Staying Hydrated with Ohyo Bottles

As a general rule, I never buy bottled water. I do my best to make less of a negative impact on the world wherever possible, so that includes unplugging everything that I can in my apartment before I leave…to walking/biking all over the place back when I was living in a place with sidewalks.

Very few plastic bottles are ever actually recycled, and most of them end up in landfills, so this whole “green living” stretches to encompass carrying around water bottles wherever I go too!

Don't make the world sad with pollution! :[

Don’t make the world sad with pollution! :[

I have issues with staying hydrated. (You know it’s a real problem if it ends up on both my 2015 Fitness Goals and my 101 in 1001 list. >_>), and with the weather (hopefully) warming up in the next couple months, I may be depending less on my trusty insulated water bottle, and more so on all them cold drinks out there in the world! (Probably just water, because I’m not that exciting when it comes to hydration.)

I found out about Ohyo bottles through Erica, and really liked the concept. I am all for companies that promote healthy and green living! :O (I also think the word, “squish” is super cute, but before I derail again, they look like this! (This is the bigger size!)

ohyobottleOhyo water bottles are collapsible water bottles that are awesome for green living, and super easy to clean. They’re made in the UK, but are now available in the U.S. as well! :D The fun colors would make it great for kids, and if you’re worried about water staying in there because of the accordion-style, just wash, rinse, shake vigorously, and overturn it on a dish rack for a bit!

Why They’re Wonderful

  • Environmentally friendly!
  • Durable
  • Dishwasher-safe (so yea, you can just throw it in your dishwasher if you’re feeling lazy! :O )
  • BPA-free
  • Available in 2 sizes (500mL or 1000mL)
  • Compact! (fits in your pocket!)
  • Inexpensive ($8.99 for 500mL or $19.99 for 1000mL, compared to $1-2 per disposable bottle of water–these have been tested up to 10,000 squishes! :O)
  • Lifetime guarantee!

Disclaimer: I received free samples of the Ohyo 1000 & Ohyo 500 in exchange for an honest review. As always, all thoughts & opinions are mine and mine alone! There are a couple affiliate links in this post, which means that if you make a purchase through clicking the link, I’ll receive a tinytiny amount of moolah to throw towards my astronomical student loans.

The 1000mL size comes with a metal clip on it, so you can hang it off your bag/purse/etc. while you’re traveling or doing some sort of awesome outdoorsy activity that I wish I could participate in as well. (It’s just still very cold here, so my will to venture outdoors is very low.)

When squished, they’re about the size of my hand or smaller, which is pretty darn compact. (I can put them through chain link fences with room to spare, and considering how short & stumpy my fingers were, it was a wonder how I was any good at piano! :O )

For the record, please don’t put hot or carbonated beverages in these! They’re meant for cold/room temperature beverages! (Colored drinks may stain, but if you don’t care, then go right ahead!)

Ohyo bottles is providing me with 2 Ohyo Bottles (1 1000mL to the first name I draw, and 1 500mL to the second name I draw) to give to my readers! :D Giveaway ends on March 29th at midnight EST!

    1. Sadly, nope! It’s being shipped through Amazon in the U.S. :[

  2. I sure hope this is open to Canada too!

    1. :x It’s technically only open in the U.S., buttttt if you win, I’ll have them send it to me and ship it over to you! <3! (Shhh...)

  3. What a nifty bottle! I am of course OBSESSED with my bottle. My students even know that if I’m without it, there must be something wrong. o.O I have been using my own bottle for close to ten years, and I awkwardly shame my parents for buying water bottles in bulk. :\ Awkwardly I think I do some good. Lol

    1. haha, that’s awesome that you’ve had the same one for 10 years! I’m very attached to my Hydroflask as well, and totally with you on carrying a bottle around everywhere–it definitely helps to remind me to stay hydrated! I’m glad your parents listen! ;P

  4. These bottles look really cool and I love their “squishability” :) Such a great space saver!

    1. Me too! (And I love that word, hahaha. :P )

  5. This would be awesome because I’m always carrying around a bottle and it is so cumbersome. Love that I could squish it when I was done.

    1. Agreed! I carry one around with me everywhere, and although I love my Hydroflask for hot water or tea, since the weather’s showing signs of warming up again (yayyy!), the cold water option and its squishability will be nice! :]

  6. Have you tried the app “water logged” for monitoring your daily h2o intake? It helps you set goals as to how much water you should consume by x-hour of the day, throughout the day.

I really like that ohyo is collapsible. I bring my own water bottle to work to fill up throughout the day and sometimes that is literally the only thing I am carrying in at the beginning of the day and out at the end. A nice collapsible bottle to fit in my purse would be awesome!

    1. I have not, but I’ll have to check that out once I um, clear my phone of all the pictures of food and cats (…priorities…).

I carry a billion things in my pockets, but I can’t fit a water bottle in there and have my coat still look somewhat normal. :x This makes life easier for me when I happen upon water fountains! :]

  7. Argh! I wish we were in America so I could enter this contest. These are awesome! We go through plastic bottles at a whirlwhind rate here in Thailand – partially because we get 30 bottles with our rental place per month, because of the heat. But I’ve been whinging and moaning about needing good water bottles but how heavy they can be and what a pain they can be to travel with – these would have been perfect!

    1. That’s awesome that you get 30 bottles per month over there! I’m with you on water bottles usually being a pain to travel with though. I’m sorry that it’s not open worldwide! :[ I really need to host a worldwide giveaway someday!

    1. They’re super cute! :]!

  8. I am LOVING these water bottles! Awesome post!

    1. Thanks! I love that they’re so compact! I’m always carrying a billion things, so this makes life a little easier!

  9. How easy are these to clean? I would be afraid that because of the accordion styling it would be really difficult to clean all the nooks??? I ask because I have a hard enough time getting my polar bottle thoroughly clean and it just has indents lol!
Amanda (@mommygorun) recently posted…Honey Bunches of Oats Bake at Home #sponsored #ic #BakingWithBunchesMy Profile

    1. Thus far, they’ve been really easy to clean for me! (Granted, I only ever put filtered water in it, but giving it a really good rinse after soaping up the inside, and then turning it upside down to let it dry on the dish rack has been doing the trick for me!)

  10. I love that they squish down! This would be awesome to take on hiking trails or to theme parks – plenty of water but not a giant bottle to carry around after it’s empty!

    1. For sure! I haven’t had a chance to go hiking yet, but this is definitely the one I’m bringing with me when I do! *-* Can’t wait til the weather warms up!

  11. This is really cool! Should be very easy to carry around and handle.

  13. These are creative! I saw a guy a few years ago with a foldable cup, that he would take running and use at drinking fountains. I liked the idea because when he was done fold back and go.
This water bottle looks like it would be just as handy for that!
