I’m joining in again for Let’s Talk Training Thursday, co-hosted by Pretty Lil Mudder, Powered by Bling, Half Marathon Mama and Girl on the Move!
This week’s topic is on training essentials! I’m entirely aware that I may be interpreting this theme a little differently, but since I’m notoriously frugal, I don’t have too many actual essentials (although I do have some favorites)!
Positive Attitude
Seriously, negative self-talk kinda murders most, if not all of the progress and improvements that I could be making. :O
I’ve been a long-term user of self-deprecating humor, so I really, really need to remember this when I’m actually trying to go out and get things done (and by “getting things done,” I mean turning myself into a badass).
Being Injury-Free
I busted up my knee last week whilst wrestling with my instructor. I feel especially bad about this because he felt so, so guilty about it. (He is arguably the one person there that tries his absolute hardest to not ever inflict any damage on me. The only other person who’d give him a run for his money would be Mike.)
In any case, when he sprawled and pushed me down, I went down a lot harder than I’d anticipated and smashed up my knee. This is why I’m keeping my legs covered up in class; I don’t want him to see em’, or he’ll feel even more terrible. :[
Healthy/Delicious Food
I recently came upon the realization that the amount I spend on groceries per month when I’m splurging (<$100) is actually well under the amount allotted for the SNAP program.
This is somewhat mind-blowing, but since I’m living on imaginary money right now and have also been living like this for the past 8-ish years, I might as well continue with my current lifestyle. I’m on a concurrent crusade to convince my [preceptor’s] patients that it is entirely possible to eat healthily without spending a crap ton of money.
Support/Encouragement
While I wouldn’t necessarily classify this as an “essential,” it definitely hasn’t hurt in the past! :P

LOVE that positive attitude is #1! So critical, and its importance cannot be minimized.
A good sports bra, as well.

Oh hello, that is wildly true. :o Can’t believe I forgot a good sports bra–that would indeed be crucial! :P
I LOVE your interpretations! I took it more literally and actually went with my gear (of which I definitely have way too much stuff! And an addiction to buying more :-p) but what you said totally makes sense! Having a positive attitude is definitely important- I’m sure we all hit days in our training when we feel like just giving up! I hope your leg feels better!

haha, part of my interpretation was because I couldn’t think of any gear. :P I have an addiction to cute workout clothes too, haha. My leg is mostly feeling better! :D I’m just being…a rather lazy piece of crap for these past couple days, but mayhaps my body just really needs to rest.
Totally agree on the positive attitude! If your mental game is off, there is not much you can do.
