I recently had the opportunity to try out the HASK Monoi Coconut Oil line! :] They sent me a cute little package of their shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, shine hair oil, and a super awesome brush. (I may or may not be biased because I love pineapples, so that is one awesome brush.)
Confession: I’ve always had long hair (except when I was too young for it to be long), but I tend to especially grow it out in the winter because it doubles as a scarf and keeps me warm. …I’d like to think I’m not the only one who does this!?
I’ve heard for years (2008-ish) about the benefits of coconut oil for hair and skin, but until now, I’d only ever used it for cooking and as a moisturizer. My hair’s actually getting to the point where I really should cut it, because I feel like it’s weighin’ my head down (I uh, last had a hair cut over a year ago), and my hair ties keep breaking (my hair is pretty thick), so I was super excited to try these out!
The shampoo and conditioner are a blend of monoi oil, coconut oil and Tahitian gardenias. I’ve been using them with every wash for almost two weeks, and I like em’ a lot! It smells like coconut, so if you happen to hate coconut, this probably would not be a good product for you.
Highlights:
- Free of any sulfates, parabens, phthalates, drying alcohol, or artificial colors
- Very hydrating (especially helpful in the winter!)
- Makes my hair super soft, silky + shiny
- Doesn’t leave a residue or weigh my hair down
I used the shine oil on my hair for my friend’s AIDS LifeCycle fundraiser, and I think it worked really well! It made my hair super shiny, and didn’t leave an oily residue in my hair, or even on my hands, so I did not fall off the pole (yay)!
The shampoo, conditioner, and shine oil are $5.99 each, and the deep conditioner packette is $2.99, all of which are pretty darn affordable in my book.
I’d probably reach for the shampoo and conditioner again after I run out, but since I’m low-maintenance to a fault, it might be a while before I’d have to get more shine oil, since a little goes a long way, and it’s not something I use often. I’ve been rationing the deep conditioner, so I can probably get one more use out of it before it runs out! :]

- What’s your favorite shampoo/conditioner?
- Have you ever used shine oil? How often do you deep condition your hair (if you do)?
- Do you grow your hair out in the winter? I actually just chopped off 5-7 [rough guesstimate] yesterday and my head feels 2 pounds lighter! :O

I’ve never had really long hair–yours is amazing! Seems like everything is coconut oil these days–I wonder how these products work on colored hair? I am high maintenance when it comes to my hair–just not ready to go gray yet.

Thanks, Wendy! I actually just chopped off a lot of it (although it’s still pretty long, haha). I’ve never colored my hair, so I unfortunately can’t speak for how it works with colored hair! :[
gorgeous hair! These sound like great products

Your hair is gorgeous! I had super long hair like that through my last year of college– I miss it :-) I bet this shampoo is great. Coconut oil is a miracle solution for so many things!

Thank you, Julie! I don’t know why I didn’t ever try using coconut oil on it before, haha. I had such a huge tub of it! :P
Mermaid hair :) hehe. I love how versatile coconut oil is!

Your hair looks amazing Farrah! I love coconut oil, I’ve never tried it on my hair before, but I definitely need to. The Monoi products look so good too, and I love how affordable they are!

Thanks, Harriet! :] I love that my budget can actually include em’ too! :D!
Your hair is amazing! I have to keep mine short because I’m too lazy to do anything to is and it gets really knotted when it’s long. I’ve been curious about using coconut oil for purposes other than cooking for a while. I might have to check this out once I run out of my current shampoo! Thanks for the honest review!

Aww, thank you! I wish I knew more hairstyles, haha. I only really know how to do…a ponytail and a bun (so sad, ahaha). But someday! Thanks for reading my review! If you get a chance to try it out, let me know what you think! :]
I can almost smell summer in the air, I love coconut products.
I didn’t realize your hair was so long. We both have hair about the same length, and you are probably like me if we are going to have long hair we want it to shine and look healthy.
I’ve never tried shine oil before. My hair is like way too healthy so I rarely do a deep conditioning. But sometimes after a race or long run my hair gets so dried out that I will put conditionier in it before I wash it just to let it naturally untangle. Maybe I should try a oil sometime instead next time I have to do that again!

I love coconut products too! <3!
I actually just cut my hair earlier this week, so my head feels about 2 pounds lighter now, ahaha. It's still long, but more manageable now in the sense that I'm not breaking hair ties left and right, hehe. :] Agreed on the shine and healthy-lookin'-ness though! I often forget to use deep conditioner, but I've been trying to work that into a sort of weekly thing lately!
Your hair looks amazing! Mine is very coarse and WHITE (forever!). I darken it to a blonde shade. I like the smell of coconut and am always looking to try and get some shine to it.
