Disclaimer: I received a free pair of prescription glasses from Firmoo in exchange for an honest review. As always, my thoughts + opinions are mine and mine alone!
So…I have a story for you.
Back when I was but a wee little child, my older brother (hi Sam!) told me that I would gain magical powers if I stared at the sun.
Before you get super pissed at him on my behalf (thanks for coming to my defense, friends!), it wasn’t because he was intentionally trying to be a dick. He genuinely believed this too, so we actually used to stare at the sun together.
Yeah, don’t do that. I have zero magical powers to speak of. (Evidently, I wanted them way more than he did, because my vision is much, much worse than his.)
I did not gain teleportation, telekinesis, or the ability to manipulate time.
But I do have astigmatism (mostly in the left eyeball) and really crappy vision! :'(
I hate the way I look in glasses, so I got contacts in 7th grade and since then, unless you were a family member, nooo one ever saw me in glasses. Ever. Glasses are not something I’d ever wear for fun, or for fashion. (Is it weird that I was completely okay with dancing in a bikini top + pareo in front of a couple hundred people, but not so much about being seen in glasses?)
In more recent years, this select population of family-members-only expanded to very close friends and people I felt supersuper comfortable with, and while I was studying for boards last June, I gave zero shits craps about who saw me because I was essentially spending a billion hours each week studying in the catacombs. Ain’t nobody got time to care about appearance.
Today, I’m gonna change that allll up and actually post a picture of me wearing glasses on the internets. (No way. :O!)
However, in an effort to make my contacts last longer (guess who lost her health insurance under her mom due to a birthday? :'( ), I’ve been switching over to glasses whenever I get home.
Betsy over at The Everyday Warrior connected me with the super-nice people at Firmoo.com, and I was given a free pair of prescription glasses in exchange for an honest review. I’d been thinking of getting another pair of prescription glasses anyway, so this worked out perfectly!
I managed to snag a copy of my prescription, as well as my PD (pupillary distance) from my parental units. (Thank you, technology!)
One thing I’m usually wary of = buying things when I can’t try them on, particularly when it’s with glasses.(It is absolutely disastrous with jeans because I do squats.)
As a not-so-fashionable individual, I’ve never actually figured out what frames work with my face, so I loved their Virtual Look Viewer. It was a little hard to find a picture that matched up perfectly, but we’ll go with it:
I ended up not choosing the Blue/Tortoise ones because I decided to be practical (I know, I know). I went for a more neutral color (tortoiseshell, which coincidentally matches both my foster kitty and my cat back at home!) frame that I could wear to work without feeling like I was trying to draw attention to myself.
You can find the specifications on each pair of glasses, and find out everything from suggested pupillary distance and lens width/height to frame style.
Pros
- Customer service is absolutely wonderful. I really felt like Firmoo genuinely wanted to help me find a pair of glasses that I really liked.
- Quick shipping!
- Affordable prices. They have frequent discounts, and free shipping on $39+!
- Lots of customization options (e.g. lens coatings, color [for sunglasses!], + thickness)
- The Virtual Look Viewer feature is rather nifty, and give you a pretty good idea of what the glasses will look like on you.
- They come with a hard case, a soft case, and a cleaning cloth.
Cons
Honestly, the only downsides I could really think of were just a matter of personal preference and the fact that I am a total Scrooge when it comes to spending money on pretty much anything (student loans will do that to you):
- I couldn’t find small frames that I really liked, but like I said, I’m extraordinarily picky when it comes to glasses.
- I’d prefer thinner lenses. (I know I have terrible vision though, and it generally costs a lot more at my optometrist’s place to get em’ thinner so I don’t look quite as blind as I actually am.) You can pay $10-66 to thin em’ down, but I wanted to find out the quality on the glasses before shelling out the money on doing so. (If you recall my crippling student debt of $200k and counting, you can probably understand. Every penny saved counts. ;_; )
If you are looking for new prescription glasses and want to try ordering through Firmoo.com, they’re currently offering new users 50% off your first pair of frames! If you are unlike me and do in fact wear glasses for fashion, those are available too!

Guess I fell into that superpower thing as well. I’ve had glasses since I was a wee lad (that was probably due to a number of things actually) and out of my family I have it the worst. So I can’t really get contacts because my eyes are shaped funny so I’ve only ever been seen with glasses. I opted for those thinner lenses, too, but because of how powerful my prescription is I paid that $200. Even though I have insurance, it only covered the frames. So I was still paying like close to $300.
Sometimes I wish I still worked at VSP. It woulda helped that cost go down somewhat.
You look cute, though. With or without glasses, you’re still a knockout.

I figure my terrible eyesight probably has to do with a lot of other things too (my dad has pretty terrible eyesight as well), but hooray for another funny-shaped-eyeball soul! (Mine are too. :[ ) It makes me sad that they’re so expensive!
Thank you! :D!
The frames you chose look great on you! And I LOVE all of the pics of you and Princess Muffin :)
