I guess it’s hard not to like a cookbook when I already know it’s going to be filled with most, if not all, of the things that I like. I hadn’t ever actually heard of Malibu Farm until I got this cookbook, but when I was growing up, I kinda always wanted to live on a farm, due in part to my love of horses.
I never would’ve dreamed that I’d actually get to, but here I am in West Virginia, living at a farm + cat sanctuary! :] I hope to someday have my own backyard chickens and my own vegetable/fruit/herb garden…but until that gets to happen, one can dream…with these delicious recipes. <3
Malibu Farm Cookbook: Recipes from the California Coast
Genre: Cookbook
Pages: 304
This book is divided up into 11 chapters, so I’ll be taking you through each of em’! :]
From the Coop
As luck would have it, we do have a good number of chickens hanging out at the farm right now, so we get spoiled with farm-fresh eggs! There are a lot of simple + easy recipes in the Malibu Farm Cookbook! :] (For instance, 5/9 of the recipes from the “From the Coop” chapter require less than 5 ingredients!)
From frittatas to fried egg sandwiches, and Swedish Mini-Pancakes with Cream and Berries or Coconut Granola, if you’re at all a fan of breakfast, this will be your favorite chapter!
From the Farm and the Vegetable Beds
I’ve yet to try cauliflower mashed potatoes, but I love cauliflower and broccoli pretty equally–these Broccoli Mashed Potatoes sound super good!
Peas and Pesto Couscous, Lazy Woman’s Salsa (sounds like my kind of salsa…), Farm Chickpea Hummus, Orzo with Peppers, Tomatoes, and Olives…vegetarian recipes galore! :]
From the Hive
You may already be aware of my love for bees and honey–I think it’d be awesome to get to keep bees, but I imagine I’m never going to have that kind of time, so I’ll have to settle for local honey from farmers’ markets!
Learn how to make Honey Lemon Saffron Chicken, Honey-Basil Lemonade, Kabocha Squash with Black Lentils and Honey, Honey Butternut Squash with Lime…
From the Dairy
Learn to make your own goat cheese! …Or Burrata, Nectarine, and Arugula Salad with Sesame Seed Candy! Or TMZ Salad (Tomato, Mozzarella, and Zucchini)!
From the Pasture: Grass-Fed Beef
This section isn’t just for beef–it’s all the non-poultry/seafood meat recipes (e.g. Whole Roasted Lamb with Rosemary and Garlic, Grilled Butterfly Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish, Mike Gardner’s Sausage…)!
From the Sea and on the Beach
If you’re a big fan of seafood, you’ll like this section a lot! White Sea Bass in Soy Sauce Marinade with Ginger, Halibut Sandwiches with Black Olive Aioli, Parsnip-Potato Latkes, Salmon + Grainy Mustard Dressing…
From the Olive Grove
Crispy Okra, Grilled Smashed Potatoes + Roasted Garlic and Parmesan, Green Beans with Roasted Romanesco, Roasted Portabellos with Roasted Red Pepper Pesto, Spaghetti Squash with Cranberries and Almonds…
From the Hen House
Chicken, Ricotta, and Bacon Burger, Chicken + Cherry Tomatoes, Turkey Breast Stuffed with Leeks, Super Thin Turkey Gravy…
From the Vineyard
Learn how to make Wine-Based Drinks (3 ways!), Red Beet Quinoa, Purple Kale + Purple Plums, Chicken with Balsamic Fig Vinegar Reduction…
From the Baker and the Pastry Maker
Whole Wheat Berry Crumble with Agave, Salted Caramel Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches, Bay Leaf-Scented Yogurt Cake, Black Sesame Seed Panna Cotta…
Each recipe includes the serving size, ingredient list, instructions, and when pertinent, tips on how to make life easier with cooking whatever the recipe happens to be. The recipes are simple, with a focus on fresh ingredients, and a good number of them don’t even require too many different ingredients to make em’! Every here and there, a recipe will cross-reference a different recipe in the book, but the page number is provided, so don’t you worry!
The Malibu Farm Cookbook also comes with a built-in light green bookmark, which is helpful for trying to remember which recipe you had planned on making (good luck deciding…). I’ve never been to Malibu, but I think I definitely need to go there someday! I’d love to check out the Malibu Farm Pier Cafe!

This looks like such a great cookbook – with awesome photos too! I feel like Australia doesn’t really have any key recipes because we have such a multicultural population that our food culture is kind of just a mix of everything :P
