D
Once upon a time when I was a senior in high school, I got a phone call from the admissions department at Harvard telling me that I should apply there. lawl.
I never did end up applying, but now I can finally say I stepped foot on their campus! It’s gorgeous there in the fall!
I seem to always be doing mile-long ventures in the rain to get to frozen treat establishments. (Both this and the shaved ice were totally worth it.)

O no, but I’ve always wanted to go up to Boston! The furthest north I’ve been is Rhode Island and Connecticut, no Massachusetts :/ One day!!! (Got to see Harvard ;) )

I hope you get to go up there sometime! The New England area is such an awesome place to explore! :]
Boston is a fun place to visit and how great to meet up with some old friends. I need to do that more often. Thanks so much for joining us for coffee today

It definitely is! :]! Thanks so much for hosting!
I’m mostly a solo runner, but mix it up once in awhile with a friend or a group run.
I’ve been to Boston a few times, but not in quite a few years now.
When traveling, we mostly walk everywhere! I love it!! Makes up for some of the extra calories. ?

I miss my running buddy!
It’d been a while for me too, but it’s always a fun city to visit! :]
Yay for a fellow walk-everywhere traveler! :D! Definitely agreed–it helps to cancel it out! ;P
So happy for you that you were able to make it to visit your friend! Such precious times with old friends! I have not been to Boston, but will be going this spring to run the marathon- wooo!

Thanks, Kerri! I was so happy–it’d been wayyy too long!!
That’s so awesome! <3 Congrats on qualifying--I'll be rooting for you! <3
So fun that you had a Boston visit- that is my stomping ground- or used to be…pre-marriage and kids! I love a good girls-get-together…just sets me right again. It looked super nice out, and I too, must plan everything around food, so I tend to like a walking tour while I travel- better way to see everything!

Aww, that’s awesome! It was definitely a nice day on the day that we walked 12-ish miles (thankfully!)! I’m glad I’m not the only one that plans everything around food! ;P
I have a bunch of friends that I have not seen in years, however, when I see them again – it’s like absolutely NO TIME has passed! :) Those are the best friends you can ever have!

Definitely agreed! I’ve definitely been blessed in that area, thankfully! <3 It would've been way rougher through med school if not for that!!
OMG, I thought you were going to tell us you want on a date! I got so excited. :) lol The oldest friends I have are from middle school. You totally beat with this 4th-grade friendship. That corn chowder in a bread bowl looks superb so does the Eggs Benedicts.

hahaha, nope nope. I feel like residency takes up 150% of my life so I’m pretty much left with no time to date. Tis just as well because I may be well on my way to spinsterhood anyway. :P
I need to try making my own sourdough bread bowls sometime! *-* And ah, eggs benedict–definitely one of my favorite breakfasts! :D
What a great little impromptu trip! I would love to go back to Boston (both for the marathon and to visit). I went with my family in junior high, and Alex just went (without me, rude, but for the big Liver conference). I want some lobster in my life.

It’s a lot of fun there! I hope you get to go back to visit sometime for both those reasons! :P
Super congrats to Alex! I’m glad you get to stay where you are! :D
I haven’t spent much time in Boston, but I’ve squeezed in a few runs before conferences there. It’s a lovely city. Since I grew up in Old Town Alexandria, the historic vibe feels like “home.” I started out a solo runner, but enjoy running with friends now.

It’s definitely an awesome city! I like that historic vibe as well–I felt like there was so much to explore!
I miss running with my friend! We were definitely way more consistent about it/actually did it when we lived closed to each other!
Childhood friends are the best! Isn’t it awesome how you can go for years without seeing each other, but then when you do get together it’s like no time has passed at all? Even better that she was a running buddy! Boston is one of my favorite cities and seeing all your photos makes me so nostalgic to visit again! I am wiping off drool from all the food pictures. =)

Agreed! I love that about my friendships with my closest friends! <3
hahaha, I hope you get to go visit again sometime! Boston is an awesome place to visit!!
If I’m traveling, it depends on how far things are and where I’m at when it comes to walking/driving. When I went to London this fall, I did mostly walking because we didn’t have a car. It was that and the underground most of the time. I have a bad ankle and my feet blister really bad, so I’m not the best walker, but it worked out okay!
That’s great that you got to visit with a childhood friend. :)
I have never been to Boston but I’d like to visit sometime.

Definitely agreed! In places where it’s pretty walk-friendly, I try to walk whenever possible because yay for being eco-friendly and building some exercise into my travels! ;P Sometimes that’s not so possible though–I’m glad it worked out okay for you!!
I was so glad to see her again! :D
I hope you get to visit sometime! It’s a fun city! :]
Boston looks amazing! I’ve never been before, but I would love to go! The lunch you had at quincy market looks so delicious too, yum!

Oops. I actually do have a photo of it but ended up not adding it because the photo I took wasn’t as pretty as I’d hoped and I kinda dug in a bit too quickly afterward…
It’s great catching up with old childhood friends… I have one that we don’t talk often, but when we do it’s like time has stood still.

They’re the best kinds of friends! I wish I could see them more often, but I”m definitely thankful that we can always pick up right where we left off!

It must have been so fun reuniting with an old friend…it’s amazing how with some of our friends, even though we don’t see each other often, we still pick up where we left off!
I haven’t been to Boston in years, it looks like you had a fun time!
I love running solo but it is nice to break things up and enjoy with friends.

It definitely was! Those are the best types of friendships! :] We have one more hangout planned this year back at home, so I’m super excited for that as well! <3
That's awesome! I do a lot better when I'm running with someone else, but I keep tellin' myself that one of these days, I should just go for it alone, hehe.
